We're going to have some 30s and 40s temps in Central Florida... I think I'm going to really limit my driving as much as possible.

I felt the front end get light and I took my foot off the pedal. It did not settle down. I very very very gently applied a cm or two of brake pedal. I was hoping to shift a few % points of weight more over the front. It got worse. All of a sudden it was 180* time. I think vdc or abs stepped in and popped the rotor hard and upset things terminally. I did not lose it instantly. I'd say I lost it over about 3-5 seconds. The stock Potenzas are just no good in the rain. I have experienced just how shitty they are and I'm sorry but your rhetoric will never trump staring out my windshield at highway speeds looking at an oncoming semi.

Luckiky, I slid off the embankment, completed the 360, and drove off with no damage. A true mulligan from the universe.

Wow.

LOL. I just got back from Atlanta with 20deg temps. It is not an issue. Just wait a little bit and get some heat in the tires before you get too crazy.

Anyone in GTA take their Z out today??

I can't imagine driving on the stock tires in snow. There wasn't any snow yet and when temps dipped below 45f (8c) it was like driving on hockey pucks.

Good post!

Summer compounds can crack in cold temps. Every major tire seller trumpets the same message - Dont drive them in near or freezing temps. So few heed the words and wonder what happend when they have issues.

Winter tires work because of the temps. Anything below 7C average and one should be on winters for effective traction, and braking most importantly. In Germany you can lose your insurance coverage without them if you cause an accident and you will be ticketed on the spot without them.

Tire rack has some great vids on winter vs summer and all seasons, and the results. IF you live where its cold get winters. If you cannot afford them then you cannot afford the car if you are unable to equip it properly. Park it until you can. Winters can be the literal difference of stopping a few feet short or not, and hitting something, soft or hard doesnt matter. Cars cause great damage even at low speeds.

Got about 30cm in the last 2 days in Montreal. Took the Z out for my first snow driving experience with it and I got to say I'm impressed on how well it handles itself on snow packed roads.

Shotta 12-12-2014 08:30 AM

I didn't drive mine yesterday after the snowstorm and good thing. The road surfaces were plowed so no issue there but on the on ramps and off ramps the plows left huge walls of snow that vehicles had to bust through to get on or off the highway. I was following another vehicle doing 80 km an hour on the on ramp in my awd Escape and the car in front of me hit the snow wall and proceeded to crash off in a huge ditch. I made it through no problem since I had lots of clearance and awd, If I was in the 370 I think I would have both destroyed the front bumper and ended up in the same ditch as the other guy.

You can just get the PC version of GTA4 and mod real life cars into the game. And GTA5 is coming to PC soon and im sure modders will be all over it as well.

I'm guessing GTA stands for Greater Toronto Area in this case. Just a guess as both posters were from Canada. :tiphat:

just rock-push the car forward holding the a-pillar. no paint to scratch...

and rock-push b-pillar for backwards. btw, place a chock forward/aft of the tire so that you dont push too hard and end up in the wall. lol

Drives better than the 350Z.

Man, that is butt cold. NO THANKS. I would be hibernating like a bear. See ya in the spring. :)

HEK 02-15-2015 10:20 PM

I didn't read any of the other replies but IMHO it drives better than most rear wheel drive cars as long as you have 4 snow tires :driving:

Brendan 02-16-2015 11:39 AM

Snow tires, the lsd, and traction control make it pretty capable in winter conditions. A lot of people who feel uncomfortable driving in snow think they have a car issue but often a dedicated set of winter tires is what they really need.

Dang it! I was going to call you out on the Celsius thing, but -40 is the breakover point where the two are the same. Yikes. That's frickin' cold.

BC416 02-17-2015 12:40 PM

I've come to the conclusion that the biggest issue with driving in the snow is ground clearance. I've had a set of snow tires on since November and I haven't had any traction problems. Anything more than 4 inches of snow and you risk turning the car into a snow plow. Especially if you have the sport package front spoiler.

mishuko 02-17-2015 12:46 PM

between mid-jan til now i've seen 3 seperate 370's (red, blue, white) and a handful of 350's... i just shake my head since my OCD'ness is like CLEAN THE FK'IN CAR but i know it's impractical.

brave souls... especially in the snow! lol

I took my car to the hand wash spot yesterday to get all the crap off it and it snowed again this morning. :icon14:

I'm not really OCD and it's my DD so it comes with the territory but Spring can't get here soon enough!

If your in Markham area you might see mine. I drive from Niagara to Markham, 240 KM's, about 3-4 times per week. It's impossible to keep clean, the powdery salt haze covers the car within I trip on the highway.

Same here, I only drive it once or twice a week, but it gets dirty quick. I just quit washing it a couple weeks ago. I'll start washing it again when the temps get closer to 0c, no point in doing it when it's this cold.

That was the coldest day I have ever lived through!!!!
The next day was -15°C and felt like spring was here:roflpuke2:

Is everyone still driving their Z?

I drive mine all year round anyway. lol

KngScottieV 12-18-2015 01:06 PM

I'll drive mine if it's been clear for a few days. I really like the way the car feels when it's breathing in all that cold air, but I do miss having traction.

But if it even looks like it may have the possibility of maybe becoming crappy... oh hell no. I have an old beater S10 that if someone hit or something happened to it, I'd shrug and be annoyed. If something happened to the Z I'd cry.

jeritol 12-18-2015 01:58 PM

I drive mine all winter long. Of course I live in Georgia where the winters aren't bad. The Stock tires were awful when it got cold. I have Advan Sport A/S
tires now for the winter and they work pretty well. Mine doesn't move if there is snow or ice.

birdman71 12-18-2015 01:59 PM

The best part about winter is watching it happen from Southern California  Get to drive my Z all year haha

LOL, If my Z got totalled at this point it would most likely be worth more then if I did sell it.
