Let's not go overboard here. Where is the humility? To think our Z's are better than the GTR and the 4s and then downplay and compare it to a Camry is ridiculous. Too funny.

I'd take a GTR over the 370 or Porsche 4S any day of the week!

Id rather have a GTR than Cayman/Boxster/Base Carrera. Id rather have ANY Carrera S, Turbo, GT over the GTR though.

Depends on the comparison, I was talking looks. Performance, well that would be a silly comparison.

For consideration and pot stirring-ness, I looked up exterior dimensions on a new Camry and the new Nismo GT-R and they are only a few inches apart on height, width and length.

I've never been a fan of Porsches or any other German brand. Some are real performers but the majority just don't appeal to me.

I like Porsche.
It seems like Porsche kind of makes junk though.
Their cars are nice for 2-3 years, then the engines randomly blow up and/or leak oil.

I think Porsches are incredible sportscars. They are the better car, objectively. The problem is just one of price:sport ratio. A lot of Porsche owners can't really afford to have fun in a Porsche (as in drive it like it's meant to be driven and track it regularly). If you've got the kind of bankroll to really afford abusing and tracking a Porsche, then yeah go for it. But if you can just barely afford to buy a nice Porsche but then you have to baby it and worry about it and never really push it.... yeah, you're gonna find yourself wishing you had a cheaper Z that you could afford to tear up the pavement with.

Great point.

I get hot and cold on Porsche. I guess I'm not sure that if I'm in to buy something in the GT-R price range that it's got the same pedigree or maybe the word is more like panache that a Porsche has. I think it's awesome that Nissan is able to produce such a car, and I know they've had them in Japan far longer than here. If we compare it to buying stocks, I would say that buying a GT-R is maybe small cap or something slightly riskier vs. buying a Porsche is more blue chip for the same money. In other words, if I spend X amount for one of those cars, which one is going to hold it's value? Maybe b/c I'm not in the market at that price range I feel like it would be too much to spend to be considered anything other than an investment. At the 370Z price range, that's not such a big deal. :ugh2:

Much shorter and eloquent way of making the point I took far to long to poorly explain.

He loves his car but I think this is real close to what he was thinking. He's bought 3 Porsche in 3 years so he could afford it but he can't seem to come to terms with how much he has to spend to get some track time with a car he has so much in already.

I think the big shock for him was that he didn't get as much extra performance as he thought for the extra $90K.

I'm a life long Porsche guy and Z guy.. 370z is a nice economy priced sports car but in no way comes close to what new Porsches offer. For most new Porsche owners money really isn't an issue. They are buying a luxury sports car with a true racing pedigree. Bottom line if money is less of an argument the 991 slams the cheaply made Z car. 991 is much nicer car to live with day in and day out. Better performing safer with far more advanced features too.

A modded 370z is exactly that a modded Z. The car doesn't do well with higher levels of stock power unless you invest tons of money into suspension and drive train and even then ride quality ECT will be terrible compared to a Porsche and Porsche will still crush z in low traction situations.

Just appreciate z for what it is. Cheap economical fun. Lots of compromises made in z to keep costs low. On surface the car appears very capable but we all know flaws that come out after living with 370z for awhile. From over heating to ice brakes, to lack of rear end traction. List goes on.

GTR on the other hand is a real competitor to Porsches in my opinion but then it's over 100k now. I think a base 991 may be an easier car to live with than a GTR however.

I wasn't comparing the cars because I would pick his car any day of the week, I just found the conversation yesterday amusing from a Porsche owner!

But I have a Camry, and it appears very similar! Actually it looks more like a Camaro.

Got_Z 12-26-2013 10:44 AM

The 370z is an awesome car... But I can't hate on Porsche. I LOVE Porsches....
