Any G37 converts?
Tried searching my question, but no luck finding anything like this.
Anybody out there former G37 owners? I always wanted a Z, but didn't have a second car to use for the winter so I needed something with AWD to at least be "usable" in the snow. Well, 2 years later, I'm sick of the 7AT in the G and I recently got myself a suitable winter car so I've been eyeing the 6MT Z a lot and have been talking numbers with dealers in my area. Have an appointment on Monday to finalize some stuff and put an order in most likely. Long story short: Former G37 owners, happy you made the jump to a Z? |
I used to own a G37S coupe. More than happy with my Z
|
Kenchan owns both. Ask him.

Kenchan owns G35C and 370Z both 6MT. :)

But as long as u can deal with limited visibily over your shoulder and less luxury depending on the options your looking at. You should enjoy it as long as your ready for a dedicated sports car. |

I had a 2009 G37c and now a 2012 370z. 8 out of 10 days, I'd rather have the G37. It was a quieter ride which made hands-free phone conversations nicer at highway speeds. The seat went back farther which was nice because I'm tall. Every dealership service experience was better. The stock stereo was better. I guess to summarize, all the creature comforts were nicer and most days I don't have the opportunity to push the performance aspects where the Z would inch out a win.

I have owned both. I had a 2008 G37 in auto. Went from that to a Lexus is250 to a BMW 135i and now have a Z. The G was and is a comfortable car, but the Z is a DRIVERS car. Love my Z. I dont know if I can get very specific but I LOVE my Z so much more than any other car I have ever owned. Make sure you buy 6mt.

What was the 135i like? I still have it in the back of my mind as an option if I e en trade my s197 in

Came from g37 coupe, I really do miss amenities in g37. Much more better quality than the z for sure.

I test drove a g37x coupe because I also considered needing awd for a daily in Connecticut. But I went with the Z because I was willing to sacrifice some luxuries and have a pure sports car. And I have winter tires :)

I didn't own a g37 coupe but did test drive a G37s 7at back to back with my 370z. The G and my Z are pretty equal from an amenities standpoint. The G had a more glitzy interior which is expected and I did like the sunroof. The ride was definately quieter as well. I ended up with the Z because it was a purpose built sports car. Hard to describe but when I sat in the Z it just felt right. The G was too watered down for me and I personally felt it was better in sedan form. I think the G coupe is a good xompromise for those who want a sporty coupe but cant have two cars.

Sounds like the 135i was better In every way...why get rid of it?

The turbos reliability scared me. Maintenance is way too high. And I missed a manual car. The 370z looks sexy as hell. Drives like a monster. Plus I love the synchro rev match feature on it.

What is maintenance cost like on them? I thought bmw covers everything the first like 50k miles?
And the twin turbos were only on the 2011 model no? Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk |
They still have turbos. And not sure. But had a few friends who had thousands of dollars worth of repairs at 85k-100k miles. So I sold it before my warranty went up.

Infiniti guy here...2008 G35S sedan with tons of mods, 2011 G37S coupe - mod'd (wrecked it), 2012 EX35 - tons of mods (see other posts) - and also have a 2012 FX, which I love.
My Z is a different car, and that's what I love about it. People talk about missing the luxuries - but I bought mine loaded. So with nav and such - the only thing i really miss is the power steering wheel. My roadster has ventilated seats - which my G's and EX did not - but my FX does have. Oh - and the ability to just put it into sport in auto and paddle shift or not - the Z when in sport you have to paddle shift versus just being in sport. About as much room in the roadster trunk as the G coupe - and the coupe Z has more. My G35S sedan actually had more room in the trunk than my EX. It's all a matter of preference. Engine the same, chassis the same, akebono's the same, tranny the same (altho diff tune), etc. You can't go wrong with any of them. |

This thread is like trying to compare a Toyota Camry to a Lexus IS350....

I converted a lesbian once, but never a G37.
Still a pretty good check-off in the dudeness column. Haven't killed a Grizzly Bear with a Swiss Army Knife yet, but I got the bushwacker down. |

I had a 2008 G37S with 5 AT. I grew to hate that car. I think the G35 is one of Nissan's most beautiful cars; the G37 one of their more awkward looking. While the interior was more luxurious, it WAS NOT the 335 competitor it was said to be. It was more of a luxury car. It was heavy and drove that way. I chose a 370Z because I wanted less-contented, more basic car. It's louder, rides rougher, and is less well-appointed. It's exactly what I wanted. No it's not an MGB or a TR7 from the 70's, but's it's got enough appointments to keep me interested without losing it's focus as a sports car. There is no denying the dealer experience was better with Infiniti, but Z owners do seem to get a better level of service, along with the GT-R guys, at the dealerships I go to. Again, this is my opinion. There is no wrong answer; it's your money, your personal taste. You just need to decide what is important to you. |
Thanks all for the input! Some good opinions on both sides. Seems like most of the split comes in the area of comfort. I plan on getting the touring package, so I won't be missing too many things from what I've got now it seems.
Though as some of you alluded to, the Z is a drivers car and that's exactly what I want right now. The G is nice, but it can feel a bit watered down at times. Plus I just really want that 6MT... |
