No Cabin Filter on the 2009 370Z?

Although I haven't taken apart the glove box, I don't think the 2009 370Z has ANY cabin filter at all! Can anyone confirm this? My dealership cannot find a part # for it either.

I'm wondering if a 2010 one would work, since I know this is one of the changes in next year's model.

WShade 08-21-2009 02:39 PM

I am changing the one in my G over the weekend and plan to verify fitment in my Z as well. If you don’t get a response before then I will let you know.

blackbird 08-21-2009 05:46 PM

2009 370Z has in-cabin microfilter. See page 4-22 owner's manual.

Are you on crack? This is completely irrelevant to the thread.

Nissan service manager told me all Nissan cars but the Z has cabin filter. The 2010 Z will start getting one.

I didn't want to say anything :bowrofl: Just in case he did not take his meds today.
Ok, back on topic.

That what I heard as well and that the manual was wrong. So, I am going to take a peek this weekend.

You know, I've had cars with in-cabin airfilters before. Even with the filters, I still smell the garbage dumps when I drive by without turning the A/C to recirculate and my wife always knows when I fart in the car. Doesn't seem to make a difference if you have one or not...

Ok, you have a point, but I would say it's really for the dust. When dust starts accumulating in the hard-to-reach areas of the vents, it looks nasty.

caneman88 08-21-2009 08:38 PM

I've taken apart the glove box and there is a door for the cabin filter but no filter should be the same size as one of the other Nissan's guess they were trying to save some weight :icon18:

Some cars have 'Charcoal' filter to remove the smell.

That's great!

I also had no idea about this dust issue. So who is going to be first to figure out which filter we get and then make a little DIY on how to install it?

Asheth 08-22-2009 09:05 AM

Well thats 1 down on the improvements for 2010. Next is the heated mirrors lol.

Its probably same that goes in the G.

Figured there was something going on with that post. No harm no foul :)

WShade 08-23-2009 04:59 PM

Just as "caneman88" said there is a receptacle for the filter but no filter. Also just as an FYI, part #27277-AR225 Charcoal Filter for the G will not fit in the Z ;) The one in the G is huge compared to the Z as I figured. Sorry but no DIY as I did not have the time, first day of school for the kiddo tomorrow. But, it is identical to the G:

....sooo built for but not equiped... do we have a part number to put an in-cabin filter

platyperz 08-24-2009 01:40 AM

I still can't get over the fact that it doesn't come with a filter already...

Asheth 08-24-2009 01:57 AM

Well we could just wait for the 2010 models to come out and pick it up then lol. Then we can say we all have 09/10 models. Just need those damn heated mirrors.

Ok back on topic. there has to be a model already out with the same size filter as we have. GT-R? Or maybe there is a aftermarket solution.

http://www.the370z.com/members/ashet...fitler-pic.jpg

As the service manual states you should be able to see your nissan dealer if your vehicle did not come equipped with one.

steven88 09-09-2009 12:43 AM

so it is confirmed that there is a bracket holder for a cabin filter...just nothing inside?

i'm thinking of picking up an 09 Z...late model before the 10's come in....hopefully get a big discount...and while i'm at it, pick up a cabin filter for 10 and toss it into my 09

Has anyone tried to see if a standard Nissan cabin filter fits?

dcrew1x 09-15-2009 08:08 PM

Wow. I wonder if it's available now as well. Easy installation too.

need4speed 09-16-2009 03:24 AM

Lol... this is y I never.buy 1st year.
Between the extensive quirks n usually lack of small but needed features,
Its a pain in the butt. Now 1st year buyers have to be in long service lines waiting for cabin filters n getting retrofits for heated mirrors.
N now with the led lighting and bluetooth streaming on the nav. I bet u will see people trying to get the updated brighter screens n tech.... lol
If ur a feature buff n hate quirks in cars? Buy 2nd or 3rd year.
3rd n 4th year get the most features for your dollar and run the most soind performance wise.
But 1st year is y warranties r there. 2 fix quirks! ;) so its not all bad first year.
Just more hassle.

FricFrac 09-16-2009 05:02 PM

Might not get listed as a part number until the 2010 models come out....

2009 370Z cabin filter

Lots of interesting posts on 2009 370Z cabin filter replacement. I was unaware that the 2009Z had a cabin filter until my dealer quoted me (what I thought was a ridicules amount, to replace the filter).
I immediately went on-line to the Nissan forum and found the tutorial on how to replace & even where a filter could be purchased for decent $ - Amazon for ~$15 bucks).
The tutorial was great & I had my glove box out and the filter door open in ~15 minutes. Interestingly, there was no filter in my Z (although there is clearly a door & slot for one???).
Anyway - the filter is now in (& the air smells much better)!
Thanks Again!

Your first post on the forum was to bump a 6 year old post?

This does not look good :rofl2:

But welcome either way :icon17:

2009 Cabin Filter

My 2009 Z touring did not come with a cabin filter, even though there is a location & access door in the car to accommodate a filter... Additionally, during a recent service visit to my Nissan dealer, they quoted installing a cabin filter (at a ridicules price). There are tutorials on this site telling you how to replace the filter (located behind the glove box - fairly easy to remove - look for the post).
You can buy the filter on Amazon for about $15 bucks...
I've installed & it makes a difference.
Hope this helps.

Aw now, be nice to the new guy. He apparently already has the mod bug so could be good. AND he SEARCHED first. I like that and want to encourage it.

From a NW type transplanted to the Mid-Atlantic, to another NW type. Welcome to the Forum. Go post up in the new onwer, new guy section and people will flog you further.

:hello:

How long you had your Z? Some very cool roads out there in the NW. I like the Columbia River Gorge road, both sides of the river. You should also check out the the Old Spiral Highway (aka Old Lewiston Grade) out there in Lewiston Idaho.

And if you are looking for another fun drive into Montana, Highway 12 over Lolo pass. True mountain driving.

Keep :driving:

I will have to look into. I didn't think any year model Z had these filters. Sometimes bringing a thread back from the dead are good for us recent new owners. I will inquire at the dealership on my next oil change.

huudoo 02-18-2015 05:09 PM

I have a 2009 ,
with the glove box out right now, waiting on the filter door = shaft
that's whats it is called on the parts page anyway, I broke mine getting it off
and it did NOT have a filter,
I went to autozone gave them a number on the dyi thread
fram 10157 I think it crossed to stp caf7799 its a charcoal filter for 15.99
I slid it in and it fits just a tad long but will work

link to the filter door

Made me laugh.:rofl2:

But that just shows the new guy is actually searching and reviewing posts before asking new questions.

So it is just 2009 Z that do not have filters?

kenchan 02-19-2015 04:19 PM

cf10157 is in my 09 right now.

i should swap it out this spring.

if anyone wants to try it on their ride, darkside goes face down. GL

Bumping in 2022 because I just went to install the cabin filter in my car. Not replace, but install. The car is 2009, 15k miles on the clock, fully original and yes - without a cabin filter. Why, I've got no idea. It didn't have any funky smells as the car was garaged since day one, but I'm happy to have installed a filter.
I bought the one I found on Amazon: Blue Print ADN12543 Carbon Cabin Filter, and I can confirm it fits the slot perfectly. Dimensions are as stated: Length: 217 mm, Width: 199.5 mm, Height: 20 mm

So filip00, after a few months, what is your verdict with your purchase?
I am about to purchase one.

Still happy with it. Only several days ago, I had to check it, as I was routing wires from the cabin to the engine bay for the oil pressure gauge, and have rechecked filter, looks brand new and solid. Would definitely recommend.

The only thing to note though, as someone mentioned - the compartment door has these notches on the bottom side, so that it will push against any filter you put in the compartment, but if you're careful, you can close the door under the filter, so that it's not squeezed and sits just as it's supposed to. When you go change it, you'll see what I mean.
