Add an amp to the base radio?

I don't want to add too nice of an aftermarket stereo since my car will be sitting outside at the airport, etc about 15 days a month and don't want it broken into. Would it do any good to get a nice amp added to the base radio and some new speakers, or do you think it just too low-fi to make it sound much better?

I had stock stereo in my car and added an amp and sub. it was perfect :)

I'm thinking no alternator noise since it is the sub right. Can't get away with this for your mids and highs.

I'm looking to upgrade the Bose system too. To answer your question, yes, you can add an amp & speakers and/or new sub to get much better sound.

However, there are a few things you'll need to consider as it's not as easy as just swapping out the speakers & stock amp(s)

I recommend you read this

I am talking about the BASE not BOSE radio.
