Appearance recommendation

Say you have a magnetic black base (no spoiler) 370z, 2110, and you have $1000, what appearance mod would you suggest? Spoiler? Wheels are probably more expensive as is any paint job. Recommendations?

Springs & spacers and plastidip if you're on a budget. And of course, wash your car every other day and wax it once a month since you picked up the hardest color to keep clean.

kenchan 11-04-2013 06:54 PM

swifts, spacers, alignment. check out red_zed's old red base.

kenchan 11-04-2013 06:55 PM

oh, and dont forget the washers. :ugh:

Zbrah 11-04-2013 06:57 PM

It's a Z, not a honduh :shakes head:

While he's heading to HD for the washers, stop by autozone for their daily specials on decals and stick-on vents.

Edit: plastidip falls into this category of modding too but if you use it "tastefully" IMO it can pass for being a legit mod.

Aero jacket duckbill spoiler or if u want the factory type spoiler they have them all day painted on eBay . Plastic dip black those silver handles. Tint? White led style parking lights, license lights. Springs maybe swift is cheap and works but IMO need rims on a dropped car especially those 18s

What gage heck are you talking about??

Spacers, washers, springs, decals??? I have no idea what you are talking about! What are spacers and how do they help appearance, same thing with "washers" and "springs". Are "springs" the hub cap like things that fit on wheels?

What is "plastidip"?

Need help guys, I am new to this, never did any sort of modding to any of my cars in 40 years.

Shadezz 11-05-2013 03:32 AM

Find some Used factory 19 Rays via the for sale forum....
Spacers are just that...they allow your wheels to sit out a bit more flush with the fenders...

Use the search function to read up on what others are doing...also check out the members Journals or picture threads!!!

Wonka2581 11-05-2013 03:54 AM

I wouldnt worry about look's untill performance is done:stirthepot:

Not everyone is into racing and, for me, the performance is just fine as I primarily drive to work and weekend drives. For most of us, adding performance mods is like a weekend golfer buying the most expensive golf clubs. A sheer waste of money. It's not going to make you a competitor of Tiger Woods.

Let us be honest, mods are primarily to impress someone or give bragging rights. We put mods on because it is important to have status, stand out, to our peer group. If our peer group is into power, it's performance mods and if our peer group is not, we go by appearance.

I would suspect that only a few actually get to use the added performance on any consistent basis.

You've made it pretty clear that you haven't done an ounce of research yourself yet. I'll help a bit, but my suggestion is you use the search function before you start asking really stupid questions.

Spacers - for wheels, helps push the face of the rim out to better line up with the edge of the fenders

Springs - for suspension, lowering springs help fill the gap between the top of the tire and the fenders

Plasti-dip - spray paint like product that can be removed easier than regular spray paint, can easily be overdone and tasteless

Washers - cheapest exhaust mod ever, this one is listed as a joke

Decals - yet another joke (excluding the370z.com forum decals which are awesome and give 50 whp)

Washers :(

But yes. I can attest to the 50 horses gained from the 370z.com decal. :vuvuzela:

Don't listen to the washers mod. Just a joke as JARblue said

It's likely that someone will come in and defend the "washer mod". Ignore them. Not just on the subject of the "washer mod", ignore anything they ever have to say.

im not really into modding since my mods are all photoshopped, but the purpose of my Z is to enjoy it. if adding power and knowing having added power brings enjoyment, then i think that's a good thing to have whether you use it or not.

same as making your car look nice. knowning ure driving a nice looking car is a good feeling. :D

I am new to this so here are some stupid follow up questions. Where can you go to buy and get spacers installed? Same thing with Springs? How much does Plasti-dip cost, where can it be bought, where can I see an example of a good and a bad use off it. How would you use it?

Chuck33079 11-05-2013 06:35 PM

There's a bunch of vendors here selling springs and spacers. Look for recommendations for local shops in your local subforum. There's a long plastidip thread in the exterior subforum.

At this point, I think you need to ask your mom.:ugh2:

Or, maybe JARblue can be the surrogate mom and he will look in the phone book or surf the net on your behalf and give you all the info you'll need to make a decision. Oh wait, ask him to make the decision for you. That would be even easier now wouldn't it?

Or, you can just search the forum. The info you seek is not difficult to find.

This is what we were trying to avoid

Search is your friend :tiphat:

The Z looks damn good by default.

Ideas, though?
- tint
- clear bra (if you want to protect the appearance of the front)
- washing/detailing products
- spoiler! (had to add this in as I rechecked that your Z is base)
- swap out the rear license plate bulbs for something whiter/bluer
- swap out the interior dome lights for something whiter/bluer

Honestly, this should exhaust your $1000.

- think about platidip on the non-black pieces; check out pics in the albums section; this is cheap and hard to irreversibly screw up.
- exhaust upgrade if you consider the sound of your car to be part of its appearance.
- lower with swifts springs (unless you plan to drive in the winter, in which case maybe ask if that is a good idea to further reduce your body and wheelwell clearance in winter snow)

- spacers only if you want the performance gain or hang out around other car enthusiats. Otherwise, no one else will appreciate this change.

Masterbeatty 11-06-2013 12:08 PM

What I did was plasti dipped the fang area to 1) protect it alittle from rocks and **** 2) contrast between shinny black and a matte black. IMO...IMO i love it! i also put gloss black vinyl over the useless windows on the side. Gives the car a sleeker look. Blackout rear turn signals, and blue bat eyelids for the front. All that was maybe $100. i also re-did my interior with black and orange CF/ kevlar to match the interior gauge lights. Materials cost $149 and i did the work my self, ( pain in the a$$ but i love it). rear fog light $39 plus wires and stuff $20.

If you do little things that are cheap yet tasteful a $1000 can go along way. I also have an CBE and gen III but those together are way over your prospective budget. take a look at some of the other Z's cars and pick and choose what you would like to do and make it your own creation.

I have the base model...
I would recommend:
20/25mm Spacers - $150
Plastidip Wheels - $15
Aftermarket Spoiler - $140 shipped (painted mag black)
Plastidip Blacked Out Emblems - $2.50
Plastidip Blacked Out Handles - $2.50 (Check out my DIY)
Evo R Side blades - $350 or (Check out my DIY)
Window Tint - $100-150
Total: $900-1000
Bigger Tires 275 rears & 245 up front (Optional) - $600

Chuck33079 11-06-2013 12:32 PM

If it were my $1k, the first thing I would do is clear bra and tint. That would be pretty much all of the $1k and the car won't look any different, but it keeps the car looking good.

dP3NGU1N 11-06-2013 01:12 PM

I think the guy needs to learn how to shop first before we tell him what to buy. Clearly he's new to buying things online....

Everyone's forgetting that he's going to purchase all these items and, from the sound of it, he's not going to know what to do with ANY of them.

I'm going with AeroJacket Type I/II
