Finally - Got my fog lamp installed

Sorry no pictures. But finally got my Fog lamp installed and working as I had initially planned.

Ordered lamp from a NISSAN dealer in Canada and had it shipped.

Due to a real lack of usable fog in this neck of the woods, having a functioning fog lamp only, would have been a place to collect dust. So instead I have it wired, with a relay, directly in with the brake lights.

It's function is set-up as follows:

When the brake is depressed the fog lamp will blinks 6 times then holds a solid light for 3 seconds and then blink 3 times and holds for 3 and so on and so on until the brake pedal is released and then the process starts over again.

Now it a usable, safety oriented, very functional tool.

Thanks to a number of folks on this forum for their suggestions and assistance as I was getting this process to work as I imagined.

Cheers,
:tiphat:

what kind of expertise is required for the install? I know nothing about wiring, but I wanna do all my own work on her.

Is it legal? The blinking part that is.

platyperz 08-20-2009 12:52 AM

Sounds very cool. Do you think you could upload a video, the pattern that you are using is very interesting and it would be nice to see it in action.

Also - congrats on taking down ManU at Turf Moor. I almost fell out of my chair during the goal, it was amazing and very nice to win your 1st game at home vs a quality opponent.

:icon18: Yes, video please :tiphat:

Cheers.....It was brilliant game. It was a nail bitter near the end, but a sigh of relief at the whistle. Everton this weekend

I will try and get a video going on the weekend and will pass it along.

in Texas a blinking red light light in the rear with no more than 8 blinks in a row is legal. Hence the 6 blinks and the stall pattern.

I know the brake light blinker kits are popular with motorcycles. Why would it be illegal on a car? How would they know you aren't pumping your brakes with your foot?

I'm a new 370Z owner (had it about 2 months) and am interested in installing the fog lamp with the module from flashingbrakelights.com . Based on your description of the way yours functions it appears that you may have used their module. Can you describe how you wired yours? A diagram would help but pictures would be better if you have them.
Thanks

Here's a daytime and nighttime picture of mine. Mine is wired up to the license plate light so it doesn't do anything special....just a solid light on whenever the parking or headlights are on:

nice, did you have to remove the bumper to wire it?

Actually, I had a shop do it for me since I had a few things I needed them to do for me. I don't believe they did because they had that light installed extremely fast from what I remember and they didn't mention to me that they had to remove any part of the bumper. I believe if you wire it up to work with the brake you will need to remove one of the tail lights? Not 100% sure on that but I believe I saw that in the DIY section under rear fog light install.

I had a Car Stereo shop install this set-up, as they were best familiar with the wiring processes.

I do know they set it up to have a fuse break prior to clamping onto the brake line to insure if anything went wrong it would shut down at the fuse level and not effect the rest of the vehicle.

I took the DIY of the fog lamp install from SIMOTA1 to this shop.

I ordered the relay from Flashing Brake Light .com and went to their motorcycle site, there is a link from the main page. cost was $29.00 for the relay.

So here we go I am very happy.

If you want more specifics of the install contact this shop called " AudioMaster " @ 512-326-9077....speak with the owner. They did a fantastic job, I truly appreciated the work they did.

The green wire is the brake light....

Good luck

is there anyway to make it less bright?

3SeventyZ 08-28-2009 05:47 PM

Still unsure about this mod.. hmmm...

You could try installing a resistor in series to lower the light output.

theART 08-29-2009 01:33 AM

U should wire it up so it lights on @ 7500RPM!

As regular fog light that's on all the time it looks strange, fog lights should be on the front of the car

Fog lights are as important up front as they are in the rear.

Valentino 08-29-2009 11:53 PM

how is it originally hocked up (OEM)?

Do they have there own switch or button somewhere?

Valentino 08-30-2009 08:15 AM

^ i guess we need a Japanese or a EURO Service manual.

Snakes709 08-30-2009 02:53 PM

im so glad i live in canada and my car already have this light. I told the dealership that the american 370z cars arent getting the light and they looked at me as if i had 2 heads.

jpit 08-30-2009 03:03 PM

Snakes709,

The next time you are at the dealer would you see if the actual fog light switch is available. Many people are using a heated seat switch instead because it is not available here. Does your fog light switch go in between the heated seat switches? Thanks.

:icon17: That bad, huh? I wish mine had it already installed, too.....I know I had mine hooked up the quick and easy way.....not the right way, I'm sure.

Snakes709 08-30-2009 04:32 PM

i never botherd to look where it was until today...never got out of the car to see if its on but im assuming it comes on when i flick the fog lights on that is on the same control lever on the wheel as DRL/Parking Lights, Hi and Low beam lights. But yea ill ask the dealership if u can buy it.
