What do you guys think about the 4 cyl turbo option on a "390Z"

I would never buy a Z with a 4 banger. Just not what i think a Z is.

Might be a good idea for a turbo 4 cyl. if the Z lost 500-600lbs.

Yeah. Inifiniti has started the same thing. Kind of annoying. I always like being able to tell the engine size by the number on the rear.

It's about time Nissan stops associating the model designation with the engine displacement. Just call it Nissan Z and call it a day. That way, people won't automatically perceive a reduction in engine displacement as a complete downgrade.

Unfortunately, I probably still would.

It's very possible that Nissan USA and Europe may just start calling it the Fairlady as it is dubbed in Japan. I hear more and more people calling it that here anyway.

If Nissan decides to go from a V6 to a 4 banger, I dont know if I'd buy another one. I rather just make the C7 my next car...

kenchan 10-28-2013 12:47 PM

im not very sure i like how the fairlady name rings with american accent. :ugh:

j-accent: feh ah ready

vs

usa-accent: fairlady :supergay:

They should just put fairlady z emblem as stock!

I'd prefer to see a turbo charged 6 cyl 390Z with an addition to the family that was a 240sx. Nissan needs the Sylvia in it's lineup especially with how popular the BRZ and FRS are IMO.

Don't bet on that....Infiniti just changed their entire model naming strategy and abandoned the link between the model number and the engine displacement. It's safe to say that this could happen to the Z as well.

yah, and it's probably not going to be called a "390" either...?

They kept the 300z designation through some serious changes..........

that's because the name was based on engine displacement

Agreed - If they did this to make something closer to the FRS/BRZ. 4 banger, light, nimble, and cheaper.

Now if they did that I would also expect them to offer a turbo 6 as an option. There is enough of a gap between the Z and the GTR that there could be another model/upgrade. but that is just the car enthusiast in me being wishful.

They will probably invest more time into a Nismo version of the Leaf.

nissan already has plans to release a concept of a frs/brz competitor which is suppose to be a class under the Z next month. so i was hoping it would be a silvia and 4 seats?

maybe they will reuse the Altima coupe plateform but define it more obviously between it and the Z...

hopefully they will...
