something stuck under my Z

1 Attachment(s)
So this morning while driving to school, I went over what seemed like a rope plastic bag or something close to that. I did not react quick enough to maneuver around it, so I drove over it. Couple seconds later, I hear like some clicking sounds coming from the rear of the car. I was like..**** oh great. I was right next to the parking lot at school, so I just carried on slowly and parked.

When class was over, I decided I was going to take the Z to the nearest dealership..which was about 12 miles away. However, the clicking noise continued as I began to drive. It was like a repeating clunk/click noise coming from the rear. At this point, I had already taken a quick look and verified that something was indeed stuck behind my Z. ( I didn't know what it was stuck to, I lack basic knowledge of car parts LOL).

The noise continued as I was exiting the school parking lot. I was moving at around 20 MPH tops, as the noise would get louder if I tried to go any faster. I drove about half a mile..probably less where I pulled over to the side of the street because I was scared that I would damage the car or something due to the noise it was producing. Lucky for me..there was a shop right next to the street which I had pulled over. I decided **** it, I will just stop here and see if they can help me out.

I pull in with the rear still producing noise, and I park. I talked the guy real quick, told him I had something stuck in the rear. He told me to pull my car up and that they were going to lift it and check it out real quick. When they lift my car, there was like this rope thing stuck on what he told me was the driving shaft...IT was a lot of rope ( Look at pic for reference) I was like O.o wtf!!!!!

The two mechanics started to cut it off slowly for about 5 minutes before they took all of it out. I guess it was wrapped around that, + the rear diff? that's what he said..
He also said if I kept driving a bit more, I would have been screwed.
I drove away, and everything seems fine now..
Today was a really bad morning

Anyone else experience something similar?

jaedub 10-21-2013 03:48 PM

You're lucky it was only a rope. One time, I had a hooker stuck under my car

kenchan 10-21-2013 03:51 PM

lol... halloween decoration maybe?

good to hear you got it taken care.

Nothing worse than a hooker getting stuck wrapped around your driveshaft :shakes head:

Z-Girl 12 10-21-2013 05:09 PM

glad it wasn't anything worse.

ZeroZeta 10-21-2013 05:16 PM

2xtreme1 - Sorry to hear that happened. I hope the shop you took it to also gave you a fair price for the labor.

TerribleONE 10-21-2013 05:20 PM

Crazy man! Must have hit it in that perfect (not so perfect) spot. Glad you stopped when you did

Haboob 10-21-2013 05:55 PM

I thought it was going to be a body of some animal or something gruesome.

Still, that sucks. I fear hitting a plastic back and it sticking to the front of my grille. :eekdance:

When I was passing through NM on my way from TX to CA I saw a piece of a newspaper sheet, and I had a hunch that I nailed it square and it was in front of the radiator. I was lazy so I didn't check immediately, but I knew to just look at my oil temps. After it raised about 20 degrees, I got out and saw that in fact the newspaper was blocking it... :shakes head:

I one time ran over a dead boar. It was dark and about 5:30 in the morning on a Sunday. I was heading out for a run and was passing what appeared to be a drunk driver. I gun it get in front of him and I guess he didn't like it so he starts tailing me. I gun it to get a way when i notice a huge pile of something in the road. One lane either way and oncoming traffic...If i hit the brakes i risk the drunk fool slamming into me, if i swerve i might hit the car coming head on. One thing to do over the pile of what looked like horse hockey. Well it gave me a little lift when i went over and i heard a couple of pings underneath. I get to my location and when i get out it smells of manure. Well when i drove back after my run I see an area about 20 to 30 ft. long covering the entire lane with blood and boar guts everywhere. It was a small one judging by the skull. Probably about 200 lbs or so. Quite a unique experience cramming a 200lb boar under a Z. Lucky for me there was no damage done and a good pressure washing to the under carriage was all it needed.

I just hit a dog (looked to be a black lab) on the freeway doing 80 on Saturday. Thankfully I had just looked over to see if there was anyone next to me in the HOV lane and there wasn't, so I swerved, but still hit it with what looks to be the outside of my tires... huge thud. :eekdance:

Car in front of me hit it and threw it into the air. I thought it was a tire tread at first with how it flailed about.

Aww man that sucks. Makes me mad when people can't control their animals or don't take care of them.:shakes head:

Is that a stock exhaust I see?

jlo370z 10-21-2013 09:05 PM

I was forced to run over a dead animal (coyote i believe) my car is lowered, it didn't go well. got him wedge up in between a cross member and the exhaust, it cooked half of him, the other half was raw. could not get him out with a pressure washer, actually had to get a metal rake and pull his bones from the cross member. grosses thing Ive ever dealt with.

And EWWWWWWW...

On my drive TO Texass, in the Lexus, I ran over a dead deer and it went right in the middle of the car. It was right after a crest so I had no time to react. Heard it scrape the whole car. And no damage at all, lol. Toyotas, they fix themselves

Yeah, no. I would take it somewhere and have someone else deal with that.

No thanks. :barf:

2xtreme1 10-21-2013 09:30 PM

Lol, yes..stock exhaust.
Andrew, I almost wanted to call you because I thought the Z was going to brake Lol. I figured you would know what it was stuck on.
I don't think there was any long term damage. Anyone know if it can happen? Car seems fine idk ..

I'd maybe check alignment to see if anything got bent? Maybe check the CV boots?

I was third in a group of cars on I-10 coming back from Nismo Fiesta in San Antonio this past April when a wild boar ran out onto the road. Car #1, a Mustang, hit it dead center in the grille, through it up in the air where it was hit by car #2, an F150. Major damage to the Mustang.

After the F150 was done with it, what was left flew out from under the truck and I had nowhere to go but right over the carcass. I could hear the individual pieces bouncing off the under carriage.

When I got home, there was a fully cooked pork dinner under the car! YICK! It took about an hour of hosing at a local car wash and pulling out entrails to get that mess cleaned up. :ugh2:

:tiphat: nope-no damage. I was afraid it it had damaged the A pillar, it hit really hard, but it slid up and over...and it was a HUGE bird-and stinky. ewwwww. couldn't avoid it. this is actually the 2nd time I have had one puke on my windshield (in the Z), the first one was luckier and it veered away and up.

Buzzards are stinky mainly because they eat dead and decomposing things! I've never smelled one but I can imagine that it's not pleasant!

In the future, if you run over something and your car is making funny noises. Stop the car and just look under it. If there's something that looks foreign like a bunch of rope, you should remove it before driving the car anywhere.

Yeah..I stopped right away and looked under ..but I was unable to reach, it was wrapped around really good, the guys used sciccors and it took two of them to take it off. I didn't drive more than like half a mile before I got it taken care of.

Yeah, I will probably have it checked out on my test oil change.

And a good prank in this thread. Have a buddy you want to mess with (and their car / truck isn't as low as the Z)? Take an 18" black zip tie & cinch it around the drive shaft somewhere the end will contact something else. Makes a horrible racket.
