Fuel Weirdness....... wtf

2 Attachment(s)
So...I'm sitting at 38 miles left, almost near E......I have a bad habit of doing this.

I go to kangaroos, and fill up.
I notice though, the price, and gallon gauge on the gas pump is crawling..............not moving anywhere.....hardly moving up. So I pull the fuel pump slightly out, while im holding on the trigger, and fuel is gushing out, so I know it's working.............

I go to start my car, and the miles left is still sitting at 38 miles, but the tank is nearly full as indicated by the fuel gauge in the second image (circle indicators).... However, 15 minutes later after driving, the dot indictator says its still like 95% full, but the mile'age left was SLOWLY incrementing up, from 38 miles left, to 41...then to 50....etc....

anyone have an idea wtf is going on? First pic is the gauge showing me how much it cost to nearly fill my tank up.....i verified after starting my car, and saw the dots nearly all the way across.....
second pic is checking after 10 minutes of driving..dots are full, but the # isn't showing like 380 miles left or whatever, but instead acting like its near empty(with 40+ miles left on range)

Dude, you need to use that pump all the time! (Almost) free gas!!!

I think my bigger question beyond the glitched pricing.......is why is it showing as 45 mile range, when it should be like 350+ when the dots are nearly FULL?

Is there no correlation or connection to the pricing being off, and a near full tank showing a near empty mileage-range thats left?

I find it highly odd that both are are acting weird, when my mileage range has been 100% accurate in the past........there has to be a connection?

I would make an appointment to have it looked at and show them the pics for proof.

did you smash on it before you got gas? that gauge measures average MPG from the last x amount of miles and calculates the distance. therefore, if you were say...smashing it and getting 3-4MPG (which i dont think is possible) full tank might say you have 100 miles left

Cause you got dat Kangaroo gas. ;)

That's weird. Which Kangaroo did you go to? (I'm local to HSV as well.)

Did your range stay at 45 miles after you got out on the road? Hopefully it was only gasoline and not something else that got into your tank.

dirty contacts? should keep your tank at least half full, ideally near full as often as possible. since i only drive my Z on the weekends, i try to keep the tank filled as often as possible.

If you have a habit of driving on low gas baby that car around turns or you will get stranded.

LOL where is this gas station in HSV? I am going there now with several 55 gal drums to load up.

Is that how it works? This helps. I have a new z was down to 2 dots. Gauge said I had 30 miles left. I was cruising. It started increasing my miles left. I gassed it around a corner and the miles left went to all dashes and stayed there.

I drive 2 miles and it only took 17 gallons.

Odd

Hey, I get between 7 to 8 mpg doing track days. :icon14:

tha_alabama 10-20-2013 09:25 AM

I'm still at a disconnect.....
I have never had issues with the fuel gauge before, it has always reflected accurate information.

So randomly, on a day when I let it go low(down to 2 dots, 38mile range left), I go fill up.
When the gas was gushing in, the counter on the pump as I have stated went up very slow.....

Now after all of that(essentially free gas), I have nearly full dots, but the range counter increments slowly...it took about 1.5 hours to hit 341 mile range..that has never happened before.

Does anyone put any consideration/weight into the connection between a gas pump that for whatever reason, gave me 98% off, and the gas-range not resetting after I filled up(but only after 1.5 hours)?

It's almost as if something in my tank caused the gas pump to screw up, leading me to think that something can be exploited to trick gas pumps into having this happen? or maybe not. I'm not asking for the purposes of ripping gas stations off, but am curious about the two seemingly happening together........

Something inside the tank that measures when the tank is full, somehow interfered with the gas pump? or vice versa....the two seem oddly connected together....

Whenever I fill up the tank, I reset the trip odometer (for both MPG and time) so I've never had this happen to me. It seems that the MPG meter gets confused when it is not reset and it took 1-1/2 hours for yours to figure it out.
