Is there an oil cooling problem with the 370Z?

I'm looking to buy a Z from another private seller. He added the Tein suspension added and also an oil cooler. I don't really care for the suspension upgrade, but I was wondering why he added the oil cooler. He told me it was recommended by Nissan to keep the oil temp down cuz it has the same problem as the G35? I've never heard of this before when I had a G35

On the streets, the car is fine, on a track you will want the oil cooler.
Have had mine in Houston since May and zero problems on the road (have not been on a track).

Put your flame suit on for not searching, this has been covered 897634634 times.

But dreamer hit it on the head, no issues for regular use. Possible issues for extreme track use.

This topic has been discussed many times and quite a few threads about it can be found via the search button.

Yes, there is an oil temperature issue with the 370Z. Nissan's lack of factory oil cooling has made a lot of 370Z owners install an aftermarket oil cooler kit to keep the temps down under hard driving.

And welcome!

I saw the sticky right after I clicked BACK

Recommended by Nissan - no...

In fact, Nissan says they'll consider an oil cooler being installed as a non-warrantee "abuse" indicator. Remove it before you take it in for any warranty issues ;)

The oil cooler deally is just people concerned over oil temps - which is only a problem if you track (race) the car.

The main issue people had was the test cars that were given to reviewers had an oil cooler installed by Nissan - but production cars didn't get one.

Then Nissan says that it doesn't need a cooler and that installing one would potentiall void the warranty as the car was being "abused" by putting it on the track/competition, which is the only circumstances that the car would need a cooler.

But, rumor has it Nissan is coming out with a cooler kit for the Z...so go fig...

Nissan has specifically said it is NOT a warranty killer (unless it causes the problem). You cannot assume a car is being tracked just because it has a cooler on it. Re-read the response AK got from Nissan:

Aggressive driving of the 370Z on a race track at sustained high engine speeds can cause increases in oil temperature and may activate this engine protection system. To avoid activation of this engine protection system and these reduced peak engine speeds, Nissan recommends an oil cooler be fitted to the 370Z before driving it on a race track. A Nissan Motorsports accessory oil cooler kit is available for customer purchase through authorized Nissan dealerships for race track use. The part number is 21300-SS370.

An oil cooler is not necessary for normal operation of the vehicle on public roads. The addition of an oil cooler would have raised the price of the car and potentially moved it out of the reach of some customers. Value has been a core principle of the Z car since the original 240Z and we choose to uphold this core principle by not adding additional costs that are unnecessary for normal use. For those individuals who choose to drive their vehicle on a race track, the oil cooler is available as an aftersales item.

The oil cooler is a Nissan Motorsports item and as such is sold without warranty, express or implied, unless expressly prohibited by law in which case the warranty provided is the minimum required by law. The installation of the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler does not, by itself, “void” the vehicle warranty. However any damage caused by the installation or use of this part is expressly excluded under the terms of the Nissan New Vehicle Limited warranty.

There's really nothing much to worry about for daily driving.
The oil temperature issues only appear if you track the car.
Till then you won't really need to worry about it like I've said already.
If you're planning to track then go grab a aftermarket oil cooler.
