Spam on the forum or Spam to your PM account?

All we users can do is report SPAM when we see it. Click on the red triangle with the exclamation point at the bottom ot the author's info in the left column of a post. Type in "SPAM" and send. Leave a short comment (just "reported" is enough, vent if you want to) so others will know the post has already been reported.

A SPAM acct only needs to be reported once - no need to report every SPAM post by that member.

Happy hunting. :driving:

you guys might want to change options to only receive PM from your contact list.

Holy Toledo. What is Happening? Why write this stuff anyway?

fzgood 09-23-2013 01:14 PM

Is there a way to "mute" threads from your view once logged in? I suspect admins/mods are probably too busy to delete spam as quickly as they appear.

My itchy trigger finger makes me want to click on un-read posts...

i donno, but i just spent like 5min bumping the first 2 pages of REAL ads just now. :D

maybe you guys too can help out other members. just keep bumping real threads up.

kenchan 09-23-2013 01:22 PM

oh, and dont REPLY 'reported' to the spam cause then it bumps the crap threads up.

just report it and leave it alone. and bump the real threads/ads.

cooltoy 09-23-2013 01:23 PM

If you don't let others know the post has been reported, the same post will get reported over and over again. That's more crap the mods have to wade through.

hmmmmm Good point. My main concern is that Staff has requested that posts be reported only once and the comment lets others know that you've already reported it. I'm willing to do it with or without the "reported" comment.

kenchan 09-23-2013 01:28 PM

yah, if it's only a few spam threads that might be okay, but when you have a whole page of spam, then all the real threads get pushed down...

Zbrah 09-23-2013 01:39 PM

So what is the proper procedure? Do we go to town and report ALL spam posts popping up, or just report one post per each spammer and let the Mods hunt down their other posts?

Kenchan makes a great point, I've been bumping up the spam posts all morning by reporting them, now I feel like I have become the spammer myself

AK told me to just report one post per spammer account, and the mods could erase all of that account's posts raather than reporting every post by a spammer.

Zbrah 09-23-2013 01:46 PM

Ok cool, i'll just do that.

i think that's part of their plan... they are sneaky for sure. :eekdance:

kittens 09-23-2013 02:02 PM

I think they are automatic robots. We had tons of these on another forum I was a moderator of. I was able to get rid of the threads pretty fast but is there a way to ip ban them?

Zbrah 09-23-2013 02:06 PM

Those Bastards! Looks like another wave is coming in...

Xplicit97 09-23-2013 02:23 PM

Yea it was the for sale section that prompted this thread.. I knew about the other thread, but I just wanted to bring new attention to it. Sorry if I was out of line doing so. This is getting out of hand though

I was thinking that. So I reported 1 post, and wrote "reported" on all their subsequent threads as well

But yeah, I guess it still bumps their threads...

Exactly. I've been hoping one of the Admins/Mods would offer some guidance.

Edit: Until we hear something official, I suggest everyone quit making "reported" posts and let's see what happens. It would be nice if the system would display a "flagged" icon so ppl could avoid reported something more than once.

kenchan 09-23-2013 02:39 PM

maybe admins can make a sorting script or something so that all the reports for the same subject line will be filtered to one report. all the subsequent reports for the same subject line will be a report count or something.

Mt Tam I am 09-23-2013 02:41 PM

I will let you gents deal with this and I will stay off these IBTL threads.

I had no idea this wave of stupidity existed. Why on earth would someone do this and for what purpose? Do folks get paid for this behavior?

dAvenue 09-23-2013 02:42 PM

I posted this in Pint's Complaining Corner, but wanted to dump it here for good measure as the title seems more appropriate to its content.

Someone said this earlier, but implementing Captcha will take care of it. I'm not sure how big the LOE is for the forum to do, though. Captcha is a common API that should be fairly straight-forward to implement if they provide the proper documentation. I don't know if it's open source or comes with a price. So it's up to AK if he's willing to do it.

IMO if it costs money, I'm sure a proprietary solution can be developed and used instead of Captcha.
