Did no one else pay for the nissan tire insurance thing?? Or is it a South Florida mainly insurance. I paid a little extra on the car and have a nissan tire insurance, meaning if i get a nail or the tire pops for no reason it gets replaced with a new one by nissan.

Works great, seeing as here in south Florida there are gnomes who go out at night and throw nails and screws all over the streets.

I recently had a nail go through one of my front tires. About 2" from the outer sidewall on the right side. I find that if you pop a little extra to get it done right, you won't have problems with it going out of balance. I actually took mine to our BMW dealer here in Milwaukee and asked if they had a Road Force balancer. That's sooo important after you get this done. Make sure it's a great balancer and they put in a patch vs. a plug.

It's completely understood that most can't do a thing about a sidewall puncture, but if you can get something done about it, do it the right way. This way, there will be no flat-spots, and the dreaded shake in the wheel. I'm thinking with such a sensative steering rack, you could feel if you'd have an ant stuck on your wheel. Okay, JK on that one, but you know what I mean. Oh, it cost me $56 to have this done the right way. No shakes, leaks, or anything, and the Bimmer shop actually thought my car was really cool! They were excited to work on it. This all is MHO.

These Potenzas just love nails huh? Either that, or we have the worst luck ever. Mine happened on my rear driver side. :(

Close enough eh?

I'd have them show it to me...or let me walk with the tire and find someone who'll patch it, if it's not truely in the sidewall.

Yes I took it out and it worked out fine for me a few weeks back when I had 2 nails in my right rear Potenza - both nails on opposite sides, right at the edge of the tire, was told by the dealer it couldn't be repaired, but got a new one installed and didn't cost me a thing

according to nitto's site, the nt-05 doesn't come in 285/35/19. are you sure it was that size? i'd been planning on the 275/35/19, which discount tire direct sells for 267/each. how the heck did you get a tire in a size they don't list, and for a price that low? introduce me to your tire guy!!! :D

edit: dammit, you don't have the sport pkg, so you were talking 18's. nevermind!! lol

They are 18's, and I bought them from a guy who had them on his G for a week, but didnt like the road noise, lucky me! Will post pics soon.

and BTW, 285 wide NT05s will fit on a 9 in. rim! :ugh2:

From what I can tell the Nitto's don't perform as well as the Hankook or Kumhos. I'll be replacing my Sports with 275/35/19 and 305/30/19 on the stock sports mags with the Hankook V12s...

I dont think modified mag would outfit all the competing cars in the tuner shootout with NT05s if they didnt perform well, no car is making less than 400whp btw. And you might want to check fitment with the 305's, different brands fit differently, Nittos run thin, at the most, id run 295's on a 10 in. rim.

Red370 08-13-2009 05:16 PM

A buddy of mine had a GT500 a week, tire came off the wheel on the highway, totaled it, almost died. Had 305's on 10 in. wide rims so be careful man.

just go with PS2's..but shouldnt this read "nails make potenza's expensive" ?

gleonard 08-13-2009 07:21 PM

ended up getting an internet quote of $300, took it to the dealership. They were surprised because, according to them, that is less then their cost for the tire. The sold it to me for $330 in stead of the quoted $470. I saved a bit of money, but still expensive.

Red370 08-13-2009 07:25 PM

$140 savings aint no slouch, not bad at all.

One_Quick_Z 08-13-2009 09:33 PM

I feel your pain I had to replace a Right rear tire also I had a bolt and two screws wtf.....

It cost me $350 installed for a replacement
