Considering to buy a 370Z?

I have decided to write a review of my 370Z after seeing many posts asking to give pros and cons on the car. Hopefully it will either help turn you away from buying or it will encourage you to buy.

First of all I am reviewing a 370Z Touring with AT and every option available. Some things may or may not apply to even 6SP version with the same options. I have had it for 4 months and put on 8k miles which include long distance trips.

Cons first:
- Rear tires with sport package make a lot of road noise
- Huge blind spot on driver side
- Massive side mirrors to compensate for blind spot but create even more obstruction even for someone who is over 6’ tall
- It does not have 1 mph cruise control
- The speedometer will travel +/- 4mph while cruise control is engaged depending on terrain
- There is a major city in my state that voice recognition with navigation will not recognize no matter what (if there’s one, there must be more)
- No USB input on the deck, only compact flash card
- Stock exhaust should be a bit louder
- Remote key buttons are huge, plastic, not sufficiently indented and get pushed accidentally in my pocket all the time
- The gas pedal is too big (bus big)

Pros:
- Fun to drive
- It is fast and has a lot of grip
- The brakes with sport package are amazingly smooth and effective
- The manual mode of the AT works very well and has no slip from 2nd gear and up
- AT feels like manual but without the annoying clutch
- AT has rev match feature
- It has a luxurious feel for a change from 350Z
- The cabin actually eliminates a lot of outside noise (but not enough from rear tires)
- Gas pedal has been adjusted so that you can actually maintain speed, encourages gentle driving during low revs
- I’ve had better than advertised gas mileage when driving normally (3-5 mpg better than 350Z), during aggressive driving it’s much worse than 350Z
- Smoother ride than 350Z even with sport package
- I actually like the loud engine at high revs
- 19” Rays with sport package look great
- I like the rear wing with AD package
- Remote keys work from much greater distance than 350Z
- Leather seats are sticky so there is no slipping during cornering
- Leather seats will not make you sweat any more than cloth

Issues other reported but I haven’t experienced:
- Oil overheating - I have not ever reached 230 degrees even in 110 degree temperatures and 100% humidity
- I do not have any rattling noises so far
- I do not have an “oil consumption” problem so far
- No brake issues
- In fact there are no known problems so far

In conclusion, this car is either so beautiful that people can’t get enough or is so ugly that people can’t look away.

I hate the remote key buttons getting pushed accidently while in my pockets!

The Nissan FOB is ugly, has that oval shape that people here chuckle about, referring to it as "FOBgina." That's as silly as teenage boys in middle school who haven't lost their virginities asking, "have you ever seen a girl naked before, besides your sister coming out the shower?"

Road noise

Yes there is road noise. I am not so sure if it is all the "Z's" fault. The car is so low I think a lot of the noise comes from surrounding cars.

I was on a very smooth last weekend and was amazed at how quiet it was.

Sure a little growl from the tires/exhaust but much quieter then on the freeway.

Hmm, I would ay more people are probably having ownership experiences like you. The ones, GENERALLY speaking, that are having problems, are probably abusing their cars, too much testosterone in their systems. LOL

have only had mine for a week, road noise is loud,i have a z06 vette that's quieter ,cabin fit and finish is excellent, love the 7at trans, still learning all the nav/stereo capabilities,no oil issue ,great looks, leather int feels great,i'm 6' 230lbs and i fit fine.blind spots are a issue just learn the car and drive smart.

- Rear tires with sport package make a lot of road noise

Uh it's a sports car with sticky tires - this is completely normal....

- Huge blind spot on driver side

Yup

- Massive side mirrors to compensate for blind spot but create even more obstruction even for someone who is over 6’ tall

I don't think they look overly big - compare this car to the 240Z. Looks "to scale" in every way....

- It does not have 1 mph cruise control

Never cruise at 1 mph so that's not really an issue ;P

- The speedometer will travel +/- 4mph while cruise control is engaged depending on terrain

maybe +/- 1 mph for myself including up hill, etc. That's on the very rare time I use cruise...

- There is a major city in my state that voice recognition with navigation will not recognize no matter what (if there’s one, there must be more)
- No USB input on the deck, only compact flash card

Don't have Nav but that sucks - good thing the 2010 has addressed this issue.

- Stock exhaust should be a bit louder

Absolutely agree - that's why I upgraded the exhaust in the first week.

- Remote key buttons are huge, plastic, not sufficiently indented and get pushed accidentally in my pocket all the time

Typically not an issue but I have had it do that to me...

- The gas pedal is too big (bus big)

Gas pedal seems reasonable to me.... no desire to change the size....

Road noise being normal is a bit misleading. I bought the touring for the GT feel. In fact I tested a few different new cars before choosing Z and all had lower road noise.

Again, same answer to the mirror issue, all but 1 of the cars had smaller mirrors, G37. I am not trying to compare my new car to a century old car.

There is a stretch of road that I travel on every day and the cruise control does the same thing, falls down 4 mph. I can demonstrate this to anybody anytime.

I don't do upgrades, because I don't want to void warranty or even suggest to the dealer that they might gave grounds for voiding warranty. I am civilized like that so I will stick with the exhaust.

Yes gas pedal is the right size if you're used to driving it. It feels right now but when I bought it, it felt bothersome. All my other cars had much smaller gas pedal.

Another thing I forgot to put in. With navigation you get two different clocks. This wouldn't be bad if they both agreed on how long a second lasts but no matter what you do, sooner or later they will get out of sync.

phelan 08-13-2009 10:33 AM

I don't even notice the clock on my NAV, so whatever :P

Too bad Nissan thought CF cards were a good idea in the '09 model. I really want the USB...oh well.
