That is true but people who don't know much about cars are the ones that assume things because they think it costs way more than it does. I had an S2000 when I was 17 a 350Z at 19 and yes my parents bought me those cars when I was in college, not ashamed to admit that my parents loved me. Now I'm 26 and have a career I would think the questions would stop.

6MT 08-21-2013 11:51 AM

I see people's rides all day long. I must say that I don't treat them differently because of what they drive. I get real idiots who drive nice rides and I get really nice people who drive crap. It's all in what "kind" of person they are that decides how I treat them.

Meulen 08-21-2013 11:56 AM

yes....

I've had neighbors so jealous of some of my cars they insulted me and quit talking to me. It's pretty rediculous. It's America...land of opportunity. Can't we be happy for people?

yeah. Heard that. A LOT. not happy about it but whatevers.

ha-ha, I got that too, even though my previous car was a 2008 BMW convertible, loaded at $52,000.-, people are funny sometimes, but at the end I bought the car for my pleasure and could care less what anybody thinks. I did not buy it to impress anyone but myself.

not ashamed that your parents loved you, because they bought you a car?
pretty weird, don't you think. I am sure they loved you the same even without the cars!

kenchan 08-21-2013 07:30 PM

I had a shitt civic in college so I guess my parents hated me. :crying:

True! I'm 19 and i worked my heart out to afford this car, i've had the car for just two days and i've already had a couple people ask me if my parents bought me the car. I'll take it as a compliment though.

At least you are an adult now and graduated from the sh!t Civic to a mediocre Fit.

My father told me at 13 if I thought he was going to buy me a car, forget it! I started working and bought and sold 3 cars before I had a license. Kicked my parents out of the garage when I was 18 because my car was newer than theirs.

Magic Bus 08-21-2013 08:51 PM

OP, yes they do but age has a factor in this also. In my early to mid twenties back in the early 80's I owned a 72 Vette then a 76 280Z. Young ladies whom I didn't know would come up to me all the time and strike up a conversation. When I owned a Toyota Corona before that, I was invisible.

In late 03, (age 45) I was one of the first here to get a G35 Coupe and now the Z (age 55), young ladies will look and a few have said "nice car" but not really looking to strike up a conversation. Oh chit, why'd I write this, I'm all depressed now :shakes head:

Hotrodz 08-21-2013 09:25 PM

You must be doing something wrong...you only got me by a couple of years and its all good from teens to soccer moms...wait don't tell me it will all stop in two years!!!

I got that one a lot too. I just said no, I'm going to live to 150 so your argument is invalid.

XiP 08-21-2013 09:54 PM

Yes.

Chuck33079 08-21-2013 09:56 PM

When I drove my Subaru, people expected me to be a flat billed hat wearing Ken Block worshiping Brotard. Now that I drive a Z, people are surprised I'm not Asian. Oh well.

XiP 08-21-2013 09:57 PM

What vehicle do you think has the least stereotypes associated with it?

No idea. I'm in TX, so the simple fact I'm not in a truck is out of the ordinary. Maybe a beige Camry?

:bowrofl: truck capital of the world yup, it annoys me sometimes seeing all these trucks driving around not actually carrying or hauling anything...

beige camry... yup I pretty much can't think of anything to stereotype about that car lol

Chuck33079 08-21-2013 10:06 PM

My mom had a beige Camry. It was invisible. You could speed to your heart's content and never get stopped. If I ever decided to smuggle contraband I'd use one.

10MPlayer 08-21-2013 10:18 PM

I've had several occasions where young girls, and I mean girls, like teenagers, say nice car. I know they're not looking at me. They just like the car. THen I had a neighbor lady telling my wife how she saw my car and said to her friend, "there goes a mid-life crisis". I smiled and laughed before I walked off.

I've heard more about the midlife crisis than anything else. Fact is, the midlife crisis was years ago when I bought the Mustang 5.0. The Z is just about getting back to what I've always loved. My second car was an MGA. My roommate had a TR4. We helped each other work on them and tune up the SU carbueretors and fix the Lucas wiring.

I've always liked sports cars. I had to drive a pickup for a few years while we were in the home remodeling phase. And that coincided with the Windstar van while in the kid raising phase. I guess people like to label you no matter what you drive. Our brains are hardwired to classify things into neat little boxes.

so wait let me get this straight

if you're young and you buy a sports car people think you're a spoiled brat
if you're middle aged and buy a sports car people think you're going through a mid life crisis

sounds like a bunch of jelly people to me, haters gonna hate

I didn't mean it as in they showed me love by buying a car but I was referring to people questioning me about the S and Z at the ages I owned those cars and making jealous comments.

So true, I just last week was at a traffic light and mentioned to my wife, we were the only once within 3 rows not sitting in a truck. Next I saw was the one next to me trying to race from the stop.....what is that with trucks want to race anyway.

Other than that, I love being the odd one in a little sports car :happydance:

DavidInIndy 09-12-2013 08:40 AM

There are certain girls at my gym who I've seen and thought nothing of and vice-versa. Not being mean, but most of us are just strangers who go to a gym and workout.

But at least two have seen me in my Z...and then I noticed a change in them. So that's kinda funny.

Totally true. This is why when i was single I always went on the first 2 dates in my orange Mazda. I loved that car, and it was cool IMO... but most women in their late 20s and early 30s didn't necessarily think so. It was a VERY effective tool at weeding out the gold-diggers and those who weren't really interested in me. If they couldn't get past the car (despite the great dates, conversation and me bringing flowers) or they asked to drive the next time it was over for me.

For those that made it to a 3rd date I'd pull up in the Z. You should see their faces when I pulled up. And then when they asked if I got a new car and I say "No, I've had this one for a while but only take it out for those that deserve it."... Seriously no better way to make a girl feel special, change her opinion of you for the better, and turn a girl on. Follow that up with dinner at my "3rd date" restaurant, then dancing at a whole-in-the-wall hip hop club most had never been to, then to my place to seal the deal. Man, those were good days.

The only exception was my wife. I knew she was the one before we even met (talked through email etc before meeting in person). For her I drove the Z on the first date and took her to the 3rd date dinner place on the 1st date. Married now with a 10 month old daughter and couldn't be happier. :happydance:

ACKD 09-14-2013 03:10 PM

Well, people joke that I am going through my mid-life crisis or at least I hope they are joking! Or they think I have lots of money not realizing that the car wasn't that expensive.

Mr&Mrs 09-14-2013 05:51 PM

I have always had the best sports car I could afford from the age of 17 to present. As others have mentioned my social status has increased right along with it and any lifelong friends are used to it. So for me nothing has changed.

The only exception to this is the people I work with. Unfortunately our pay structure is fixed so we all pretty much know what each other make minus the differences in overtime. I get the vibe all the younger guys hate me, at one time I owned 4 cars (two 370s), a new zx10r, 600, and a small but nice house on a lake. I have cut back on some of my toys but now own two houses on lakes, one I now rent out, and the one we are currently living in. I can’t help it that I know how to budget our money. They all think im a drug dealer on the side.

These types of people just need one more thing to brag about. I had a guy trying to trash talk me at a party and go race him in his truck because all night people were telling me how awesome my car was. I guess with the help of alcohol he finally got the balls to say something because he was jealous. His hoopty turbo diesel was claiming 600hp, which I tried to explain to him would not touch the power to weight ratio of my car but it was like talking to a brick wall. I guess he thought beating my car would make people at the party like him more than me. Even if he would of beat me I was still dancing with my hot *** wife and 3 other girls all night while he creeped in the corner so I still win. :driving:

Edit: On the midlife crisis topic......I cant WAIT to see what my midlife crisis car is.

Yep, got called a mid-life crisis twice this week. It gets old. Some guys like big- a s s trucks, some guys like quick little cars. Doesn't mean anything.

Of course we all know guys in big-a s s trucks have tiny penises.;)

PapoZalsa 09-14-2013 08:55 PM

Well when I am in my "hupty" Ranger 92 truck people look at me different then when I'm driving or pumping gas with my Z, especially females.

Example, pumping gas to the Ranger, females don't give me time of the day. However when I'm pumping gas in the Z most of them want to make conversation. :shakes head:

A lot of people don't understand that when your kids were growing up you didn't have the money and time for an extra car. Even that I always had my car and the family car.

Most people once the kids go to college they don't need the truck, van, SUV or 4 door car. So they buy what they want or always wanted.

Now if you downgrade to a Condo or Townhouse is mid-life crisis. Stupid people! That is just jealousy. :shakes head:

And for the lil pee pee, I just would say well just try it if you want to find out. :rofl2:

Exactly, you're either broke because you're raising kids or you need the van or the truck because you're in the home remodel/upgrade phase of life or taking kids to soccer, dance, baseball, football, whatever. Then finally, the kids move out, the remodels are done, you have a little extra cash at the end of the month for the first time of your life so you buy something you actually WANT instead of something you need. Jealous a-holes don't get it. We're here for ya, brother.

nmjaxx9 09-15-2013 01:22 PM

I get treated the same regardless of what I drive. A car can compliment a person but your self esteem and how u carry yourself says a lot about how people treat u. Im respected every place I go, the Z just gets love from everyone as well. I appreciate the love I get from people.

Nailzs 09-15-2013 05:52 PM

A person I work with gives me the evil eye because I bought my Z new and he rides a bicycle. He's broke before Monday because he drinks or drugs his money away. Four DUI's later he had his drivers license permanently revoked. It's a sad situation he's in, but it's by his own making and he has no one to blame but himself.

Shamu 09-15-2013 06:09 PM

Yeah all my Porsche buddies stopped wanting to hang out with me when i bought the cheap Z. Sort of treated me like I was from lower rung of society. Cougarish ladies in nice towns stopped asking me about my car and high school kids started to tell me how cool my Z was. Defintely downgrade socially from my Porsche.

Honestly, based just one looks, I think the Z looks much sexier. However, that new 2013+ 991 carrera 2cs ...:yum::yum: still..Z has the slight edge.
But, both look great.
