Fob Fail

No, it's not that it won't start the car or anything. Take a look at the pic. Reached in my pocket, get jabbed by something sharp, pull out my hand and my thumb is bleeding! The cut out details in the panic symbol came out & left rough edges. Anyone else had this happen? I switched to my other fob, but it would be nice to have two that worked and didn't require a band aid to use.

that sucks! Sounds like something that would happen to me.

Edit* idea: Would a small drop of epoxy/filler work to level it off again?

These proxy fobs are infamous for it, we have had multiple second hand cars come through with peeling/sharp fobs

I had the same issue. Just switched to my other fob. Just in case you were wondering, they are waterproof, Jumped in the ocean for about 30 min with it in my pocket (accidentally of course) and it still works like a charm.

Same thing here. Mine wasn't severe or anything, it was more like a paper cut. Still annoying though :shakes head:

Hmmm...
Since I'm apparently not the only one this has happened to, wonder about putting some clear epoxy (or even finger nail polish) over it before it happens? Just kinda fill it in so it doesn't catch on anything?

It's a button that if I have to use it, I'm sure I'd be drawing my .45 instead of hitting the horn lol I say epoxy it . :hello:

Jeez... I push it to scare friends... :rofl2:

LOL, Actually I used it to scare a little kid once. He was about to put his grubby paws on my freshly washed car. I found it hilarious, the kid, not so much.

I usually use it when I go to concerts. I always forget where I park, and it's interesting to hit that panic button. I'm 4/4 when it comes to having someone standing near the car when I finally get there.

It also happened at the rodeo recently (but that one was funnier). When I got to the car and turned off the alarm, the family standing nearby was all smiles. The Dad said, "I looked at my wife and told her I didn't do anything. She didn't believe me! Thank God you showed up." :icon17:

OP: Yes I have had FOB degradation. Worse looking than your own. It is even peeling on the middle one now.

I have never been cut, and plan on using it until it is completely peeled and beyond.

I take my truck to public events lol If you give that a door ding, eh screw you it has loads already lol. It's big, I can find it anywhere, except maybe parked in Texas (I'm sure it would be stolen in a heartbeat haha).

That stuff that peels cuts like a razor blade, and it stings! The interior door handles in my friend's Cobalt delaminated and cut my finger deep. I've had some "metallic" stickers poke out, snag, and cut my fingers as well. It is very unpleasant. Good to know!

Now we need someone to machine us some real metal buttons that doesn't peel and slit our fingers.
