Having trouble picking a Z.. and having trouble with the manual
Hello all im back with more noobish questions so you can all get mad and say ugh what a noob or hey man not to be rude but theres like a bagilion post on this already so :gtfo2: ( not that a forum Is for posting and helping :shakes head:) anyway....
Heres my first problem Im looking into a new Nismo vs a GT and I cant decide becuase from what I here the Nismo is very stiff and not an enjoyable everyday car and that the nismo exhaust on the vehicle doesnt provide any extra RWHP or sound increase, On the other hand If im going to pay for a Z I dont really want the GT for the simple reason that there less rare and just dont look as sweet. ( please do not reply to this thread saying well sir if you want a more rare car you can buy a caymen s or some other vehicle, I dont want another vehicle I want a Z :ugh2:) My second problem is that I have been dreaming of a Manual Z I love how it feels and controls but when I test drove one I found my self driving like a newbie shifter, I was over reving to go from a stand still to just cruising like say im going into second and i push the clutch then I found myself giving it to much throttel before I let of the clutch and it was just a mess also sometimes when I would press the clutch in the rpms would start going up and my foot wouldnt even be on the gas??? until i let the clutch out it would just keep goin higher scared me a bit. Third problem, will someone willing tell me how they drive there manual Z like how many rpms do u use while holding the clutch to go from N to 1st to get moving and If I wana take it to the track where and when should I shift do I slam the gas down through all gears and just shift as fast as possible at redline? ~Thanks for reading~ :hello: |
We've been slaming the NISMO as a performance package upgrade but it sounds like you really like the styling of the package as well. In that case the cost of adding on a body kit as well as the suspension upgrades, etc the NISMO IS a good value for the money regardless of what most of us say. Once you get into having a body kit installed and painted you start adding a lot of extra expenses on. Not to mention your NISMO comes from the factory painted and installed to the same level as the car is assembled so the fit and finish should be perfect. As for the harsh ride - do you want a performance sports car or grandpa's Lincoln Continental? You don't get both.
Get a MT6 and it will come to you quickly. Driving it around and you'll get the feel for it in a matter of days and you'll improve as the weeks go on. Don't worry about who shifts when - its really your driving style. You'll start to feel how the car responds and you'll adjust your driving to the car. |

The clutch release to start in 1st is not about the 'right launch rpm'. You can get the car rolling at 750 RPM if you modulate the throttle correctly while releasing the clutch. It sounds like you just need to learn where the clutch 'takes'...something you'll learn with driving it every day.

screw the nismo. unless u really want the exteriors~!

I had issues with the 6MT as well. Totally different feel than what I was used to. But I have gotten used to it with time. I think the gearbox feels like crap, though. The TR3650 in my Mustang was a lot smoother.
|
i test drove it, it's hard to drive smooth. i liked the 135i much better because of the visibility.
you can't see much out of the 370z. when turning onto a road. i guess i would have to go on an extended test drive next time. |
I understand about driving like a noob. I've had my Z for almost a month and I'm still not fully smooth with it yet. It definetly is harder than other cars I've driven to get perfect. My WRX was a lot easier to get a grasp of as is my friends SRT-4. Even the Z06 Vette I drove didn't take long to get used to. Still, you will get better with time in the Z. Actually it got to the point where I didn't drive my 280z for almost 3wks and when I got back in that car I was driving like a new teen. The clutch in my 280z is far from as stiff as the 370z. With any car it will take time to get used to it but with the 370z it will take a little longer. I wouldn't let that detour you from getting the 6speed.
As for the Nismo, I don't care for it and don't see the appeal unless you only care about rarity. If you like a rare car then go for it but aside from that it's really nothing special. Don't get wrong, it's not bad, but if I wanted base interior I would just get a base and save some money. If I wanted to pay 39k for a Z I would get the touring. To each their own and if you like it just get it. The only Nismo part I want are those wheels. Eventually I'll get those for my Z. |
Thanks everyone this helps alot.. I gues if I choose to get the MT I just need to gain experiance..:driving:

Exactly. Many newbies make the mistake of referring to the RPM while driving manual transmission. Even automatic cars do not shift at the same engine speed all the time. It varies depending on road conditions... uphill, down hill, turning, etc. My tip to you... Don't even pay attention to your tachometer. Feel how the car is responding to your driving inputs. You will know when to shift. Taking off, on another hand, is the tricky part. You will just have to practice. |
^^+1, she is like a women, just listen to her, and she will tell you what to do!

yeah man, the manual is no biggie, my first manual was a zx3 focus and within months i was rallying that FWD as if it was AWD.
