Really? The few times I've fired a 9mm or .40 without muffs it's been painful. I've never been dumb enough to uncork the .357 without muffs and earplugs. It's still loud.

How long did it take to get the smell and soot out of the car?

Yeah, it shouldn't be too bad in a fight or flight scenario. The brain cuts off hearing.

Chuck33079 08-08-2013 01:21 PM

I wouldn't bother. You only get so much hearing, and it doesn't grow back. Save it in case you have to do it for real sometime. Unless you want to borrow the .357 snubnose flamethrower and let me film the results.

Point taken. ;)

I was just trying to say that there were other things that could have been done that didn't involve using a firearm. Maybe my examples weren't the best. I suppose roll-the-windows-up would have been the best course of action.

I hope we can agree that attempting to use a gun in this situation was totally inappropriate.

At that moment. Auditory exclusion, right? It's still going to do damage, you're just concentrating on the threat.

I'm guessing Rhonney is more concerned about the fact he almost blew his junk off being a dumbass.

Probably, it's supposedly the same as the scenario as when you're in a stand of people yelling, you'd go deaf, if you yell along with them, you won't.

You're retarded, lol

(Actually I have too, in the desert, I'd never do it in even a mildly enclosed area) shot more .44 Magnum... That was bad enough...

yea when i did the 50 no muffs it was on a friends farm. we did this big controlled shoot with a astro van we had donated. one guy we know did like a class/live shoot on vehicle situations. also showing weak spots and strengths of different areas of the car for "informational" purposes lol

then we turned it to swiss cheese once finished

SouthArk370Z 08-08-2013 01:32 PM

Please, please, please, do NOT be using firearms without hearing protection. Not even to fire off just one or two rounds every now and then. The damage is cumulative. You may not do much damage with one or two shots but you do some damage and the damage is permanent. There is really no need to get used to the bang of your gun. In an emergency you won't notice it. You will lose some hearing but I'm not gonna recommend stopping to put in earplugs when being attacked. ;)

OK. I'll get off my soapbox. Thanks for listening (if you still can heehee).

:iagree: I've got a .40 with a 3" barrel, that must be deafening as well...

Details?? something tells me it will be an interesting story :tiphat:

I got kicked pretty good right in the ear in my last fight, lost the hearing for a bit (ear drum stressed) but thankfully all came back...having that underwater feeling in the ear sucks

Footloose301 08-08-2013 01:35 PM

I carry a fully loaded xd9mm subcompact at all times.

Why can I see someone doing that?

I only refrain from wearing it when hunting deer. Rabbit, I'll wear plugs, or at least one

Tazicon 08-08-2013 01:38 PM

I drive so slow it pisses people off once I get through the gates of my community. I could never be seen and someone think I am going fast even with the cat back etc on my Z. Kids play out in the streets, people are out walking and riding bicycles. No way am I going to take one of them out.

Please understand, if someone took the time to write you a note, most likely you WERE driving like an a**. Slow it down! If you were just going a little too fast they wouldn't waste their time on it.

Chuck33079 08-08-2013 01:39 PM

If I'm up in a deer stand, no reason not to put in plugs. Quail I only wear one. There's way too many rattlesnakes in the brush you're running through to be completely deaf.

yea when i'm deer hunting i dont wear any. i only need one shot with the .308 :tiphat:

SPOHN 08-08-2013 01:40 PM

Well, until someone outs this guy as a member here, or he comes in to try and defend himself, we don't have much else to do. It's not like we've got somebody arguing he was justified in his response.

yea i agree. we do have his name lol

like i said when people gave me trouble about my driving and it wasnt just i just drive past their house in a low gear at high revs. my exhaust is so loud too so i feel i delivered revenge for their idiocy lol

i got a decibel reader app on my phone with 110 as its max and i maxed it out before i even got close to redline lol i was around 90db at idle....inside my car :bowrofl:

SouthArk370Z 08-08-2013 01:57 PM

I had a set of Norton Sonic Ear Valves that worked great for me. Very little attenuation at normal sound levels but they close off when hit with an impulse. They lasted about 10 years. On the range, you could leave them in for normal conversation but they would kick in when a shot was fired. Still needed muffs for full protection with big guns but seemed to work well when used alone with .22s.

I've been shooting air rifles indoors lately and haven't replaced the NSEVs. If anyone sees a deal on them (or equiv), let me know.

FPenvy 08-08-2013 02:00 PM

is it weird that i keep checking everyone's profile who's viewing this (besides people i know) to see if the person who shot themselves is on here reading this

Chuck33079 08-08-2013 02:04 PM

Oh, I hope he ends up in here. It'll make the Shane E90 gangrape look like a pillow fight.

Is this the guy who more or less hates Nissan?

Chuck33079 08-08-2013 03:07 PM

Yeah, every post is some flavor of "Nissan sucks." He's been banned for it once, but it was unfortunately only temporary.

Why bother coming back if you truly feel this way? I know you don't want to admit it but I think very deep inside you love us very much

jburke26 08-08-2013 04:22 PM

Maybe we can put JungleZ and Rhonney Jacobs in the same Z. Maybe they could take turns shooting each other.

Now I reported him. Tired of it.
