North Dakota is the same way though. Gotta have "front-facing" plates in accordance with DOT. So, much like the other super-tuners in town, I did this...

No complaints from the local cops here in Fargo. Only the State Troopers give me crap when they swing through the city.

A buddy of mine is an EMT. He strongly advises against putting it in the windshield. In the event of an accident, it is a very sharp projectile.

Yup, nice to cops = respect back at you.

I was clocked speeding in my Z (first time ever caught speeding in general), I think it 70 in a 45 or something, but being respectful and truthful, he wrote me up for having something hanging on the rear view mirror instead.

Apparently it's illegal in Jersey to have something hang there. So I got slapped with a $50 fine instead of something much worse.

Crucify me if you must, but I don't see the big deal in rocking the front plate. It doesn't ruin the look of the car, IMHO. The drilling thing is a valid concern but there are ways around it. I would rather be road legal and not attract any unnecessary attention from the force. To each his own.

Got pulled over multiple times for no front plate in my old car in nys, never got a ticket.

+1. I have seen some pics during defensive driving course training, of pepole who had their plates wedged in the dash/window. They slammed on their brakes, got hit from behind, and the plate flew towards them and sliced their neck. Not a pretty sight.

OP, this is the plate mount I run on my car:

None taken, brother. I'm comfortable with my decisions!

perhaps if it happens again, then I will consider it as more of an option.
Here in Socal almost no one have front plates..
especially vettes, bmw, Benz, all the high end exotics..

edit: so how do these zip ties work ?? I just tie it around? or what.. .

coolvans1988 08-07-2013 04:08 PM

Don't go with zip ties, i had like 6 on my plate and it went missing somehow.
I also got pulled over for speeding and for being on the phone. But at the time
i didn't have my front plate because it had fallen off. I hate that heart pounding feeling and a weird sensation on my butt lmao. Luckily the two cops let me go with a fix it ticket since they saw my crappy record (glad its back to 0 points now). I had to get new plates since i was missing one (dmv fees is like $50 or so). Then you pay the fine and best to go to a CHP place to get it checked out for proof.

I had it in the windshield for a few days a long, long time ago. My EMT buddy's exact words to me were "You're a complete ******* idiot putting that there." Considering he's seen the aftermath more than a few times, I listened.

Well zip ties might work just because I plan on taking it off right away..so for all I care it can fall out on the way back from getting it signed off LOl.

I heard they are really butts about having a front plate in the LAX area ..they will seriously stop you just for not having one ..

yah, you can got to autozone or even walmart to pick them up. get the ones that are at least 4mm width and just zip tie it to the plastic vents.

then cut the excess off with wire cutters or scissors.

i run front plates too since our state requires it. and ive been pulled over too many times just for that over the decades and just got old (just warnings).

i made this black cover out of hard felt and thin magnet. i just stick to the plate frame when i want to take picts. there are 2 holes at the tops where i have the plate screw caps so that the cover sits completely flush.

ive actually driven around with it on after a photo shoot by mistake. :icon17: oops... did not fly off.
