Prior to the Z bought a used 07 Vette. Worst mistake I've ever made. Bought the Z new. No problems so far. Will never buy a used sports car again.

The pump replacements seem to be working very well. Some N55 engines have had the problem, as you've mentioned, but luckily BMW has been covering them under the same N54 policy. |
i bought my 2011 used, only thing i have to do is change oil and replace fluids

Theres nothing wrong with buying used. I always bought new until recently as well. Buying used is a lot more work, even more for a sports car, but if you're smart about it and patient, you'll find a good one that matches what you want eventually.

As long as you don't wind up with my old car you are probably fine. |

I bought a 2009 with 12K on it a year and a half ago. Now has 38K with no issues although I did pull the SL fuse just after I got it.

I bought a used 2009 w/11,233 miles. Real garage queen, the clutch fluid, brake fluid, were clear. We went over it with a fine tooth comb in our shop and couldn't find a single nut or bolt that had ever been turned. Carfax was clean (I know doesn't ALWAYS mean clean).
So far only had to pull the Steering lock fuse, other than that I'm happy. Normally I don't buy used but getting Touring / Sport new was WAAAYYY out of my budget. Plus I got a standard to boot. Original tires, the plastic was still on the pedals... Happy! Of course I had to wait forever to find the right one. Actually I found it by accident at the Honda stealership when I picked up my daughter after she dropped her car off for oil change. I've been a Honda guy for 10 years now. After we scoped out the car, another couple older than me were looking/test driving the car, the guy was way tall with a huge beer gut, totally out of shape, don't know how long he could get in and out of it without serious difficulty. I told my daughter, I'll see you later, haha. She laughed and left, she knew how long I'd been looking for just that car. If you look at my previous posts, I've told this story at least 100 times, haha! |
I have a 2009 and bought an extended warranty as first year models have unknown problems. I still have not used it.
I had the short block replaced and soon will get the steering lock replaced under warranty even though it never failed (pulled fuse). I think the bugs were worked out in later years and wouldn't be too concerned about the '09. I track my car and I've considered another as a dedicated track 370Z. It is reliable compared to other track cars out there. |

I traded my BMW for my Z. Extremely disappointed with BMW quality. Loved the car, but couldn't afford to keep replacing parts. 3 of the 4 window regulators broke at around $600 a piece. Both rear springs broke. I know Chicago has crappy streets, but all my Hondas never broke a spring driving the same streets. Engine was great on the BMW but the rest reminded me of why I quit buying American cars. I'll stick with the Japanese. The Z has been great so far. Bought used with 10K and now have 28K.
