Driving BACK from Houston to Los Angeles tomorrow (yes already)
EDIT: As with the last thread since I already left, I'll be updating the thread with things I see along the way
I made a detour through Austin to visit Chad at FringeXVO to get my hands on his prototype exhaust tips, and I met up with another member to buy something as well, then drove to Midland to go to a museum.
On the drive before I got to Austin, I was at a set of light, with my windows down, music on and this car's window goes down and this guy said "Nice music dog" (Ice Cube was playing)
Then he proceeded to splice a swisher open and dump the tobacco out. LMAO!!!
I dodged a damn possum, then hit a dead one very shortly thereafter, lol
I dodged Rocky (raccoon) and this redneck with a F350 nailed a deer WITHOUT stopping... Must have clipped it because by the time I got there it was still moving and in the middle of the road, so that scared the SHITE out of me, lol
I did also pass "Jesse James Real Estate", lol
And it's AMAZING to see all these random towns, I've done a LOT of road trips, but TX's are by far and away the weirdest...
Oh, and I got pulled over for doing 82 in a 70... RIGHT when my radar detector went off, the guy flicked his lights on, and I had already pulled over before he turned his red amd blue lights on. LOL!!!
But I asked for a warning and he said "I'll see what I can do"... There was a REALLY stressful 5-7 minute period where I knew he was writing me a ticket... Fortunately he gave me a written warning, lol!!! He then stated, "you see, your radar detector doesn't work as well as you thought, once it got it, I know your speed"
I just woke up, so I'll update pics of the museum soon.

Well... A few people know why I came...
Back story (no its not as long as my orher story with 60000 spoilers)
( Click to show/hide )
Anyways, my best friend's mom was diagnosed with cancer (multiple myloma) about a year and half ago. She was doing great at first, then terrible, then a lot better, then in the past few months dwindling off... Every few months she has come to Houston for a second opinion, but she didn't want to move just for treatment because she has family back home. Anyways, about 2 and half weeks ago the doctors in LA said, "we cannot help you anymore, you need to go home and die" literally. And as a family they said f this, we're going to Houston (Tuesday, June 18th) they took a flight over and Thursday my friend said hey, I think we're going to stay here in Houston, the hospital and doctors said they can take the case, would you mind driving our car over? And I replied that I could take it right then (it was 10PM) and he said no, take your time.
And I made this thread: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...-tomorrow.html
He then told me to wait for him because he had a flight Saturday that wasn't refundable and this way he can pack the car and we can drive together if I want.
So Sunday we left and I knew I NEEDED to make this drive in 24 hours because he needed to spend as much time with his mom as possible. And I decided to stay longer to give him some comfort and a feeling of home that he's got a friend.
Unfortunately, his mom started taking a turn for the worse and I'm glad I stayed with them. And several days ago his mom passed away (RIP Mrs. Rastegar) so they flew back and had a small family burrial.
Anyways... I'm on the way back now. If anyone needs ANYTHING from this way, please give me a shout. I don't think I'll be doing a non-stop drive just because I have a few stops to make
From Houston gotta stop at Buccee's for some Jerky, then Austin to pick up the Fringe XVO tips, then a member in Austin for some car parts, then Midland, TX to go to a car museum, then to get the gf and her family some BBQ, then back to Los Angeles
So I'll be leaving tomorrow or the next day, and if anyone needs ANYTHING feel free to call or text me (31O) eight nine three-42O7

I'm in TX on a road trip too, but in the other direction...going to/from South Carolina. I was in San Antonio earlier this week but now in San Angelo. I saw a couple 370s going the other direction on the highway. No run ins with the law yet. What detector do you have? I have a Valentine 1 but don't think its really been put to the test yet.

Hey, I've got a 9500iX, which no offense I think is superior to the Valentine 1, now my mistake was that when the road is DEAD, like at 4AM the cops aren't going to leave their radar on, they'll blip it on and off as they see cars, and NO radar detector would stop that
On the other hand today I got Ka band from 5 miles in advance, but that's because there were a lot of cars on the road

I still think the V1 is superior, IMHO. However, the V1 (or any good radar), out on a highway, really requires the user to monitor it and come to understand what the outputs mean as well. No system can accurately tell the difference between various kinds of false alarms and various edgy situations where you picked up a blip reflection from a trooper hitting a car with instant-on 5 miles out ahead of you. For me, having the directional display on the V1 (and the bogey counter and big signal strength meter) is a big help in sorting out what signals really mean, and the sensitivity on the V1 is top-notch. It lacks the modern features of the 9500ix like the GPS database stuff, but honestly that sounds like the sort of thing that will eventually hurt you more than help you. Cops understand how those location systems work, all they have to do is move a little to trip you up.
There's a lot to be said for coming to understand how to manually evade speed traps and cops, too. Reading the traffic ahead of you for signs of other cars slowing down, knowing the deadly trap areas like hills and bridges and slowing a little (or at least covering the brake and being ready), scanning visually as far out ahead of the car as you can, etc...

This Altima guy passed me and he had his high beans on the WHOLE time, but once he was in front, good, leave them on
Then he stated at 75 when it turned 75 and I'm at 83, and once I started passing him they were still on . So I slowed down, but he slowed with me all the way to like 45, lol
Then I flashed my high beams at him then gunned it around his dumb àss
The person in the back of their car looked back and looked so scared, LOL
(I do not support super speeding, but 6 different cops said within 10 over is safe)

Oh... And like a MORON I flashed my high beams at oncoming traffic to warn them of a cop in their side of the road...
One of them was a cop...

I believe it's illegal in most states under an umbrella law of "disrupting police duties"
As far as I am concerned, I was waving the guy behind the semi into my lane so he can overtake the semi too without having to slam on his brakes...
Or (only applicable in the redneck states), "these fùcking Jap cars, I'm trying to turn on the god damn fog lights and it flickers between the fog and high beam"
