State registration/inspection
So I just purchased a used 2013 Z from an out-of-state dealership (in Minnesota) and received the car but all that was provided was a temporary license plate with no registration and inspection stickers (required in TX). They said they will mail me the license plates and take care of the registration but is it going to be registered in the state of Minnesota or my state? Sorry if I'm being stupid but I'm confused :(

They'll mail MN registration
You'll need to get your state inspection done in TX and you'll have to register it here |
Oh, and for some dumb reason, resistration here is done at the tax office
|
Another thing I forgot to mention: they apparently took care of my state's taxes and I'm already paying them (amount is included in the loan), so does this mean maybe that they're registering my car in TX and not Minnesota? They said all I need to do is just have it inspected.

They're probably covering the MN taxes because that's where you bought it. Some states have reciprocity like if you bought the car out of state you only owe the difference in sales tax between the too, and you'd owe if you have a higher rate where you are getting it registered vs where you bought it.

Well I don't know about that. When you buy a vehicle they ask you what state are you going to register the car in.
So if you told them Texas they might gone ahead and did the work for you. Call the dealership and ask. If you payed MN taxes I would hate for you to go to the Texas office and have to pay the 6% of the car value. |
