Carlos Ghosn makes official Datsun confirmation...

Carlos Ghosn made an official confirmation of Datsun brand in India and Indonesia. His press release is very interesting in terms of what the press is saying vs his answers. In spite of the press, semi-knocking the Datsun name and brand. Ghosn makes a strong case for Datsun and i think bringing Nissan heritage in the Datsun name with affordablly priced cars is a marvel idea.

Hoping to see Datsun in the American market too at some point.

What purpose would bringing the Datsun brand back in the U.S. serve though? Cheaper cars than the cheap Nissans? Make the Z a Datsun again?

I believe the Datsun brand is going to be for emerging markets, where consumers are looking at a maximum price point of $2,000USD.

It can easily (eventually) cross over as a compact market segment, like what scion is to toyota? Which is a cheap car company as well with yet a lower market brand. It could be what Kia is to Hyundai... Build step level brands like Gm has Chevy, buick, Cadillac... Dodge Chrysler Jeep... Seems to be working for a few corporations.

I think the differences between the vehicles of Datsun and Nissan is going to be considerably larger than differences Kia/Hyundai, Scion/Toyota, etc. Like Dreamer mentioned, Datsun is supposed to be targeted at emerging markets and stuff. Just a guess, but I doubt that the vehicles Datsun will be putting out would be allowed for sale in the US.

Could be wrong though.

I know this is so on the onset. But thats why I said "EVENTUALLY" I figured what will happen in the U.S. is both Nissan and Infiniti will go upmarket. The Q60 coupe i believe will have a huigher price range than the G by a considerable margin. Considering that the Q50 pricing now starts where the G coupe used to start. That said. I think the Q60 will run from the low 40's to the mid 60's. The Q60 ipl, will cost over $100,000 considering it will be a luxury GT-R.

By 2017, I believe the Z start price will be between 35-37k. Most models of Nissan minus the cube, vera and sentra will be in the mid 20's to low 30's. I can see a company like Datsun by 2020 in the US

I'm excited to see a new Datsun. Hopefully it's not just a rebadging of Nissan's lowest end cars, but an introduction of newer, cheaper models.
