Dodged a Flying Truck Tire

On the way home from work, driving on the interstate. A truck, similar to the picture below, blew a tire. The truck appeared as though it came straight out of a dirt/gravel pit and the explosion blew dirt and rocks all over the road as well.

It was slow motion... the tread was cartwheeling through the air, directly at my car. I utilized the Akebono brakes for all they were worth and was able to avoid the large tread. A 1ft long piece bounced off the A-pillar only leaving rubber marks, no damage thankfully. 80-0 mph feels like an eternity in these situations.

The even scarier part is that the vehicle in front of me was a motorcycle, he passed the truck about 2 seconds before it blew.

Glad you are OK...

One time I had a tire on a Rim come off a car and bounce down the freeway in front of me and a dozen cars....If it had hit someone, they would be dead...

Freak things happen....Enjoy today and everyday..

Glad you're alright!

Wow, happy to see both you and you're car come out alright. I know what you mean by the brakes feeling like an eternity. The perception of time in emergency situations really changes things. Lol, watch there be a thread about Kermit running Carbotech XP10's and 8's on the street.

Glad you're ok, but you forgot to mention that you were auditioning for Fast 7

Glad you're all right.

I know the feeling well. I had this happen to me on the GW bridge leaving NY. I was in a Pontiac vert with trucks all around me. I f'd up and got on the wrong deck with all the trucks! That 10 seconds seemed like 10 minutes.

It wound up going under the front and making several horrible noises as it slammed the undercarriage. Luckily, no serious damage.

Not as bad as this though!

Good job avoiding it! Another incidence of ya never know! Must be a day for dodging tires. I too had to dodge a tire this morning on my way to work that was laying in the middle of the road....
