E10 vs E0

I did a little research that E0 has more energy per gallon than E10 so I figured I'd try a few tanks of the more expensive premium gas without ethanol. I'm at the end up my second full tank and I've noticed a few more MPG with E0 than E10 as expected. But, with that said the car seems just a hair sluggish than normal when accelerating. I would of thought the performance would be the same or just a little better with E0. Any thoughts? Also for all I know it could just be in my head

I didn't know you could find E0, lol

It may have more energy, but usually lower octane. That may be the reason.

If they are advertised as the same octane, I'd run E0 exclusively, because ethanol fùcks your motor, burns crappy and leaves deposits

Same 92 octane for both in my area. I only know of one gas station in my area that has it. They only sell E0 as premium and it says "alcohol free." Which I'm assuming means Ethanol free and the station is listed on
Ethanol-free gas stations in the U.S. and Canada

Ethanol is an alcohol though not all alcohols are ethanol!

The most difference you can get from using E0 to E10 @ 24mpg would be ~0.8mpg or ~3.3%. Not worth the effort imo.

SouthArk370Z 06-03-2013 03:47 PM

For a DD, there's not that much difference. 2011 Nismo#91's ~3.3% less for E10 should be in the ballpark for MPG and power should be close to the same. For reference, E85 is ~30% less.

Butt dynos are notoriously inaccurate. I'm not sure my butt would be able to feel 3% difference. It could be that you are running rich/lean and the E10 is burning better, but that's just a SWAG. I'm betting it's just a perceived difference.

Personally, I try to get "G100" whenever possible but don't get upset if I have to use E10. I might do the next fillup a little early but don't consider it to be a big deal.

E85 is a different story. I avoid it except when it's all that is available at the time. I will get just enough to get me to a real gas station.

What's G100? And, when you say you'll use E85 when that's all that's available I'm assuming you have another vehicle that's flex fuel or did you some how manage to convert your Z to flex fuel?

100% gasoline. AKA E0.

I had to put $5 (~1.5 gallons) in the tank when out-of-town and late at night. Put in just enough to get to the next station, plus a little safety margin.

I hope to never have to do it again. I check the gauge a lot closer before leaving on a trip nowadays. :)

Looks like it, haha. But, looks like the difference between E0 and E10 is almost negligible anyways

Hahahaha, that's funny but I would have to disagree only because the brz and frs both just plane suck (flame suit on). There I said it...
