Has anyone tried this?
My car was on and my cousin moved my car about 10 feet , the key was in my pocket and I was outside the car. Is the car suppose to turn off, if so at what distance? Has anyone tried driving further to see what happens?
|
No, but I'm curious about that too.
|
I have not tried to driving it without the keys. But several times I left it running while going back into the house to get something. It's nice that I can start it on cold mornings let it warm up without me in it, kind of like remote start. It's all good n' fun until I watch someone take off in my car that’s nicely started and warmed up for them.
I may have to try driving it without the keys just to see when of if it cuts off. |
there was someone on here who tried that allready, you can drive off without the keys.
however, once you turn it off, you wont be able to turn it back on. |

Makes sense as a safety feature. Imaging going on highway at 85mph and the battery in the key dies (or someone throws it out the window). You'd be screwed if the car just shut off.

I have tried and confirmed this method. For a fact, the car WILL NOT shut off if it is on and you walk away with the key. A running car can be driven as far away as the person wants until the car is turned off. Once turned off, it will not restart until the key is present. At no point will the car "shut itself" off unless it runs out of gas. |
Top Gear did that when they went to SF and got those American muscle cars. Jeremy got in the camaro when the guy was in the dinner and he drove it out into the middle of the street and parked it probably about 180ft maybe more.

car will not turn off until someone does it.
also, one guy left his G37 on the whole shift while at work.....just idling in the parking lot.... |
You can drive the car to California without the key if you want. Just don't expect to start it again after you shut it off...This is where the phone call to the Wife/Girlfriend to bring you the key gets embarrassing..

Having the car not shut off when the key is awol makes sense. What I don't get is why the car doesn't lock itself when the key is out of range.... that would be a great feature....
|
^^ not if you had a kid get in the car while your walking away and then they are locked in and dont know how to unlock it in the desert heat.
talk about a big lawsuit! |
Hook it up to the seat sensor.... if there is no weight in the seat it locks. Besides how the heck do you forgot you had a kid in the passenger seat?

hey everyone ive tried this like in the beginning by accident my bud moved my car i was still on and he wanted to just drive it a couple times around the parking lot... so i was like go ahead... he drove it on the road instead lol which was about 500-1000 feet away from me it was far far away from me and when he came back he was like dood isnt ur car suppose to like turn off or something? i could have like stole ur car if i was a theif?!? i was like dood i have nooooo clue that is soo ****** u can drive the car with out the key... :shakes head:

Lol how far youd have to go to make the person next to you throw the car key out the window on the highway. :icon17: |
The car will continue to run and a message is displayed on the dash ("Key out of range", or something like that...).
