I am picky I refuse to let just any shop touch my Z. Atleast I know when Nissan makes a error they fix the problem. I agree buying Ester Oil is like buying a Sumsung when it comes to LED's. Gotta pay alittle extra for the name. Just what I perfer.

lol I trust many shops here in town way more than the incompetent bozo dealers here :shakes head: I've always bought Samsung LCDs because they are without a doubt, much higher quality than generic brands that cost half as much. I do not give Nissan Ester that much credit. It may be better than Mobil 1 (even that is probably debatable), but it's not that much better (6qts for $30 vs 6qts for $65). The way Nissan is handling this ESCL recall just pisses me off even more, which is one more reason for me not to purchase their product. To each their own :tiphat:

I typically drive my Z less than 4,000 miles/year, so I change the oil once per year (when I take it out of storage; and this is not a debate as whether to change the oil at the begining of storage or at the end, so let's leave that for another topic). I've been using Royal Purple, 5W-30 synthetic which costs about $45 per 5 quart jug at O'Reilly's. Walmart has it sometimes, but none of the local ones had it. When I changed the oil last week, it was still mostly purple and probably could have gone another 3,000 miles.

I also don't like people working on the Z, so I do it myself. I have access to a drive-on lift and it makes changing the oil about a 15 minute job.

Dealership writes down every 4k on my sticker everytime. I even told them I want to come in every 6k..

They just want my $$$

I don't consider it extra... I look at the cheap, no-name brands as scams :icon17:

Sharp is the only one that still has a foot in the door.. but even their high quality Aquos models are overpriced for what they are.

:icon18: at least it's not a "What Oil Should I Use" thread :icon17:

My dealer calls me every 3 months to try and scedule for an oil change. I just crept over 3k, so no need yet for my second change (did the first after break-in). I will get it done every 3-4k with Ester oil, as I was able to get them to include it free with my maint gold package. So, I don't pay for any oil change:tup:
When they agreed to do the Ester oil free, I was thinking they might just fill up with their crap in a barrel and say it was Ester, so I said I would get my own and get them to reimburse me. They agreed!

Check your local Walmart for special pricing on the Pennzoil 05W-30 Ultra. 5 qt. jugs are around $25.00 Buy three of them. That will get you through 2 oil changes at 5.25 qts. each (5.5 qts if you run an oversize filter) per change and give you a few extra quarts for top off. Run it for 5000 miles, it's outstanding oil at that price. Buy good filters like the Mobil 1, or Purolator Pure 1 or Bosch. You can do a change yourself for about $35-40 worth of materials and know it was done right.
