So I used Dr. ColorChip on my 30-40+ rock chips and got unreal results. PICTURES! B&A

The previous owner of my car did the worst job taking care of his Z.. The rock chips on my front bumper were UNREAL! I decided to use Dr.ColorChip to do some minor repair but oh my goodness... It turned out SOOOO much better than I could ever expect. Here's the picture of the before and after. Top two photos are before and then obviously the clean bottom picture is the after. I was honestly so amazed. I recommend this product to EVERYONE with a black Z. Not sure how well it comes out on the other colors but on black it works like magic.

ORDERING MY CLEAR BRA ASAP! Hahah just thought I'd share with you guys. $70 for removal of over 40 chips was way more than worth it.

LOVE Dr. Colorchip!

Samjam1 04-28-2013 05:38 PM

Took about 4-5 hours to get the job done but it was well worth it!!

Greed 04-28-2013 08:35 PM

Looks great! I also swear by Dr ColorChip. It works.

JARblue 04-28-2013 08:48 PM

Nice! I might have to try this on my Z

Btw, you can insert the pic directly in your post by using the [IMG][/IMG] tag in your post with the Direct Link for Layouts from the hosting site. If you post high res photos, use the [SPOILER] tag. I have used both tags below. An alternative to the spoiler is to crop the pic yourself before hosting; I like to keep it under 1000 pixels on the longest dimension (800x600 is typically fine).

I use it too it works good especially when you do multiple passes to fill it up.

shaun66 04-28-2013 11:06 PM

I need to try it, I'm afraid ill end up making it look even more noticable.

T_R_J 04-29-2013 12:10 AM

How does this stuff hold up over time? How does it handle being waxed over?

CDepp 04-29-2013 07:47 AM

Ahhhh, spider-webbing-swirls. Polish that bad boy and then seal it!

(From what I can tell from your telephone, the job looks decent.)

kenchan 04-29-2013 09:34 AM

looks good. can you take a snap outside with the same sun angle for the after?

m4a1mustang 04-29-2013 09:36 AM

Dr. Colorchip is fantastic.

kenchan 04-29-2013 09:41 AM

i want to try on my G. has tiny tiny chips from normal wear over the years. :D

should be perfect for tiny imperfections, so i heard.

kidkotic2001 04-29-2013 09:41 AM

That looks real good, I have a couple of chips, I been wanting to use Dr. Color Chip but I am afraid that I will screw it up and make my chips worse.

It won't. Especially on silver. It will blend really well.

Dr. Colorchip makes a fantastic product. All their paints are hand-mixed on site per order.

Order the complete kit- you won't use all of it, but it's great to have some reserve for the eventual chip that pops up.

Also, read the directions thoroughly and follow them completely. Be patient. The results will be excellent.

It holds up how you would expect- take care of it with a sealant and wax and it'll stay pristine for quite a while.

If you get blobs for any reason or need to get rid of blobs due to touchups in the past, use Langka blob remover to get rid of them. Enjoy.

kidkotic2001 04-29-2013 11:26 AM

Nice, I will be getting this and trying it too if you guys say its easy and not hard I will try it.

cheshirecat 04-29-2013 12:29 PM

It's cake. The kit comes with everything you need, including a nitrile glove. Just read the directions thoroughly and don't rush it.

Some deeper chips may need a couple of applications of the paint. If the paint doesn't "fill" the chip, you'll have to add more paint when that paint has dried. Don't try to add more paint until the first paint has cured, otherwise it'll never level properly and you'll be wasting your time.

Samjam1 04-29-2013 12:29 PM

The process is simple and universal for all cars. Here's the tutorial I followed when doing mine.

Samjam1 04-29-2013 12:31 PM

OH ONE TIP. MAKE SURE YOU WIPE YOUR SURFACE WITH A DISINFECTANT OR SOME FORM OF ALCOHOL BEFORE HAND OR THIS WILL NOT WORK! That is the BIGGEST thing.

kenchan 04-29-2013 12:47 PM

cool... i would definitely be using my RC car motor spray. that's one serious degreaser that does not hurt my paint, and doens't stink like brake cleaner. :)

will definitely be giving this a shot this summer. i need outside temps to be higher.

that's the same reason I haven't done my EVO-R Z emblems yet... let the sun do my work for me

Dr. colorchip ftw

Cmike2780 04-29-2013 01:29 PM

I've tried this stuff and I'd say it's about 80% effective. It's not perfect, but the chips will be a lot less noticeable. I find that it works best on the really small chips. For chips larger than 1/16" of an inch, you're better off with touch-up paint. The way it works is, you dab the chip with the paint, swipe with your finger to level, let dry and rub the overspray with the blending solution. I'd order it with extra solution by the way. The basic comes with a tiny 1 oz bottle. Applying the blending solution is the tricky part. Too much and you remove all the paint you applied....too little and you'll still see paint globs.

...and you definitely need to removed any wax and contaminants before applying this stuff so it adhears properly. I usually clay bar and follow up with IPA wipedown.

Again, polish out those swirls. Definitely before getting a clear bra put on.

Your paint should look like this before applying clear vinyl-

reference the right side:

Cmike2780 04-29-2013 04:02 PM

Polish if you want. It's not that big of a deal. You won't make the swirls worst and applying the clear bra won't make it shine like it should anyways.

Speaking of clear bra, I saw this the other day. It's spray that dries clear and can be removed like plastidip and a fraction of the cost of installing a vinyl clear bra.
