Dealership FAIL!!
I have been having this ticking coming from under my car for a few days and finally went to the dealership for them to look to see what the problem was. I left my car with them for three hours and they say they cant find the issue. They say every thing sounds normal, so I figured ok well I guess its just one of the quirks of the car. When I would hit the gas I hear *tick and when let off I hear *tick. I thought this was strange but let it go. So today I take my car to treadquarters, to a guy that isnt paid 60 an hour like the nissan techs and doesnt work on nissans all day. Literally it took him 30 seconds to find the issue. listen to this:

They probably thought it was the clock on the wall ticking.:icon14:

That microphone must be dayum good, cause I've never heard a wheel bearing tick that loudly with a one inch rotation. Looks like a rear wheel to me, so more likely something with the e-brake or rotor.

Im just curious was your hand brake engaged while your mechanic is doing this on your rear wheel? If it is I think that is "Normal" to hear.
What is abnormal is what you have said that the clicking sound happens when you step on the accelerator pedal? |
no, the handbrake was off and car out of gear.
|
Good Luck, I think now that you did their troubleshooting for them. They should take it a little more seriously. The only way I can see a bearing making that much noise is if a bearing race is cracked, or one or more of the ball bearings is cracked. Either way I'd think the bearing would disintegrate in less than 10 miles under those conditions. That's why I lean a little more to it being an issue with the parking brake mechanisms inside the rotor.

Update us then once it got fixed. |

years ago I had a new 240Z. From the day i picked it up it had a clunk in the front end when I hit bumps. I took it into the dealer twice....nothing wrong. I finally took it to my brother who is a mechanic. He walked out to the car, poked his head under the front end...stood up and as he was walking away told me to tell the desler to take the packing blocks out of the front springs!? Most of them are idiots.

Well the car is at the dealership, will keep posted on what the issue is. they tried to argue with me again. great way to keep business.
Oh! A little background, I originally bought a 2009 370z base without the sport package. I kept the car for 41 days and decided I wanted one with the sport package. I took a loss to get what I want and traded for the 2010 I now have. So I have bought two of these cars from this dealership. I feel that they should bend over backward to try to keep my business, especially since I was looking at trading in again for a 2013 nismo. Ive had my current car for 6 months lol. The blue one is the first car I bought and the silver is what I have now. |
Did they try to charge you for the service again?
|
By that noise I would say it is a bad CV in the axle since it is only in a change in load condition.
|
The ticking when getting on and off the gas is commonly an issue with the axle to diff connection and is known as "axle click". There is a TSB that covers the 2009 model year. The solution is to unbolt the axles, regrease the connections, and retorque the bolts.
I had this issue and it was covered under warranty by my dealer. I mentioned "axle click" and he instantly knew what it was. |
|
Already checked for the axle click. Its not that. That was the second thing that was checked after the U joints. Hoping to hear from the dealership within the next hour or two. Might start taking bets on what the problem is

talk about lessons not learned. |
well, got done talking to the dealership. a few things going on here. 1. wheel bearing shot. 2. axle click 3. dealer tells me the axle click isnt covered under warranty, but will comp it. Im still not happy about how this was handled but its being handled. especially after I flipped when they said it wasnt covered. the axle click is considered an adjustment is what I was told. So for those of you out there that have this happen beware. If you make a big enough deal about it though they might cave like my dealer did.
|
That's BS that it isn't covered under warranty.
Glad they caved for you though. |
Glad you found the problem, you'll have to let us know how it turns out.

Told you it was axle click :tiphat:
When it comes to warranty issues, if there's a TSB, they damn well better cover it. |

Obviously, in the case of a recall, the dealer will perform the service at no cost to the customer for that individual recall coverage period |
I understand that you must be under warranty, however I find the dealer claiming that its just an "adjustment" and isnt covered even if under warranty is BS. If theres a TSB, they damn well better fix it while I have warranty coverage.
Just glad the OP found a decent dealer that didnt try to screw him. |
I bought the gold preffered warranty also, which means that I get bumper to bumper coverage for 100k miles ($2800 extra). Ive spent a lot of money at this place and figure they should do everything to keep my business. Im happy they are finally doing what needs to be done.
|
glad you figure this out. I was going to suggest something with the axle nut or the axle. Mine clicks too, maybe I should get mine fixed.
|
OP, after the fix does the clicking noise coming back again?
|
Crazy sound! I been hearing weird shyt from under the car as well, but mine sounds more like typical Nissan BS oddities.
