NEW TIP: Push To Start Button

I have an aftermarket headunit (Pioneer AvicF900bt).

It always takes awhile to startup (30 seconds).

A lot of the time the car is running while parked and I want to listen to music but shut the car off. Well generally I used to just go from "ON" to "OFF" and then to either "ACC" or "ON" but not turning the engine on. Unfortunately when I do that the car shuts my headunit off and then its another 30 seconds until everything goes back on again.

If you are in "ON" and quickly hit the push to start button 2x. The car will go into ACC and will leave your aftermarket headunit on and running but will shut off the car and everything else completely!

It took me a couple times to figure out the proper way to push the button quickly enough. But i do it all the time now when I am early for work or waiting to pick someone up!

Hopefully this little tip helps someone else!

I just discovered this by accident the other day. I was like "WTF...? How did I do that?"
Nice catch.

Hi, is this a feature or your are just pressing the button so that you do OFF/ACC really fast? And in the latter case, how safe is that for the start button components?

That's a cool tip!

Its just pressing the button 2x really fast.

I highly doubt its unsafe for the button components hah

It should be safe & sound. Its just for those who want to keep the song going but shut the car off.

I wonder if this works on people with the stock setup, ill have to try it next time I think of it.

:tiphat: I will rep when my reps reset, and I am back in town

I must have not pushed it quick enough that few times I had tried this randomly. I don't even have an aftermarket HU that takes forever to boot, and this bothered the hell out of me :icon17:

Excellent tip! While I don't have a head unit yet, it will be good to remember for the future.

This works. I do it all the time. I have been doing it for around 40k miles(2.5 years). No problems yet!

wouldn't it be a drain on the battery though?

Using the ACC without the car being turned will drain the cars battery slightly.

But its not like I am sitting in the car blaring music for +15 minutes at a time haha.

Anyone that doesn't know about draining battery from a radio or lights left on should do some reading or life experience!

It does. This is a feature of every Nissan push button. Been doing this since '08 with my Altima. Z is the same way. It's basically the same as turning your key to ACC to stop the engine but still have your accessories running. Also- if you leave it in ACC for awhile (I think it's around 1.5-2hours) the car will automatically shut off to conserve battery.

I've been doing this since I got the car. I was trying to figure out how I can put my car in ACC mode and it sounded really stupid to turn off everything and press the ON again, so I just tried the quick 2x and it worked!

... or update your HU?
