Indexing threads
Why don't members and vendors use indexing for their larger threads? I can't count how many time's I'm looking for something relevant and I'm busy going through 20+ pages just to find it. I think indexing relevant updates and progress will help immensly. BP's thread, F.I.'s exhaust and turbo thread, everyones build threads. It would be so easy to just click a link on the first page. Just my 2 cents. It's simple and organized. Threads are hard to structure because they are so fluid, I feel this is a good logical way to work around it.
Here is an example of what I did on my journal. Link in sig too if you want to check it out http://www.the370z.com/members/ss_fi...ex-example.png |
Here is what it looks like on the front page.

Good idea. I wasn't aware of this option.
Edit, I just realized that I have done something similar in my thread... It's just adding direct links within the post of the first page of your thread, right? |
Indeed. It just helps a lot. Especially if reviews are in the journal as well. It makes it a one stop shop to finding good info. I was using the permalink in the corner to pull the URL to use for links within the thread.

Very nice. Hell you can actually find something quickly. I've gone through 30 pages to find someone selling a part I needed and after awhile I quit. This would simplify the whole process.
+1 on the idea |
Great idea. :tiphat:

yah, sometimes i search something and i see a thread with 20+ pages and after reading every damn post, i dont find wat im looking for.
so i started using the iggylist indexing to scan the worthless posters to minimize future reading. :icon17: |
I already beat you to that with my Interior LED conversion DIY :)

Good idea OP. I've actually done one on all the regret threats when everybody had regret fever on this board. It didn't turn out to be very helpful to the forum members tho but was VERY helpful for the forum mods to quickly lock down all the regret threads that has been indexed.:happydance:
Or there is this smart kid() who invented a "Spoiler" thread that we can mimic.:icon17: |

I've been indexing my journal for a while. Not necessarily all the subtopics, but just quick links to parts installs/reviews from the front page. Link below in sig.

Regarding making a how to guide, I think there is a lot of room for interpretation on how to implement it. I'm really just creating hyperlinks of posts or threads. I think it's too easy to really make a how to guide. I think the only thing I had to think about was how to customize the hyperlinks which I just did each one separately. Lastly I definitely do not lay claim that I came up with the idea. With journals, we as members really take ownership and want to make the experience of reading through it appealing. Until my Wife builds me a blog site, it's really the only way to organize my progress publicly. I think vendors and their threads take ownership very much the same as we do our journals. Spending just a bit of time laying down the index foundation will help potential buyers, like me find the information we are looking for. I don't like answering the same question over and over. I'm sure it will still happen, maybe less frequently. Updated order lists, group buys, significant updates, pricing, pictures, videos... |

It's not how easy it is, it's if it will it help others. I'm guessing that a LOT of ppl on here don't know how to insert a link or how to find the link to a specific post. And it doesn't have to be your idea - just give credit where credit is due. Although I get the impression that you independently "discovered" this. |
