I just gave the car back to BMW today to detail since I took it home the first night without a proper take home wash and wax, so initially my first thoughts are...

Pulls very decently. Smooth trans (AT). It's a lot quieter (by my aging ears), takes the many potholes and rough roads a lot smoother then the Z. It's nice to have a back seat again, even if I can't fit normal sized adults in there for more then quick jaunts. I have a TRUNK, and a big one at that. Only been able to drive it probably 2 hrs in the less then 24 I had it.

The bad, or perceived bad...

It's not a Z. The Z is a special kind of car. The stereo is very non-standard, so my Kenwood DNX9990 or whatever it is won't fit. There are too many bells and whistles I need to figure out, but once I do I'm sure it will enhance my comfort or convenience.

That's it so far. Like this site was, I have a lot of reading and questions to search out before I begin to mod the car. BMW wanted $495 to tint the car, I thought that was a little much to be honest.

Thanks! Enjoy your new ride

Lmao...youll be back in no time to the z, those bemmers are like a gentle fairy car, just shifting it makes me feel like ill brake the knob off, plus they brake too quick, its a fact. My friend had a 135i n55 engine or n54 the one with a single twinscroll turbo so he jb4-ed it + intake + intercooler+ downpipe+ tune. Drove nice but not Z nice. I think it was at 17 psi boost anywhoo out of about 24k miles he had that boost for about 800 miles and then the car just broke down, clutch went, problems starting the car wiers burning, bolts dropping out i mean we took it apart and put it together like 6 times to make sure that everything is bolted right and all, still new things kept going wrong. In the end he whent out and bought '13 black Z happy as a pervert in a ladies dressing room in a stock car. So if you wanna go there we will be waiting for you back here:tiphat:

So BMW's have faulty knobs?

What is braking to soon? I'm so confused there.

The rest of it, from what was barely legible... Just sounds like your friend doesn't know how to mod and screwed a lot of shyt up himself..

I know the TT N54 was unreliable. But the N55 TSST??? There's a lot of holes in this. I'm far from a Bimmer fan but... There's a lot off here.

you should get the M series !!!! however, good luck hope to see you bounce back to Z again with 2013 Nismo or 2013 with AMS kit because it is very different scenario between driving Z compare to BMW 3.

Good luck with a Bimmer, bro. You do realize that they have atrocious reliability ratings and are insanely expensive to service, right? FYI, brake job per axle at BMW dealer is $1,200. Waterpump replacement = $1,200. Run-Flat tires=$450 a piece. Oil change=$150, etc., etc.

Montez 03-19-2013 04:59 PM

If I were to do that I would have looked for an 11 335is (kinda pricey though), as you get some M stuff with that. You get that dual clutch tranny, better suspension, more power and the 6 or 7 sec extra power boost unique to the is that takes torque up to 370 lb-ft is amazing.

have fun with the n55 engine! My friend has a n54 and he says the n55 are much more reliable and therefore still used in current models.

I dunno- the N54 is a pretty stout engine. Forged internals- problems are very rare with the engine itself even with high (15+) psi of boost.

The platform does have other issues though.

-High pressure fuel pump failures (recalled)
-water pump replacements (electrical unit that stays on to cool the turbos after the engine is turned off, wear and tear item, 60k miles est)
-carbon build-up (estimate a walnut shell blasting every 50k miles)
- turbo wastegate rattle (bmw warranty covered to 120k miles)

In my opinion, it's an excellent engine, but be prepared to pay for the maintenance. I'd personally take the n54 over the n55 any day.
