I picked up a brochure while in Japan and noticed there was a remote start option. Do we have the same in the US?

You have checks for it to start:
-Car must be in neutral
-Hood must be closed
-And I believe there is a third one, possibly e-brake on but not sure.


For the OP, this was brought up in 09. A guy tried/looked into it, the issue was those keys are programmed for the Japan ECUs and would not link up with the US ones.

there are 1000 aftermarket remote start options are there not? pick one of those up if you are that set on it.

True but there's something about it being OEM that I like. Regardless, I wouldn't do it because I'm so used to keeping my car in gear while its off.

I wasn't being serious. I hope you weren't either. I certainly hope no one would leave a manual parked in neutral.

It's called a clutch canceler or something like that. Not sure how it works.

Check your tag on the door seal it should say "Made in Japan"

Yes I know that. I was referring to the fact that they get more options that I know people over here would love to take advantage of.

Same for me, I leave it in gear generally if I'm on level ground. I had a viper alarm installed and I debated getting remote start but decided against it. I like being in the car when the engine turns over anyways:tup:

On a level surface with the e-brake engaged, absolutely nothing. Having said that, I both engage the e-brake and leave the car in gear regardless of parking conditions.

I would never ever consider parking a manual in neutral with just the handbrake on. The handbrake is a very small item holding a lot of lbs. That was one of the first things taught to me when I learned to drive. I was taught to first put the car in neutral, pull the handbrake, then put the car in 1st or reverse depending on uphill or down, then turn the car off. That way the car is not resting on the transmission, but being in gear is a back up if the handbrake failed or wasn't fully engaged.

I used to park just e-brake in my mustang, till it rolled down my parents driveway into the street...:ugh2:
