Car wont start.

Please tell me this isnt that damn steering lock issue...
The inteli key indicator light is solid ON while the car is off. I press the ignition and the ignition light stays on LOCKED. I was thinking it was a low battery in my key fob so I tried my second one with the same result. Could it possibly be both my batteries need replacing? or does this sound exactly like the effing steering lock issue.

Yeah yeah I know you told me to pull the brownie.

icedog2g 03-05-2013 03:41 PM

Sounds like steering lock if you don't hear the whine sound from the lock. What year is your Z? and the model on the lock A, B, C, or D?

Garrett63 03-05-2013 03:44 PM

its a 40th. built Jan 2010 so its a strong possibility. I dont hear any sounds. It's like im pushing a button on my keyboard when my computer is off when Im trying to start the car

I'm afraid you've been bit. :(
Try beating on the damn thing and see if you can get it unstuck (you can find DIYs on this site; the link in my sig is a good place to start). Then, without turning the car off, pull the brownie or cut the fuse.

Garrett63 03-05-2013 03:50 PM

Sucks that my car got stuck at work which is 20 minutes away from my house in my work parking lot. friggen embarrassing. I'm able to move my steering wheel from left to right a couple inches so im not sure what is actually stuck. My brakes wont engage. all so strange.

icedog2g 03-05-2013 03:52 PM

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's the steering lock sorry. Don't feel bad I haven't pulled mine either because of extended warranty. I have June 2010 build and the last C revision lock so maybe I might get lucky but I doubt it down the line.

xxAGAVExx 03-05-2013 03:55 PM

Did u try to start it with your fob in the holder to the left of the steering wheel?

I was planning to pull the fuse this weekend when I was going to install my new intake. just bad luck. What about rental car? how long does something like this take to fix normally?

They pay for EVERYTHING, rental, tow, and maybe a handy, LOL
It'll take 1-3 days counting today

(May I suggest buying an extended warranty now? Lol)

Warranty, WARRANTY!!! LOL

If your guys' CSC goes out even ONCE in the rest of your ownership of the car, the warranty pretty much has paid for itself

Garrett63 03-05-2013 06:59 PM

Good news! Thank you to kenchan's post on this issue. The tap trick worked like a friggen charm! just on here to print out the instructions to pull that damn fuse. Thank you everybody. sorry to the folks waiting on the warranty information.

raymondo510 03-05-2013 11:30 PM

Sorry to hear about it, this just happen to me last week. I have an extended warranty but supposedly they wouldn't cover this issue because they only cover certain fuses -_- So I called Nissan support and filed a case with them because I've heard of people being reimburssed through them, and no luck ;(.. They said they wouldn't cover it because my manufacture warranty was up unless there was a recall. So now im gonna try to file for a recall, but until there has been enough complaints Nissan won't do anything

You need a new dealership...
Or the warranty you bought isn't the factory warranty?

In any case, 99% of the time you can hit the steering lock until it allows you to start the car

XiP 03-06-2013 12:02 AM

sry for being off topic but your avatar is cute XD

Well I already replaced it so I guess its too late for pounding on it, and when I bought the car it was still under manufactures warranty but was not anymore at the time that it happened. I do have an extended warranty but its not through Nissan it was through a different company and according to my dealer rep he said it that they only covered certain fuse problems and that was no one of them.

I'm certainly not against the idea and would like to urge the admins/mods to put it into effect, but, in their defense, they have already stickied several SLU-related threads.

Help spread the word. You can post warnings on the fan sites for 370Zs and other affected Nissan models. Then there's Facebook (several members, myself included have posted about SLU failure on Nissan's FB page), Twitter, and their other social networking sites. Not only will you be helping other drivers, but maybe the bad publicity will encourage Nissan to do something about it.

I need to do mine but its too cold. I still got factory warranty and its a 2011 so fingers crossed it will last a month

I've been on twitter everyday for the last week complaining to nissan about the slu. If u go on nissans Facebook page u will see about 2 new people a day with slu failure, a lot of them lately have been altima's. the more it's voiced online and the more bad publicity they get, the better chances they will do a voluntary recall.

Gah dammit im trying to pull the damn fuse today and I cant get the fuse box out. I removed all the necessary parts to make room for it to come out but after I unlock the 2 clips on the fuse box to pull it out its snagged. It feels like wires are attached to the bottom of the box that are short holding it down. Am I missing a clip on the fuse box itself?

That's what it felt like when I tried pulling the box out from my Z. Just pull the box up and when it feels like it's snagging, pull up harder and it should free up and pull out. And, of course, make sure that the clips are fully disengaged.

R0bDC 03-06-2013 01:45 PM

I really wished I would've beat the crap out of the box, I just tap it a few times.

forza370z 03-06-2013 01:59 PM

Here is a video on youtube might help little bit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=/4iL5ED-iITU

As in the pix, I just pull out the fuse box and there are two tabs at the bottom of the fusebox. Push the tabs down and hold them then try to open the box. You don't have to open the box completely to pull the fuse. Just open it slightly like I did shown in the pix. Good luck.

The big harness/cable that enters the bottom of the IPDM is probably hanging up. I was able to reach around the IPDM (toward the passenger compartment) and guide the harness around a corner, but I'm a small guy. If you can't get your arm in there, a wood dowel or other soft material should work.
