370z GAS CAP LOCK question !

does anyone have this product for their car, because i know with the OEM gas cap, you have to turn it until you hear 1 click to close it and if you dont make it click, your dash board will show it as not closed properly and yuor maintenance light goes on as well.

so i was wondering if anyone has this cap or a different one because i dont want the light coming on.

:ugh2: really why not just make it click and then you will know there will be no issues???? The click is there by design

What is your goal here? Are you looking for a cap that is easier to seal or a locking cap? (No real need for a locking cap as the fuel door locks already.)

Haboob 03-03-2013 12:05 AM

He wants to use a locking cap, but doesn't know if they seal like the OEM ones when they click.

At least I hope that's what he's wanting, lol. I had something like what you guys said typed up and then I re-read it and was like, "Hmm, maybe I am wrong for once."

Z11 03-03-2013 09:47 PM

haboob is right, i want the locking key cap, but i saw a video on youtube by nissan on fuel caps stating if it doesnt click it means you havent closed your cap properly and the maintenance light comes on the dash.

i bought my car brand new and the fuel door lock is malfunctioning, and im worried about the warranty, it says you have to do the maintenance checks every 3 months or by km, 3K-6K-9K intervals and so on. i doubt everyone does it every 3 months and ive only done it once since i bought it. and i dont do my checks at nissan b/c they rip you off and there fkn idiots from what ive noticed from my awful experience. so i dont know what theyll say about fixing it.

i havent bought the key lock cap because i dont want to waste 50$+ once i buy it and it doesnt work, thats why i wanted to see if anyone has one already

The dealer should replace it for free if it doesn't hold pressure

And Candian Tire should have a replacements too

FYI, regarding locking caps. If you do get it sorted, the door doesn't open when the car is locked (at least on mine, I assume on all), so no need for a locking cap really.

SouthArk370Z 03-03-2013 10:08 PM

Since the 370Z has a locking fuel door, I'm guessing very few owners buy locking gas caps and you're not going to get any first-hand opinions.

I'd call the store you want to buy from and ask them if it is a "factory-spec cap with the click."

"i bought my car brand new and the fuel door lock is malfunctioning"

Z11 03-04-2013 05:49 PM

i guess no one has one..

JMac88 03-04-2013 05:55 PM

If its warranty its warranty.... they cannot deny you warranty on your fuel door because you don't get your oil changes with them

Z11 03-04-2013 07:11 PM

but what if they ask me if ive gotten my car serviced every 3months or 3000km intervals like it says in one of the booklets?

car was bought in april 2012, so its only been 11 months.

do you HAVE to get your car serviced every 3 months? and if you dont, does it void the warranty?

MarkGideon 03-04-2013 07:17 PM

I MAY have overlooked it, even though I have actually read through the manual several times, but not once did I see any reference to a 3 month/3,000 mile service interval for the fuel filler door.

I think you will be good.

Simple answer is NO! & NO!

Those are recommendations, not requirements. There is absolutely no set limits on service intervals. That booklet is just a guide. Secondly, service has nothing to do with the gas cap. Thirdly, the warranty can only be voided if Nissan finds that a particular part has been tampered with. Your warranty on the engine cannot be voided if you install custom suspension for example.

Z11 03-04-2013 07:25 PM

im from ontario, canada. our manuals are different, i think?

i cant check to see which booklet and the title of it. but i received 3 booklets when i purchased my car.

i hope so too

i know your from the states, and not sure if those rules are the same as in canada, but to me it makes total sense. its just that i personally know 3 people with new cars and they follow those service intervals, but i also know one guy that doesnt (but hes cheap). so i wasnt sure whether it was required or recommended.

thanks alot for all the helpful comments, i feel a bit better.

You should keep records of services you do personally. It's enough to satisfy any warranty work. Keep all your receipts for oil changes for example.

Z11 03-04-2013 07:55 PM

since april 2012, ive serviced it once, and its under 7000 kms right now. and i have the receipt/record. thanks again

FYI -- I had the same issue on my 2013 -- actuator that was suppoused to lock the door was nonfunctional. It was replaced under warranty, no question, no charge.
