Coupe vs Roadster

With warmer weather not far away, I'm starting to get the itch to trade my coupe in for a Roadster. So far I have owned both. The Roadster was a '07 350Z and my current is an '09 370Z Coupe. Not sure if I should make the trade. My 370 runs great especially after the steering lock problem was fixed. I know I can't afford a new 370Z Roadster so I would probably have to go back and consider an '07 or '08 350Z Roadster. I know this is personal preference but what's your thought?

DEpointfive0 02-26-2013 02:06 PM

No...
If you can afford a 09 370Z roadster, ok

Mitco39 02-26-2013 02:09 PM

I personally prefer the hatchback, that long trunk on the roadster just looks weird to me. But each to their own.

Agree....I like the looks of the 370Z more than the 350Z anyway!

Quick370z 02-26-2013 02:24 PM

Was in the same boat as you, I had an 06 350z roadster (Daytona Blue) loved the car, so enjoyable to drive if you have the weather etc.

Then bought a 370z Red Roadster (2010) it died on me, got a replacement coupe though now like you. I am modding mine up - its a fun car still, Coupe does look better then roadster but roadster has so much enjoyment when the sun is out.

I say if you want get it - I never regretted mine..(just died oil consumption issue)

Thanks...that's always been my dilemma! Always liked the looks of the Coupe more than the Roadster but when your driving it, you forget about the exterior and just want to enjoy the interior...with the top down.

Ahhhhh....you're making this a very hard decision. :tiphat:

TripleBlkZ 02-26-2013 03:26 PM

I love my roadster when it's on the road.

Unsure if you are planning to store it though winter months then its a ~8 months nice car to drive and ~4 months nice car to look at parked. If you can live with that roadster all the way.

If I was going to track the car or wanted it 12 months out of the year it would be a coupe and a nismo.

I wouldn't go back to a 350z roadster just for the sake of a roadster, you can get a good priced coupe and mod the hell out of it over time.

isayimandrew 02-26-2013 03:41 PM

I would stick with the coupe. I like convertibles but the 370z roadster doesnt look right... just my opinion though. If the 370Z came with a Targa top (OME designed not aftermarket) i would have definitely considered that.

bvl 02-26-2013 05:44 PM

Nissan did a good job improving the looks of the roadster from 350 to 370. The 370 is fairly well integrated end to end. The tonneau is excellent and the lines flow well. With the top up the overall look of the Z is still there (not as great as the coupe...but decent: this is where a lot of vert's fail in that their top up look is just not good. Ref: 350z :D)

We have the roadster as it replaced the previous convertible. Its the trade off you make, its not as great as the coupe with the top up...but put the top down and you forget about those things.

Biggest downside is its heavier of course. Again, trade offs for top down.

Which would you rather wreck? I rather roll my coupe.

Ziggyman 02-26-2013 06:36 PM

How about just getting an old bar of soap Miata MY 2000 or so. $6-$7K and you have both. There is one in E. Windsor CT.

danegrey 02-26-2013 06:47 PM

my 2 cents its the coupe, just do not think the conv looks right...
now there are other conv that I consider before deciding on the Z.....
But I have always liked the Z coupe through the years

nmjaxx9 02-26-2013 08:50 PM

Coupe all day, keep it, hard top > soft top anyday. :icon17:

Mental note: avoid driving around Z's in San Diego...prone to flipping. Weird. :driving:

Now THAT'S an idea except that means that I would have 2 cars I couldn't drive in the snow! BTW....Ziggy, how did you know about E. Windsor?

speedracer007 02-27-2013 11:53 AM

You live in Connecticut. I USED to live in Connecticut.

Come on, you know you are going to get dumped on with at least 12" of snow at least one more time!!!!! :roflpuke2:

Lol......don't burst my bubble! You know how it is here! This time of year we are so sick of snow, we tend to get delusional and think it's going to be 80 degress any day now. I have ex-relatives that now live in AL originally from CT and Maine. They finally got out of Dodge for the warmer weather. Just have to watch out for the tornados in AL. I'm thinking more like Arizona.

Hey Ziggy, I checked out that Miata. 91K miles. I wonder why they don't have a pic of it....hmmmm! They're asking a few hundred more than KBB even in excellent condition. Nice idea though! I wonder how it is in snow. I could use that for my DD :bowrofl:

UNKNOWN_370 02-27-2013 02:58 PM

350z vert, performance wise, was a POS... The 370z vert is leagues better. That said, I think Z verts in general, look awkward.

ezred 02-27-2013 04:56 PM

Roadster...

After riding motorcycles for 15 years, had to have a roadster...I'm used to parking my toy for 5 months per year...

I see people driving these with winter tires all the time on 128. I have not driven one in the snow but a couple of sand tubes in the trunk and off you go! :driving:

all i say is HUGE antenna right in the middle of the back :shakes head:

TonySlimfast 02-28-2013 12:04 PM

love my vert, drop the top twice a day, Dropped on coilovers and its a daily driver, MUST have the SmartTop Chip. 370z roadster definately looks a LOT better lowered.

I hear ya! You would think that some genius would come with a better solution than that for radio reception.

Ubetit 03-01-2013 10:01 AM

Convertible for me. I don't think i've ever driven my car with the top up. The top is always down when it's not in storage. I'd store a coupe for winter too so for me that doesn't factor in the decision.

Leuz 03-01-2013 11:30 AM

Personally I think the 370Z convertible looks very good with the top down, when it's time to put it up.... :wtf2:

gr8-wrx 03-02-2013 08:02 AM

I have a DD (Frontier), so I decided if I was going to go impractical, I would go impractical all the way and got the ZR. This is coming from a Dad with 2 kids still in elementary school.

If I may, there wasn't a 2009 370Z roadster available that year. They only began production in 2010.

alcheng 03-02-2013 04:00 PM

Don't go back to the 350z.

The 370z is a much better car overall.

I had the 350z roadster and now the 370z roadster.

Lol, this is true, I just mean that if the OP can afford a more used 370Z roadster, cool, no problem, but going back to a 350... Pass
