LMAO'd at the Audi dealershit (370Z steering lock failure)
*This is just a story, nothing ground breaking or really amusing, just an experience I had with the dealer/sales person*
So, I'm looking for an Audi Q5 for my brother (don't ask why, he just wants it and his gf really likes it, and he can sure as hell afford it) I go on a test drive and as we're leaving the sales guy asked if that was my 370Z, and I told him that in fact it was my car. He then said that he liked it a lot, and I thanked him, and he told me that HE has a 2009 that is completely stock. That made me happy to hear. I asked if he was on the forum, and he said that he wasn't on it... While we were on the test drive I asked him if he had any problems and he said the only problem he had was that the key stopped working... And that the dealership said that it was a common '09 problem... Which I then went  When I asked him how much it cost to fix, he said that it was out of the 3/36k warranty but his extended warranty covered it and it wasn't a cheap fix. THEN I  and figured it out and was like "OHHHHHHH, you mean steering lock failure!!! Yeah that's a $1400-ish dollar fix" and I LMAO'd I then told him that the forum is a wealth of info and the next main issue (especially with the M6) is the CSC failure. He also asked me about exhausts and intakes (recommended the G3, and told him to come to a meet to hear the exhausts [different strokes for different folks], but I said that FI is probably the highest rated, just depends if you have the time and $$$) hopefully he'll join the forum and we'll have a new member to welcome! As for the Q5, it's an OK car, I guess... I drove the Prestige 3.0L Supercharged S-line with nav. Acceleration was ok, handling wasn't bad either, BUT driving it in Sport mode made it a completely different beast, MUCH better pedal feel, better handling as well. And unlike most other small SUVs, it didn't really have any blind spot per se. Biggest complaint, brakes sucked, and the interior was ok, just weirdly designed... Like why do you need TWO SD card slots?!?!?! And why are the radio controls where the shifter is? And the S-line has "sportier seats" with "bolsters" LOL... But the problem is that the left seat áss bolster on EVERY car whether it was the Q5, Q7, TT-RS, and even the R8, had SEVERE wrinkles and wear even though the cars had 10~ miles. HUGE turn off for me. I was also happy that everyone at the dealer KNEW that Audi doesn't make a reliable car, and 2 of the guys laughed when I said, there is no chance in hell I'd BUY a Nazi sled (As I left I found out the sales manager was Jewish, and THAT'S why he laughed his áss off) |
German cars are great under warranty, when it's over be prepared to pay. It remains to be seen if the latest DI engines from the VAG get carbon build up on the intake valves like the previous 2.0 turbo, 3.2 V6 and the 4.2 motors.

I like to say that BMWs are "The Ultimate Drivng Machine" for maybe 50 thousand miles... :roflpuke2: The last German car we had was a VW Passat 2.0L turbo and it went through like 3 water pumps and 1 turbo in the 3 years we had it, and it overheated 3 times when the water pump gave out, LOL (lease, THANK GOD) And the other car we currently have is a 328i Coupe, and that ALSO has some issues, the engine makes a weird clunking noise (thankfully it's also a lease and goes back to the dealershit in a week or two) |
Yes, I also forgot about the fuel pump cam follower on the 2.0 T failing quite a bit across all the brands. Your right, the German engineers must have met with the bean counters and designed things to fail right near the end of the warranty period.

hopefully he joins. This forum has helped me out numerous times

Fun story, thanks for sharing. I like "nazi sled" comment.

Salesguy know that the steering lock is designed by a German company?
|
lol... I'm so going to use "Nazi Sled" on my friend who's thinking of buying the S5 (he has a C6 now)
|
Ask your bud if that S5 comes with a carbon cleaning, cause they all get gunked up over time. Pretty pathetic for a 65k car.

NAZI SLED! lol |
People driving Japanese cars should not bring out WW2 terminology. Maybe a few of you did not do well in history class last semester.
|
I think people who can't afford a BMW or Audi should not make fun and try and make seem like the car is junk! I know BMWS with well over 200K miles and Audi's!
Like any car, you have to keep it up and it will last you a long time! |
Audis for me have been incredibly reliable? I have owned two. Put nearly 100 k on both with no problems? Have had way more problems with my Z's than Audi.

Yeah old Mercs are hitting 400k miles all the time, and diesels 1million miles. Even Mercedes ADMITTED their quality went down (around 2006~) and they said they'd lower their profits from 3 billion to 1 billion to bring the quality back to the brand. |

And Audi I believe is THE LEAST car manufacturer around. Google top 10 reliable cars, or least unreliable cars, and I'll bet $100 that it's a mix between German and English cars |
