Sorry... But GTFO... This bitch has left me stranded and it wasn't a steering lock issue

SteveBad 02-15-2013 06:41 PM

Nothin' wrong with the car.... But JD Power?

They make up categories that their client's cars will fit. Virtually every one of their different customer's cars has a "best" award...........

"Voted best sports car with a 3.7 liter engine and a Z in it's name"

"Voted best car that doesn't come in the color chartreuse"

etc etc etc.............

SS_Firehawk 02-15-2013 06:42 PM

This is the first time I seen a Z in any JD award actually.

UNKNOWN_370 02-15-2013 07:32 PM

Is there a reason all the cars are from 2010?

but yeah, the z is really dependable. I'm glad to see the camaro as well. I was struggling between buying a Camaro and a Z initially. lol

was it a VDC-off issue?

Lag for establishing reliability.

I always laugh at their classes. The Z topped out a class that consisted of it, an e-class, and the Volvo c70. :|

Never mind their statistically inept method of establishing reliability.

Lol, it's a sports car, tranny gone at <30k... Joke right?
My 01 Avalon had a MUCH harder life, and it's still kicking

enkei2k 02-15-2013 11:46 PM

In that link, they mention it's 2010...yet why do they show a CY 370Z? I thought that was only available on the 2009 MY

Nice to read this and no surprise. My model year 12 GTI on the other hand just received a new motor LOL!!!
The Z is a great car overall. Yep we report issues here. Thats the problem with online forums the issues are magnified beyond reality. We have a couple big ones; Steering Lock, CSC etc but taken in context this car is reliable.
Surf other forums and you will find the same. Nothing is perfect if touched by our wonderful human hands lol!!

shadoquad 02-16-2013 01:23 AM

Zero issues here. All models have clunkers and single examples that last forever. Every car is built differently from the others on the line, and all lead different lives with their owners.

So far so good for me, but I also don't put stock in jd power

SurfDog 02-16-2013 02:30 AM

Suck it Mercedes!
Yay us! Boo them! lol

(I pulled my fuse anyway, you know... Just in case)

Mt Tam I am 02-16-2013 09:28 AM

2012 vs 2009 seems like a whole new car.

So, if the 2010 was rated as being "so reliable", then is your car less reliable in 2012? :bowrofl:

edub370 02-16-2013 09:45 AM

My new tranny at 20k disagrees...

Well.. I guess other that that, i haven't had any problems

I don't know if I take the word of a tranny. I mean, they're lying up front by their nature, how they're dressed.

Oh, your transmission. right.

6MT 02-16-2013 09:47 AM

I have to agree with the article. After 3 plus years of ownership I never had any issues with mine. Maybe I'm lucky?

Well...mine was very reliable!

my2004Z 02-16-2013 10:25 AM

If I remember correctly the 2009 370Z won the JD Power Best Initial Quality for a Sporty Coupe award. I think the category is specific enough but not tailored just to let the Z win. My 2009 370Z 7AT w/ Sport Package has had zero failures beyond what can be considered wear and tear. These are street cars with some track capability so when you flog the car pretending to be on a track you can expect to have to replace some key parts.

I always crack up at folks that buy a Z and then complain that its not what they really wanted and then emphasize the very few bad things they have encountered and bash the very car they drive. For Batman's sake go buy domestic and then see what level of quality you get. Damn... :stirthepot:

He said a domestic. Wasn't your tranny manufactured and put together in China?

*obvious troll post*

I think Nissan is rated below average as far as reliability goes. My car is not terrible, but I don't think it is perfect either. My gas tank broke at like 12K miles. My transmission/clutch bearings make more noise than my hybrid cars. Of course there is also the steering lock at 22K. Oh yeah, now I have a random TPMS light that goes on and off.

I do have to say surprisingly the car is rattle free, I can't say the same about my Lexus.

SS_Firehawk 02-16-2013 12:09 PM

Any issues I had with mine were self inflicted. Anything I found issue with, I replaced haha. But I've had no power steering issues, no CSC issues, no transmission issues, no motor issues, no starting issues, only a false positive TPMS that decides to blink every few months. I only have 10k miles though.

Lol, I agree with the first part
Second part, not so much, the ISF I have doesn't make a damn sound, and it gets beaten as hard, if not harder than the 370Z. And my mom's '08 ES350 is great too...
Now, sorry to go off topic, and tip for Cossie1600; the thing that plagues EVERY Lexus is the subwoofer, doesn't matter if it's the Mark Levinson or base... And THAT rattles... BUT, it is a free warranty fix, which the ISF and ES have gone through, and now no problems at all!

I wish I can say the same. My door still rattles and they put two weeks of time in it. I do have to say they did give me the same exact car to drive as a loaner. If Nissan gives out loaner, they will probably give me a Versa for my Z...

I don't have ML on mine, but I do have the so-called optional 10 speaker system. It sucks almost as much as my base Z. I don't think there is a sub because there is no bass!!!

TheW3r3W0lf 02-18-2013 08:29 PM

What is truly unreliable is JD Powers themselves. They are notorious for being easy to convince to give your company recognition with a little green.

As for Nissan, overall they are good machines. Every manufacturer has its issues and there are many factors to how reliable your vehicle will be. I have often found most of the problems with reliability often lie somewhere between steering wheel and driver's seat. :driving:
