Any NEW ideas for the Dummy Switches in the Sport Package?
I'm still looking for something to replace the awful dummy switches in my 2013 370 w/sport pkg. I'm thinking a USB port for one but still not sure about the others.... Also, Has anyone seen a console replacement with 2 cup holders?

on my Z, im using some oem style rockers a member here found. check the interior section.
one for interior lamp, one for dvd bypass, one for rear fog. not sure if you want to put a usb port facing up. one spill or drop of water and your fuse will blow. |
i think the guy's name was ML. i cant remember, it's been a while since i installed those....
|
I had a hell of a time finding a USB port that I can properly wire to handle 12V and at least 2.3 amps :shakes head: I pretty much have given up at this point :ugh2:
But yes, I would putting them face up. Who allows food and beverage in their Z anyway? :icon17: A fuse is cheap to replace  |

Really do wish there was a USB port on this car, one that I wouldn't had to have paid $6k extra to get.
Guess I'm going to have to wait until I can get a 2DIN HU compatible with the iPhone 5. There's this option for the dummy slots, which I'll be doing soon I think. Getting annoyed with my radar detector cord blocking my clock... |
here we go, this is the one i use in my car as far as usb charging doc. it's super low profile.

Just an FYI.... I got one of these from BBY. Works for all small electronics (Phone, MP3 etc)... does NOT work for an iPad... |

Most of those are good for charging small PEDs, but I have a couple of devices that require USB power to run (like a small external hard drive). I need MOAR POWAH! :icon17:

We went from the best performance value in 09, to one of the worst buys right now for the money. not because z's are bad now in performance or reliability... It's still a high performing, reliable sports car... But by 2012, so many cars caught up in the driving excitement department and also found ways to massively upgrade their cars features and interiors along with improved performance. We basically have new front, shocks and redesigned wheels. Oh and red paint on the brakes. Whoopyyyyyy!!! Yet prices strangely have gone up slightly over $3,000. I'm glad I bought a Z in 2011. Current Z prices today are laughable. 2011 was bordering ridiculous but I dealed $3,000 off my car. wish I hadn't wrecked my 09... That was an even better deal. |
Instead of replacing the dummy switches with functional ones I'd like to replace that trim piece with a shallow coin/misc item holder. Has anyone thought about fabricating something up to fit in that area? Does that trim piece with the dummy switches come out by itself?
|
Dummy switches
1. Nitrous switches. (Make sure you also buy nitrous kit.) :icon17: 2. You can convert your base seats to have heated seating. 3.install a forward or bottom foglight/LED light kit and put the switches 4. You can rig an oil slick if you get chased by police... slip and slide party? lol 5. Switches for forward mounted guns 6. Add switch for radar to track EC2's with that satellite tracking chit and frogmen. |

Ive seen someone on the forum putting a couple of switches inside the cubby of the armrest. Looked pretty cool, very low profile, and had much more than 3 switches. Ive also seen(for base models only) someone put the 12v outlet in the the dummy button where the rev match button is located. You can prob find that one on the DIY section. |

then there are screws on the bottom for the switch trim. |

Maybe install a subwoofer kill switch for the coppers?

Or maybe fab up a smartphone dock there, like something you could plug your iPhone into where it's already hooked up to the HU.

I installed a base control knob for a subwoofer in one of mine... it'll help if you install a subwoofer too :)

How about a switch for the rear hatch?
Most cars have it so why not a switch for the rear hatch. Should be easy to find the circuit. Just a thought.
|
yeah that's always irked me that I can't hit a button and pop the hatch for my wife when she wants to put something in there.

Just kidding, I had looked into this, but I was told that the wiring would be complicated. Actually, I had looked into replacing the blank button for the non-sports-package Z where S mode would normally be engaged. |

I had looked into this, but I was told that the wiring would be complicated.[/QUOTE] I'm guessing that all you would need to do is use the switch to complete a ground from the actuator. Simple, really....... Easy enough to test if that would work. I did the same thing to turn on the radiator fans on my Vette. |

I'm not at all experienced in wiring vehicles, but I was going off of what a reputable shop had told me concerning the install. |
I may have to look into this while my interior is disassembled this spring.... I would like to wire a remote release into the trunk switch too!

^ The G37's have the circuit.
