Why I did not buy a Z this weekend...
Almost everything I've read about the 370 is positive, so I was really excited when I visited a local dealership this weekend. Unfortunately, I'm too tall to fit in this car...
My head hits the headliner, I'm only 6' 3" WTF? I tried adjusting the seat to correct the problem, but no dice.. I guess I'll start looking at vettes. |
6' 3-4" here and I own a 370z and am fine.

If I sit with my butt against the very back of the seat and up straight my hand cannot slide over my head between the liner. What I do is slight my butt slightly forward just a bit, and my seat is also not really leaning back at all, more straight up which is what I prefer anyways.

6'5" have no problems. Go sit in a GTR the Z will feel huge with head room
|
The first time I drove a Z I was not 100% happy with how I fit, I went back a few days later and just sat there for five to ten minutes finding my perfect position if it was there. I found it, I will many times sit in my car and get out and back in again if I do not feel 100% right.

I'm 6'4" and I can fit in with a helmet on.
Out of curiosity are you sitting in a base or a touring? |

This one, It's a G-force Pro Eliminator something or other. It's SA2005 rated. I've also got a tinted visor for it so I don't have to deal with sunglasses in the helmet which gets old. |
Wow, you have give me new confidence in the fact I can track my car, and have a helmet on which I was worried I would not be able to.

Just noticed, to OP and AutoX are both in Houston, you guys need to make it out to some meets. :)

I'll give it one more try and see if I can find a better seating position. If not I'll resume my search with the corvette (probably I would purchase a used vette as opposed to a new 370z). |
It ain't just the height guys...it's "where" the height is. Not everyone is built the same; one 6'4" guy might fit and another 6'4" guy may not because legs and torso don't have to be equal for both just because the total height is the same. :)
However, if you think the Z is bad, the G27 coupe has almost 2" LESS headroom than the Z! |

i think you should try and drive that Z again. this time, play with the seat adjustments. if it still doesn't work out for you, i guess it's not meant to be.
|
Im 6 6 and had to drive bullittes Z to a window shop to have a rear hatch window installed. I never once thought I was too tall. Sitting in the car is one thing, getting out of it is a whole different story though...
Were you sitting on a phone book? Maybe yellow pages? Dex knows... |

Go sit in a Base model with the cloth seats.
My co driver (350Z) did not fit in the touring 350 that he wanted to buy. But my 03 Track worked fine for him. Even room for the helmet. K |

I've had to adjust how I sit in the car...
For example, the steering wheel as my guide, I sit a lot closer to the dash/wheel overall. The angle of my seat is pretty much what I adjust a little here and there, but I keep it to where I am comfortable WITHOUT having my head on the whiplash thing - just in front of it... Then I adjust the passenger seat so that I can see out the side window and the portal...their comfort is insignificant! I also have the mirrors adjusted all the way out on both sides. This combination seems to minimize the blind spots too. It's harder for me to get in/out (6'0", 285lbs), but, I manage better than I thought. Getting in, I tend to hit/rub my head on the liner...still working on that - lol... |
Again Im 6 6. Love the car. But when people see me get out of 2 door coups they then look for the cameras. I look like a clown getting out of cars ha.
|
I'm 6'4" and I don't have any problems. I have the seat all the way back and all the way down. I also lean the seat back quite a bit, but I have been driving like that for over 20 years. My head will only hit the liner when I lean my head back on the headrest with the lean, and that is because it sits where the roof beggins it's sharp down slope. I do want to track my car, so I will have to try it with a helmet.

I am not so sure the Z can make such a similar redesign move as the Mustang given that making the Z longer would be entirely the wrong design move to make. |
In some reviews I read that the z is not designed for people with heft.
6'3 to 6'4 is max. But if u have extra meat. Your backside may make u sit Higher. Also your center of gravity may not allow u to sit properly. Sometimes in these type of cars. You gotta buy an aftermarket seat To get your body in good. Recaro has great sports seats for heavier set guys. Don't know if this is your situation. But if it is? It might be better to buy a $900 seat than an extra $10k for a different car. Maybe? |
Don't actually own one (yet), but I've tested several times, and at 6'6" I've got headroom to spare, and no problem with legroom either.

I rented a vette in Florida last September. Luckily it was a convertible so I would just look over the windshield at red lights. With the top up, I would have to lean down to see under the visors!! If you want HUGE headroom, try a Boxster. Also the MB SLK55 AMG is pretty good too. My M35 is due for a service soon so I will get to try the 370Z. Good luck! |
