OH MY GOD - First UK cars are in showrooms and...

OH MY GOD!!!

I phoned my local dealer first thing this morning, because I'd heard the the first 370Z's are appearing in showrooms here in England. The woman who answered the phone told me they didn't have one, but that their High Performance Centre - 50 miles away - does have one. So, slightly annoyed because I could sense she was clueless, I said, "No love, I'm talking about the 370Z, not the GT-R." To cut a long story short, she passed me onto her colleague who apologised and said, "Yes, we do have a 370Z in the showroom!". Duhhhhhhhhh :icon23:

I immediately made up a story - told the wife I needed to go buy a tile cutter - and zoomed off to see the little beauty.

Well here we go...

OH MY GOD!!! That car is B E A U T I F U L!

I've been drooling over your pics on this forum for over six months now, but NOTHING - REPEAT NOTHING - prepared me for how different the 370 is from the 350z. Wow - and the more I looked at it the more I fell in love with it  Photos DO NOT DO JUSTICE TO THIS CAR'S BEAUTY.

That car is GORGEOUS - GORGEOUS - GORGEOUS

The model they have in the showroom is the lovely metallic grey, GT pack, auto trans (unfortunately)

The styling lines are lovely - especially the subtly sweeping curve from the door A-pillar along the bonnet to the headlight - W O W

The rear wheel arches are lovely, the general sweep of the side line is lovely, the squatness is lovely, the lowness, the wheels are so fine (and just the right size), the front and rear are so lovely, the cabin is really nice. The wing mirrors are SO much bigger - didn't realise this until today.

In the UK we get rear fog light, rear windscreen wiper, trunk cover thingy, electrically folding mirrors as standard.

I am having a test drive on Tuesday pm - and the sales guy is young/enthusiastic, so hopefully it will be a better experience than my last one at that place!

So, until I've driven the beast on Tuesday all I can say is that I walked out of the dealership, turned the corner, saw my BELOVED 350Z (that I was going to keep until I died) and it looked just a bit old and ordinary (sob sob, boo hoo).

oh - and I bought a tile cutter

ps - the salesman is being difficult about doing a deal, so he may lose a sale! He also said, "Don't suppose you'd want a GT-R, would you?" and I immediately told him not to be daft, but thinking about it - and knowing a bit about the GT-R - and seeing the Z - No, I actually would PREFER the 370Z over the GT-R :)

Congrats - maybe your long wait will be over !

Why do you guys get electrically folding mirrors standard? It's not even an option here, and it isn't on the upscale Infiniti G37 either. Is parking really tight over there? I can't imagine it would have anything to do with driving on the wrong side of the road.

The question is not, "Why do we get them?", but, "Why on earth don't YOU get them?" - I think they should be pretty much standard on a car of this price range.

Parking IS tight, due to the ridiculous width of parking bays these days - but all Z owners know that you park over in the far corner of the car park anyway.

...and as for driving on the wrong side of the road, being left-handed, it's totally natural for me to have my knob in my left hand :)

parking is super duper tight, cars park a bit on the side walk, when driving down the roads and you see a car coming towards you.
you'd have to pull in a spot or driveway to let the oncoming car pass.

That's not safe while driving, regardless of which side of the road you're on.

In Japan, a lot of the nicer Japanese cars had them. I don't know if the "cheapy" ones did. But the reason in Japan is because physical space is so scarce that they park cars in some very confined, tight spots. In the U.S., the idiotic drivers who retardedly misjudge spatial distances when driving, sideswipe your car by taking out your side mirror. I had this happen twice to my Accord, I was pissed. We need them in the U.S. too.

But yeah, TS, the 370 to some isn't gorgeous until they see it in person. It isn't photogenic to some. I thought it was drop-dead gorgeous when I first saw sneak peaks of it online last December. In person it's even better. There are angles and distances from where I stand to look at my 370 and think it's a little awkward looking, however. But the car is gorgeous to me, it looks like a voluptuous chick in a bikini from its rear fender wells. :tiphat:

Nice one Purist - I thought the smiley would have given it away.

As for you, edeeZee, from which angles do you think the Z looks a little awkward? I couldn't find any.

I'll do more of a write-up on Tuesday, after my first test drive.

Edit - just to prove I'm not lying...

The ridiculous thing is that they are trying to charge over £33,000 (more than $54,000) for this auto with satnav!!!! Ridiculous!

Just a little dull this Sunday morning in uptown Chicago. :icon17:

EDIT:
Maybe more like very dull, seeing how obvious it was... ugh...

One other off topic question. What is the deal with license plates in the UK? Do they stay with the car forever? I like to watch that show, "Wheelers Dealers", and whenever they buy a car they keep the same plates on it when they buy it and sell it. I also noticed that the Z you saw already has license plates on it, but it hasn't been sold yet.

Yes, the license plate stays with the car, unless you choose to buy a 'private plate', which has to be registered with the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency).

You can buy private plates direct from the DVLA (it's fun to go to their website and see how many rude/disgusting ones you can create and get approved). In case you're interested, here's the link - CLICK HERE

...or you can buy one of many existing private plates from one of many dealers - things like "GB 1" would sell for THOUSANDS of pounds. Personally I think they are a rip off. Here's another link - CLICK HERE

The car in the showroom is their demonstrator - possibly they have 'pre-registered' it and I suppose they will sell it 'cheaper' in a few months time, because it already has one owner.

Edit - The last dealer I bought from managed to get me a plate with a Z in it - nice dealer :)

edeeZee 07-12-2009 11:35 AM

When you stand close in front of it, maybe a foot away, and you look from its nose to the rear end...the 370 looks kind of "chubby" and sits a tad high. I'm aware that the 19"s attribute to this, thus the car needs to be lowered with maybe Eibachs or something.

But another awkward angle is when you look at its rear end at an angle, its *** looks kind of fat...damn, this is making me percieve a car as incarnate and sexual.

But for gorgeous angles, when you look squarely at its profile, from say, 10 meters away, IT'S ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! The nose actually looks long echoing the 240Z's silohuette. The 370 is so voluptuous.

chubbs 07-12-2009 11:44 AM

I think you're falling in love :)

But I agree - Eibachs must be a first mod.

phelan 07-12-2009 01:09 PM

^ :iagree:

but i still can't decide if i want to go w/ the eibach lowering springs or go straight for coilovers...
heck, still can't decide how often i'm going to take this car to the track! ><

There is only 1 plate needed these days and that's " CLARETS "

But here in Texas you only get 6 letters so it'll be " BRNLEY "

Chuffed to hear you enjoyed the wake. Now for a second wind, let us now how that test drive comes along.

By the way the car has an elevated and somewhat longer than normal nose when driving, it will take some getting use to .... when your down the country roads.

Have fun....... :)

C'MON YOU CLARETS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nahhh - You need a plate that says SPURS!

Do you mean that the front of the car is significantly longer/different to the 350z? I'll definitely be making a ton of notes during the test drive and reporting back. My one big worry is that the car I saw had no spare weel - just a tyre repair kit. This could be a deal breaker for me, although I suppose I'll have 4 spare LMGT4'S whan I sell the 350Z.

phelan 07-12-2009 01:49 PM

^ no donut?

chubbs 07-12-2009 01:57 PM

It's weird, because the brochure suggests that it should have one.

I'll be phoning the dealer I know tomorrow morning, to check.

nogoodname 07-12-2009 08:10 PM

just realized you got the gas cap on ur drivers side, i like that.....too lazy to run around... i like to come in, fill and bounce away....like a pit stop..

you guys also get the high pressure headlight washers...not an option here as well. Is rear view cam an option in the UK?

and I like that color as well, much darker than the Platinum Graphite we get here in the states

Now read this...

:shakes head:

It was defo Twilight Grey, Richie - but I agree, the lighting gives it a brownish twinge and the silver car behind it makes it look browner too. In real life it was greyer.

Yes, unfortunately we get the headlight washers, grrrr :shakes head:

I personally think those headlight washers are sick... no standard american car gets those!
You Europeans and your weird little accessories, hahah

Imagine this - you've just spent hours and hours on Sunday washing and waxing your beautiful black car. You took so long that it's starting to get dark. You decide to jump in the lovely shiny thing and go for a little spin. You turn on the headlights, pull out of the drive and you notice a little speck or smear on the windscreen, so you squirt the windscreen washer and........

....damn, those bl**dy headlamp washers spray crappy screenwash fluid all over your lovely ex-shiny bonnet.

Do you...

a. Say, "Thank the Lord for those very useful European gadgets that no American car is fortunate enough to have." or...

b. Say, "Damn the European legislation that forces our headlights to have those useless stupid things."

Oh my god!!! Yet another reason not to use Glyn Hopkin St Albans - they insisted it was not Titanium when I took the pics!! They even wanted to show me the titanium grey on the Nissan website to prove it wasn't that colour, because I was very doubtful myself. Eventually they convinced me it was the other grey. What a bunch of no-hopers.

Sorry to have misled you - If it's actually Tit Grey, I really like it! - and it IS very similar to the old gunmetal grey I used to have, but with a brownish tint. My dealer friend must have been very wrong too when he said that Titanium grey is very brown - because that car was NOT very brown.

Richie 07-15-2009 11:10 AM

useless arnt they! i like that colour in your pic but i dont want any brown or green or any shade but grey lol, so im going to stick with my order, let me know how it goes with your mate in nissan.. how long it will take to get it ect..:driving:

What? They don't have their own separate control like a rear window wiper would be like?
Then that's the balls... that sucks.

No - they're a legal requirement over here if you have xenon/bi-xenon headlights, because dirt is supposed to seriously impair their performance (more so than a standard headlamp bulb) - anytime you've got your headlights on they squirt the first time you use the screenwash, then the 10th time, then the 20th, 30th, 40th etc - unless you turn the ignition off, then they squirt the first time again, and so on!!! The only way to prevent them from working is to have the main beam switched off - or disconnect them, which some people do, but you fail the yearly M O T test (Ministry of Transport) if they don't work.

As far as I'm concerned, they're actually quite dangerous because if I'm driving along a dark road I will switch my main beams off if I need to use the screenwash, just so I don't get crap all over the bonnet - even if it means driving in total darkness for a few seconds lol. Yes, it suks!
