Cold Feet Before Buying?

After saving up for the 370z and searching for the right price for over 2 years, I think I may be pulling the trigger as soon as tomorrow.

I located a 2012 base + sport manual with 1600 miles for $29,600 before taxes. First off, do you guys think this is a good deal?

And secondly, did any of you get cold feet right before buying? I've been waiting for this moment for a long time, but I just have that lingering doubt in my mind about whether I'm making the right choice. It might be because it took a lot of hard work to get to this point and I don't want to feel buyers remorse after. I'm interested to hear your opinions.

dP3NGU1N 01-04-2013 07:10 PM

If you've been thinking about it for 2 years I say get one last test drive and pull the trigger. I'm assuming you've already done your due diligence by test driving other cars? 29,600 sounds fair to me, particularly at 1600mi but you've got to wonder why the guy is selling...

I was in the same boat, I was lurking on the forums for a year or two before I finally bought one and I mulled the idea of buying used. In the end I ponied up for a new one just because I wanted the whole experience of break in to first oil change, etc.

Good luck on your decision.

Seems like a good deal to me. 1600 miles thats brand spanking new. Cold feet do to the money? One life to live do it with style.

FairladyZ 01-04-2013 07:16 PM

The money is big, I had cold feet.

If you can really truly afford though you have nothing to worry about.

The car won't make you feel like you regretted it at all

Mandingo 01-04-2013 07:26 PM

Do it do it do it!

SouthArk370Z 01-04-2013 07:31 PM

Sounds pretty normal to me - I get nervous every time I buy a car, house, or any other high-dollar item. $30K ain't exactly chump change. ;)

Unless you actually need a mini-van or can't really afford it, go for it!

Make sure you disable the SLU first chance you get. Edit: Oops. '12s don't have the SLU. Carry on.

You definitely won't regret it! Do it and start modding :)

SPOHN 01-04-2013 08:35 PM

I'd try for a 2013 for the same price. It can be had.

Definitely did my research. I spent countless hours reading reviews, speaking to owners, browsing forums and test driving multiple cars including the Z, EVO, Subaru WRX, BRZ, Mustang, etc. And no car except the Z was able to have the ideal balance of handling, power and styling.

I also wondered why he was letting it go and after doing a little research thanks to the help of CarFax, I came to this conclusion: The 1st owner bought it it NY over the summer and then sold the car in November. I'm assuming that he needed cash quickly after incurring damage to his home from Hurricane Sandy. The dealer purchased it and now has it sitting on the lot for over 2 months.

I thought about buying new, but the price of these cars seem a little higher than before. Also, I didn't want to take the initial hit in depreciation. And most importantly, with the money I save I can spend it on.... no not mods, but insurance

Yup, I was concerned about the money, but after getting a good nights sleep (well not really, couldn't fall asleep thinking about driving the Z) I couldn't agree with you more. Life's short and if I don't get it now, I'll probably spend more money later on thanks to inflation.

I was searching for the best price I could find and I couldn't find any 2012's with 5000 + miles below $30k. I wish I could come across one of those deals fo a 2013.

IN CONCLUSION, I'm going to the dealer today. If there is nothing wrong with the car, it's mine.

A. If I post pics later, you obviously know I bought it.
B. If you don't hear from me for a few days, I'm out driving it :driving:
C. I haven't made a plan C yet.

Thanks for the positive reinforcement guys!!! :tiphat:

Lol, I really don't understand the rep system on here. I have 112 rep points but my rep power is only 3.

OP, I always get cold feet when spending that kind of money. I even felt nervous a week after buying my car. But it goes away.

kenchan 01-05-2013 01:22 PM

op- just check over the car real well inside and out, and under before you buy. test drive and any any question that might pop to mind.

that usually lessens the cold feet since you know what you're getting.

geddy lee 01-05-2013 02:34 PM

Just make sure you pull the steering lock fuse right after the purchase.

Only mid-2011's and earlier have a steering lock. '12's and '13's shouldn't have to worry about this.

Cmike2780 01-05-2013 03:03 PM

Good luck OP.

I personally don't like the new bumper, so I'd rather go for the '12. Pretty much identical mechanically and a ton more options should you decide to add a front lip spoiler.

Cold temps in NY, so leave the VDC on for now :)

Get a Car fax and spend $200 and have an independent mechanic check that car out. I can't imagine why anyone would turn in a car with only 1200 miles and I'd want to make sure it wasn't in an accident or flood or is a troubled unit. If all is well, the price sounds okay to me---it's $600 more than what I paid in 2009 for my base with automatic, brand new.

Z-Girl 12 01-05-2013 03:15 PM

Do it!

gsxr750 01-05-2013 03:16 PM

I wouldn't buy a sports car living in New York , the driving season is to short you only have 5-6 months to drive the car before it needs to be stored.

It makes more sense to update your daily driver for between $5k-$10k save you hard earned money you saved, pissing it up on a $30k season vehicle isn't worth it, unless you can afford to throw away money.

Also read this thread before buying http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ht-car-me.html

So the moment you've all been waiting for.... I am a proud new member of the Z club. I love the car! Pics to come.

I do have one question though. The dealer said that Nissan puts some type of special rough coating on a part of the engine. Pic Below. Can you confirm whether this is true?

I agree. I do prefer the 12 bumper over the 13. I'm definitely happy with my choice.

Your point makes sense. Fortunately, I don't need a dd because I commute by train to work during the week. Also, the winters seem to be more mild compared to prior years in NY.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that you ride a motorcycle. I do too and riding season in NY is even shorter than for a sports car. Recently, I've been thinking about the dangers and consequences of riding. Don't get me wrong, I love my bike and never thought I would ever mention the word "sell" in the same sentence, unless it would be to say "I will never sell my bike." But when you hear about riders breaking their bones, becoming paralyzed or getting killed because someone didn't see them, it really makes you take a hard look and ask if it's really worth it. I would venture out to say that it's probably safer to drive a car than ride a bike especially when you factor in errors made by other cagers. So that was my main justification for getting a sports car. I wanted something that can still give me performance, but also provide me with more safety.

Either way, thanks for looking out and ride safe man.

I did get a Car Fax and everything checked out. My dad also checked out the car - he's been working on them for over 40 years.

My best guess would be that the previous owner had expenses he needed to pay after Sandy and needed cash quick. That's what I gathered from looking at the Car Fax.

I just checked my 2009 and it looks rough but feels like it has some sort of smooth coating on it.
Did the dealer say what the coating was for? I'll guess that it's just a clearcoat to prevent oxidation.

Thanks for taking a look! He said exactly what you said - to prevent oxidation. Whenever I speak to dealers, I always have my guard up and am suspicious of everything they say haha.

That puts me at ease though... thanks again

Do it!!! You'll not regret your first Z. I guarantee when you walk up to it on the lot you'll know its right. Trust me

Nailzs 01-06-2013 08:42 PM

I had to wait almost 2 years before getting mine because of the crappy economy. It's still not the best but being somewhat old if business isn't yet the best Uncle Sam has my back in the form of Social Security. SS to the rescue! :tiphat:

You have cold feet now, but once you step on the gas pedal, you feet become warm...possibly numb from the awesomeness.

11Thumper 01-12-2013 04:42 AM

It's only $30k and not like you lose it all if you change your mind and sell it.

SS_Firehawk 01-12-2013 06:44 AM

When I was at the table, I had my poker face going, looking at the numbers, slightly afraid of the payments. And then out of nowhere, my Wife says "Just buy the ****!ng Car". And that was that.

glad that you didnt let that bother u, never be scared of the #s, thats what a loan is for, sensitive buyers will tell you that even they feel comfortable knowing they can pay back their dues in their own sweet time :icon17:

I think its a solid deal. For that low mileage with sport package? Good.
