Just wait till you cant shift into 2nd gear, makes the other issues seem pleasent.

I don't know, I couldn't turn on my car. I can go from first to third at least.

DIGItonium 01-08-2013 12:45 PM

Here's what I've dealt or am dealing with:
  • CSC/Master replaced
  • Transmission replaced twice
  • Both seat belts replaced (wouldn't retract well)
  • Power steering rack (might replace again as the new one is also making noise after a couple of months)
  • Axle clunk (will resolve in a few months when replacing rear tires)
  • Heater core noise (still some air bubbles causing car to overheat in 100F ambient)
  • ECU whine (too lazy to deal without having to unlock and reprogram)
  • Brake switch (finally replaced after dealing with throttle lag and hesitation for years)
  • Driver side window rattle (haven't fixed)
AFAIK, nothing related to running the car with turbos. It's a pain, but the list of these issues is much longer than the '03 350Z.

I have a 2012 370z touring roadster w/sport pkg, spoiler, fully loaded every option available, 9 months old and I just turned 3,000 miles.
Thats because my 1996 300zx tt is SOOOOOOOO much more fun to drive. Almost totally rebuilt, the 370z is tame compared to the 300.
I really think Nissan should have kept their cars turbo's.

The 370Z with twin turbos is definitely super fun to drive even though I put up with a laundry list of minor issues that can be remedied or repaired. However, the 350/370 is definitely missing something from the 300ZX. I even tried blasting 80s music, too! :icon17:

Unrelated, I don't think my next car will be a new one. It'll be something not much newer than the early 2000s. [shrugs] All the new cars come loaded with stuff, which is also loaded with problems with questionable build quality. I'd rather go back to something simpler.

windlan947 01-09-2013 11:03 AM

Finally gave in and brought the z to the dealership, for the 2nd gear clunk.. Which is now beginning to grind. Fml -...-

Rockcrawler 01-09-2013 11:35 AM

I'm nearing one yr of ownership and 30k miles on my 09, 9k miles when i bought it.

I had the SB done for the tired hatch springs under warranty and thats it. Oil changes, tires and smiles. I pulled the fuse for the steering lock about 6k miles ago. Daily driver, been on 10 hr one way road trips too.

luigi90210 01-09-2013 01:22 PM

my car is making weird noises(it sounds like it has cams when it doesnt) and the techs at the nissan dealership said its normal
a side from that i have to replace tires, and when csc goes out im upgrading to light weight flywheel and aftermarket csc

oh and i have to install an oil cooler because of heat issues(nissan is selling me a stillen 25 row for $600 installed)

Then again I'm either too lazy or it doesn't bother me enough to get it fixed.

Same boat, often forget and probably too lazy lol...happens every now and then lol

there's a bulletin... buts stiffer springs in the little rubber bumpers for the iniotial push. even then, mine still gets fussy if it's cold.... i'm sure the lift cylinders are part of the equation too.

R0bDC 01-11-2013 10:07 AM

Well I had to up (in the last month) with the CSC failure, and the steering lock fuse it all cost me about $1700 dollars just 6 months into purchase and only put 3k miles on the car, but this is it if i get one more issue.......Nissan will pay lol

R0bDC 01-11-2013 10:14 AM

I could've use that $1700 dollars to tint my windows, buy black rims (or paint my rims), buy the Nissan sport brakes!! But no I had to screwed by Nissan.

Did you get an aftermarket part for the CSC issue? If not, expect it to happen again and often until you upgrade. Also, make sure your new steering lock is a recent rev. You might want to consider pulling the fuse anyway.

For the CSC, Nissan payed for it. I didnt want to pay for an aftermarket one (which worked out because there no way I wouldve afford this issue and the Steering lock repair). I will wait until its close to the year or 12k miles warranty and probably replace it.

As for the Steering Lock, First I will ask which model was used to replace the lock, if it's one that's going to have an issue I might pull the fuse close to the year or the 12000k miles.

Well don't give up on her yet. It's frustrating, I know. I consider selling mine at least once a month. :icon17: Good luck!

My 09 was brand new, and so far I've had zero problems with it. (36K miles). This is exceptional, and unexpected.

Going on now into its 4th year, I know I'll have to do brakes sometime this spring. That's about it.

When you buy ANY car used, there's always a question of how the previous owner(s) treated it. Buying "certified" from a dealer isn't much of a guarantee, as you found out. But the car is basically OK.

Incidentally, in my research prior to buying, I noted the car was pretty much run-of-the-mill as far as exotic performing parts. Same engine as the G37, etc. etc. It's the configuration/assemblage in a light small frame that gives us the extra enjoyment, the enhanced value.

Find a competent mechanic to go over your car in depth looking for the types of problems you might expect. (This is what you might have considered investing $100 in back when you bought your used car.)

Good luck!

my local dealerships told me around $5 for oil change if I bring my own oil and filter

My problem is that these problems are not rare, it seems that every 09/10 370z will have this issue at some point unless they take out the fuse or cut the wired to the steering lock. Nissan recall the same issue on 09 GTR's why not 370Z's doesn't seem fair but hopefully for me after going through these things is smooth sailing.

XwChriswX 01-11-2013 02:19 PM

Just (hopefully) solved an annoying rattle in the hatch. 99% sure it's one of the 3rd brake light alignment bars that rubs against it's alignment hole. Went to a shop here and got some rubber grommets to prevent the contact and keep it centered. After going for a drive, the vibration was minimal, and I'm sure after I put on the trim panel, it will be muffled enough to be inaudible in the cabin.

(This doesn't appear to be a manufacturing defect, I had my hatch removed/painted for my wing install and the bars seem to have had at some point some foam or some other material that was used for this that got removed in the process.)
