trucks like to tailgate our Z's no matter how fast you're going? :shakes head:

1st 12-31-2012 12:03 PM

Lol I just thought they were trying to read my plate.

JungleZ 12-31-2012 12:20 PM

I have more problems with Prius drivers

KERMIT 12-31-2012 01:18 PM

Because you can only see their bumper no matter how far back they are?

I think it's a problem with our z

Lemers 12-31-2012 01:38 PM

Let them tailgate me at 100 mph

Had my Uprev tuner set my Titan's limiter to 186...stupid laws of physics and common sense keeps her down tho :eekdance:

I think they do it to everyone

Dustin@Z1 12-31-2012 03:33 PM

Paranoia could also be attributed to this....LOL.

I am the same way when driving my Z and have larger vehicles behind me. But then again, I KNOW I can see the people staring at my truck when I am behind them. 2500 Dodge Ram Diesel 4x4 with massive steel bumper and winch. Kinda makes people nervous...

TheGreatOne 12-31-2012 04:02 PM

I felt like that too

Once at a gas station the truck pulled in also and said he was trying to check out my gauges lol.

Z-Girl 12 12-31-2012 04:11 PM

I feel the same way, i think its because my z is lil and very low. Accords look like they are going to roll over me LOL.

Tailgating trucks

I don't think it is just paranoia. I noticed this when I rode motorcycles also. Had one truck driver tailgate me and then waive a pistol at me for no reason that I could discern that he thought a two wheeler shouldn't be in his way. Another just plane seemingly tried to kill me getting 2 feet from my taillight. Been hit in the rear three times over 20 years--each time by a pickup.

I began studying them in other lanes behind other vehicles to see if I was paranoid or just had bad luck. It indeed seems that some people react to the size advantage by (I hope usually unconsciously) crowding the smaller vehicles around them. A bit of unconscious bullying or just selfish awareness that it isn't likely to be them the one who gets hurt. I drive a truck too and try to be careful to not do this. My reaction is to back off more knowing I have more momentum to stop. I think most more mature truck divers do this.

On the interstate yesterday an F250 was tailgating me and after he passed me (at 85 in a congested urban 60 zone, he got 2 feet from a Corolla). I have only had my Zee a month but one thing I like is that it easier to get out of the way of meth cranked fools.

nope, just saying i've noticed it since i've had it. though, the Z stops much faster than their trucks :owned: brake check a truck towing a trailer and watch the hilarity ensue

Try driving a Miata. This happens every single time and almost always a pinhead in a pickup with a confederate flag on it somewhere. Driving the Z around, I notice people creeping up and keeping pace in my blind spot.

I'm hear ya, I have a quad cab GMC diesel 4 by and my experience is the same. People tend to give ya a lot of leeway in a truck, but it seems for better or worse, jerks and admires want to crowed me in my Z. It cracks me up and pisses me off that I can do the seed limit or ten above and I seem to be slowing everyone down!

Some time I go slow just to let folks know that even if I'm going slower than they are, I'm still fast than them on their best day so :gtfo2:

Coon-azz 12-31-2012 09:38 PM

I get this kind of driving from trucks and SUV's all time on 95. The part that sucks is that once I move over, they don't speed up. So I get back into the passing lane and they do it again. The next time they ride my butt, I tap my brakes pretty hard.

With tractor trailers, I try to give them as much room as they need, but if I've got no where to go and they keep riding my butt, well, we play a cool game of "how many gears am I gonna make you change up every hill for the next 40 miles." They usually get the idea by then since time is money.

In S'pore, alot of Subaru Sti, VW Golf GTi & Mitsubitshi Evo's like to tailgate me.

Nailzs 01-01-2013 06:03 AM

Going home from the dealer I bought my Z from yesterday I was accelerating, carefully, up an entrance ramp to the interstate to the speed limit, or a little beyond, carefully, when I look in my rear view mirror and see an Infinity G35 about 2 feet from my bumper. I don't have 50 miles on the car yet!

danegrey 01-01-2013 07:51 AM

hmmm... I have not had this problem, maybe because I just drive it to slow on the freeway, just nice to know that I can out run most of them if I want...

USMCASA 01-01-2013 10:05 AM

^i try to keep it between 5-10 over the posted limit

Ditto, and when I have DB's that tail gait I give them a brake check that usually keeps them away from me for the rest of the time.

Trucks are ridiculous especially when they are trying to keep up or race. Usually I will stay even like they are really doing good until 3rd gear then I just leave them behind like they are sitting still.

Going into heavy turns I have many people try to follow me and they end up slamming on their brakes. What is funny is that are these turns I have had vette owners slow or brake in the turn as well, I had one Audi R8 give up the turn as well and slow.

Another one I hate is when people know you are coming through and moving faster, but they change lanes to block you off. I like the acceleration capabilities of the Z I can usually pass the car that was trying to block me as soon as they get over to block the clear lane.

Dude be careful and stay safe. These people are crazy and simply have no respect and are pure road bullies. I clear a path for bikers to pass me by on freeway traffic so they can make it through safely. Just being courteous and I understand laws of physics i.e. big mass/small mass collisions.

A block away from the dealership, I hit the brakes hard after seeing cars coming at me from my left in my peripheral vision. Turns out, the side mirror is so large and exactly at eye level that I believed I was about to be hit.

Keep in mind, I had only driven the Z a total of 30 seconds. Now, I'm used to the mirror blocking my view although it is disconcerting when I'm turning. I have to **** my head to look around it.

Edit: I guess "c*ck my head" isn't allowed by the word filter so how about "I have to stretch my neck to see around the mirror during turns"

Same. I almost have to stand up when making left turns in an intersection so I can see where the median curb is and make sure to avoid it. :icon17:

As for tailgating... happens all the time. If I can, I usually just set my cruise at 70 in the center lane and hope people pass me.

I have the OPPOSITE experience when towing a large trailer. Every idiot with a steering wheel...including Z owners (no one is safe from this rant).... thinks that they must do everything they can from being stuck behind me. I try to keep a safe distance in the event I need to stop this freight train in a hurry. I have proven it to every person who rides shotgun with me. The bigger the vehicle, the LESS room people give you and more likely that they will cut you off.

Keep that in mind when you say "trucks like riding my bumper"...it might just be that you slide right in front of them and did not give THEM enough room. :shakes head:

Douchebag status achieved :roflpuke2:....kidding.

I have had a few people try that before. Thats why I invest in excellent straps and awesome brakes on my truck. That is also why I have 4 130 watt Fog Lights mounted to my bumper. Day or Night...try that trick when I am drving my truck and ALL HIGH BEAMS get turned on. Glaring right into their mirrors.

Roadkill 01-02-2013 09:28 AM

Happens to me all the time. I have a 70 mile round trip commute daily and been rear ended 3 times in the past 3 years. Not in this Z...yet. I've adopted the philosophy that brake checking them just pisses them off and puts the car at risk. So now I just slow down. The closer they ride, the slower I go. Sometimes, below 50. I know I'm fast and couldn't care less if they know it. My logic is that I have super good brakes, but they don't. If they don't have enough sense to leave a reasonable stopping distance between us, I have enough sense to leave enough for both of us. Then when we've gone slow enough for long enough, they snap and come on around. I often greet their angry stares and hand gestures by holding my phone up to my ear like I'm talking on it and waving while grinning like an idiot. Another SOB on his cell phone! :) Like I'm just too damn stupid to talk and drive at the same time. :) It's a riot pissing them off and keeps the car out of danger at the same time. :) That's just wrong. :) huh?

Trucks tend to be carrying a lot of junk that can fly off and damage your car. Trucks are also notorious for picking up road debris and hurling it at the cars behind. So yes, most sane people do try to do what ever they can to not be behind a truck...

I used to give trucks what I thought was a lot of room, probably 3-4 car lengths. Then I moved and had to drive a uhaul truck. Yeah, 6-8 car lengths is probably a lot better. I was surprised at how rude a lot people were too when I was driving the truck, and not giving you much room to maneuver. People need to better understand the m in KE=(1/2)mv^2 a little better.

Tickwomp 01-02-2013 03:45 PM

Doesn't happen to me very often, but when it does, I get a sudden urge to clean my windshield. Works great for motorcycles behind you too.

Agreed. My rule of thumb is 95on Route 95. If i'm not willing to go over a certain speed, I wont block, I'll move over, but in Virginia, they block on purpose. And once you pass them, they slow way down. I hate those... :shakes head:

I agree. It should be a requirement like serving food or something. One of those jobs that everyone should have to do once. Then again, I've had my car damaged enough times by trucks that spit stuff that isn't tied down to be less excepting anymore. I think 95 in Virginia is the worst I've seen in the the US.

Where I'm at they will ride side by side in the middle and right lanes for 20-30miles backing up traffic just as far because they now limit only one lane to pass. Usually at this point people are throwing stuff at the trucks. The worst part it once you pass the two dumb-asses driving side-by-side, there isn't a car for miles; again in Virginia. Hard to be sympathetic at that point. Especially when I've missed time with my family or business meetings because of this. Time is $ and at that point any value they brought to the products they delivered would be better spent on getting rid of truckers all together. I'd rather buy local or pay more than have to share the road with them in Virginia. Yeah it's that bad.

i have problems with muscle car drivers, ricers, and prius drivers

not so much with truck drivers, although they love cutting me off and driving like an asswipe
