HELP!!! So Pissed

:shakes head:I picked up my Z on Monday. Didn't want dealer to Detail car because it is Magnetic Black and they did anyway. So I had to detail the car today to remove the 3D swirl marks they put in the paint.

While detailing and waxing the car I noticed on the driver's door (under the mirror) what looks like tape marks in the paint under the clear coat. It appears to be 3 seperate strips that look like glue from the back of electrical tape or the protective covering from shipping the car. It is under the clear!!!

I know that nothing occured on the dealer lot, as I removed the white protective tape when I 1st test drove the car. An orbital wouldn't take it out.

Went back to the dealer and showed the Sales Manager who seemed a bit perplexed. He offered to swap the door with another Magnetic Black Z he has on the lot, but I don't know if that is a smart thing to do. I would hate to have to respay the door as the car is brand new.

Plus, the dealer prep guys put on the front license plate bracket and drilled into the bumper :shakes head:

What should I do????

I also noticed my 1st tiny chip on the lower front bumber by the intake cutouts.

Same thing happened to me. The dealership put in swirl marks prior to pick up. I complained and they cleaned it up some (not all) while I had the XPEL installed.

I'd swap out doors and then enjoy driving.

The only bad thing about that is somebody else is gonna be driving that other magnetic black Z. Think of how you'd like to be treated I'm not saying don't do it but I'm sure the dealer is trying to get around spending money and just wants to sell that door and car, too someone who's clueless.

Have them pay to have it resprayed. EVERY dealer has their own body shop. If a car gets scratched, dinged, damaged, some body has to fix it right? Tell them to take it to their prefered shop because they can probobly have it fixed for $50 and have a great job done that would be covered under a guarantee.

I had the same marks on my rear panels. However, mine polished out with a non cutting polish. It turned out to just be the glue residue from the protective tape.

I thought the front bumper was already drilled into via the factory?

For the rock chip if the dealer will not deal with that i highly recoment Dr. color chip. I was not sure if it would work but after buy the kit and using it on my black G37, it f'en rocks. It is a very good repair and if the chp is deep apply it 2-3 times to bring it up level with the factory paint. If you are looking for the repair you will still see it but it is very hard to tell.

There are 2 indentations where the holes should go, but they aren't drilled out.

God what you described is my biggest fear when buying my Z. I'm seriously considering making the dealer write "no detailing & no front license drilling" before I sign...

Follow-up

Went to dealer today.

The only way to fix the paint issue is to respray the entire door.

Seeing as I've only owned the Z for 4 days, I really did not want to have paint work done.

The dealer offered to swap cars for me. I agreed, but the only issue is that there are only 4 Magnetic Black/Black Touring w/Sport & NAV & 7AT in the region. They can't get one.

So we agreed on a Brilliant Silver/Black Z with the same equiptment.

I think that was very fair. The car will be here tomorrow.

Good job getting a different z. Not a good idea to swap doors or paint a new car.

The dealer drilled the two holes for the front license plate on my car too. They don't listen very well when I ask for them to NOT do stuff.

Brilliant silver is my preferred colour, the internal parts of the headlights match the body coulour along with the wheels, door handles etc. Some of the other darker colours make these items stand out too much. However, this is my personal taste and all in all I don't think there is any bad colour in the range. Love em all.
