Not making this a whats better thread, just an opinion and thats it....
Pretty good review. And though i understand the need for the reviewer to over-emphasize the enthusiast transmission of choice. Only thing is Reviewers, unfairly keep knocking this auto. It's arguably the best "slush-box auto" out there and I happened to choose it because the auto felt significantly more torquey, (though numbers are the same) DRM added what i needed to replace manual and was easier to drive in traffic.
Other cars like gencoupe, 128i, camaro and mustang v6 would probably never make it on my auto option list. But in the case of the Z. This thing felt different. It was closer to the 135i and Evo DCT which i consider to be amazing autos :)

:iagree: There will always be the elitest. Personally I was a manual only guy until I drove the Z, that & my wife wanted an auto so she could drive it :argue:. Like that is going to happen  I almost didn't consider the car when she put her auto clause in there, but after driving it I quickly found how nice it was going to be. ;)

UNKNOWN_370 12-10-2012 09:45 AM

On the tech side though he's right. Our nav interface was outdated by the 2011 model year. Base models don't have bluetooth and ipod connections. Seriously? I disagree with the sound system part. I think the 240w bose should be a base system and nissan should have put something in the 360w range for our touring Z's.
Our interior is severely eclipsed in features by lower end cars. The z would have been a better seller if they didn't go so bargain basement on the base model. I been saying for years what this reviewer said.

I have been driving manuals for ever but when I got my Z I test drove both and ended up with the Auto. I fell in love with it and no more changing gears through crazy traffic every day. Plus my wife likes that its auto so she can drive it.

I have one, I love it!

JungleZ 12-10-2012 12:23 PM

I wish I got an auto, but for the 299 lease deal it was only the 6mt, it's such a clunky shifter and the auto I drove my very first 370z fealt alot more torquey. I don't think I'll ever get manual again unless I can afford a porshe one day..

Quick370z 12-10-2012 12:30 PM

Good review for sure, though people get mad he covers too much about the Nav package etc - it is a tech show..

Is it just me or is that color awesome! The new bumper actually has grown on me and the red calipers.

He outlined basically though what we already know and maybe even hinted at what Nissan will be doing in the future (smaller displacement engine possible turbo etc) to save weight.

The price well ya has gone up but since 2009 but I guess inflation (though yes maybe Nissan could have added something else).

I still would choose this car over a Genesis (sorry too girly) and mustang (sorry to well lets say not special).

ProfessorDave 12-10-2012 12:47 PM

I agree that the color of the Z featured is beautiful (although I'm partial to blue cars). I really like the nose refresh, too.

Overall, seemed like a fair and generally positive review. Thanks for posting it!

You can make the manual a lot better with an after market clutch pedal swap and a heavier shift knob.

Also changing gear oil or upgrading to a lighter clutch/flywheel will do wonders. Out of the box this car is not what it should have been that's for sure.

Love the new blue. The magma red really isn't that great in person.

m4a1mustang 12-10-2012 03:16 PM

I never particularly liked the feel of my 6MT. I did like the 7ATs that I have driven so I don't fault anyone for going that route.

They are also typically the fastest in a straight line. :stirthepot:

cossie1600 12-10-2012 04:45 PM

I test drove a 7at, couldn't stand it.

I drive a 6MT, and it's the first stick I've ever owned. (Drove a coworker's Golf to learn, drove my friend's WRX once.) I test drove the 7AT when I was buying, but went for the manual because, well, I figured you're supposed to in a sports car. I do love the engagement of ripping through the gears when you're accelerating hard on an on ramp, but I wonder if I should have gone with the 7AT (particularly considering the fact that my master & slave cylinders died when I was four hours from home). I also do primarily highway driving, so I spend the majority of my time in 6th gear.

As far as the '13 model, I'm still not sold on the face. It's grown on me a little, and this is the first live-action I've really seen of the new look. I still hate the wheels though. Directional rims always look like they're from WalMart, IMO. Should have stayed with the 09-12, and just offered the gunmetal color. That blue is pretty awesome though.

:iagree: The only thing i really don't like about my AT is that increasing this car by 200rwhp is rapetastically expensive. Beefing up the tranny will cost as much as a turbo kit. :ugh2:

Other than that, the 7at is insanely responsive and aggressive for being a slushbox. With the groundwire kit from stillen, it's just plain impressive.

Z-Girl 12 12-10-2012 07:17 PM

I test drove the Z in Auto because they had no manuals. After coming from an auto G35S i was totally determined to get a manual my next ride. I was extremely impressed by the auto in the Z and as others have said felt nice and torquey. There is virtually no traffic in my neck of the woods so the manual has worked out great. Nice write up!

uh..... the reviewer actually DID NOT bash the auto, go back to the video at the 4:10 mark, he said, "The automatic by the way is a 7-speed I'm sure it's a lovely automatic but it doesn't make sense in this car...."

He doesn't agree an automatic transmission in a sports car, that's more like his personal preference on a sports car, and from his statement, I believe he would say the same thing on another sports car.

But he did praise the 7sp-AT

KERMIT 12-10-2012 09:07 PM

The 370 is old and sucks fuel. It needs small engine and turbo, it must be like brz... Blah blah.

Honestly, I'd like to see them go after the vette than the brz. If the next gen goes downscale... I'll just get a c7 vette

Ok do we really need the drama print? :ugh2: All i'm saying is, as a auto, its features compliment a sports car well. He may prefer a manual I'm just saying i don't see why people think a sports car shouldn't have an auto if the auto is worthy? That's when i explained in which cars, auto's would not be an option and which one's would. Lastly the knocking sentence was a general statement to all reviewers, that somehow find a way not to credit this auto for it's performance.

Thanks for coming to the reviewers rescue, but I have the right to my opinion as well. :tiphat:

lawl, it's ok that you drive an auto dude. Let the last of the manual trannys die in peace.

No one is wanting the extinction of manuals. This has nothing to do with it. But I already see where you're going and lets not bring this forum backward two years. I do think the review was very good and honest. I just made a statement that's going somewhere it doesn't have to.

LiquidCrewZ 01-17-2013 12:43 PM

Just saw this review, it's refreshing to see a great review for a change. "This car doesn't really come at you outrageous, I really think it's market would like that.":D
