Just another INTERCOOLER question

OK BEFORE PEOPLE BASH ME

I've read reports and checked time to time about the oil cooler. I'm not willing to purchase a car we all know has a universal problem. So if someone would be kind enough to let me know when they will fix it or if they are not? And what are the options you have as a buyer so warranty won't be affected. I realized there were a few options about changing the oil? Which oil is that again? Just wanting to learn and be cautious. Hope you guys don't mind sharing and teaching =]

from what i read, oil cooler is a must if you track your z, not really for regular driving. u could always buy an oil cooler and just remove it before servicing, but that's a hassle.

This is not a "Universal" problem and is no reason NOT to buy the car. It is unlikely Nissan will fix a problem that does not exist for 99.9% of their buyers. If you plan to track the car, put on a cooler..The sky is not falling.

(Your Intercooler heading is a bit misleading. It is not the same as an Oil cooler)

Oil cooler is an issue if you're racing it.
If you;re driving it on the street, it won't be an issue.

I *tried* to get my Z into limp mode buy using a combination of a 4-way stop, and two subdivision enterances to make a bit of an L-shaped road course. (it was in the middle of the day, and I was being careful/observant!)

I got it just shy of 260, and when it'd sit at the stop sign for just a sec, it'd drop to around 256...

Let's be fair to him Mod, he thinks there is a universal intercooler problem, given the fact that there isn't even an aftermarket intercooler for the Z, he has a legit point and therefore he should not lower himself to our level and consider buying one. We can let him know when an intercooler is available (wink;wink;nod;nod) ;).

If you are not buying this car because of the "oil cooler issue" then you need to do some more research on the 370Z.

If you are driving it as a daily driver it will not be an issue.

If you are driving it on the track then install a cooler - if you are willing to chance rubbing the wall with your car you chances of warranty issues are less likely - just return it to stock before you bring it in.

lol... love the bashing. anyways, that's not primarily the only reason. God I'm in love with the Z. Test drove one here in Torrance near where I live. So smooth and fast. Just extremely scary coming from a sedan where you can see out every window/angle where as this car your stuck only seeing the front basically. I'm 6'1 210 and I was surprised to see how well it fits. From the outside, I was looking at it and felt like i could just crush it. But inside, I felt secure and happy, as if I was being hugged by Shaq. lol

The "oil" issue seems to not be a universal problem as i stated. Sorry! Just deciding if a 2 seater is well worth it. I'm contemplating buying a G37 Sedan Journey with Sports package, or the G37 Sedan in 6mt, or the 370z 6mt. Pros and cons everywhere. Either way, I'll be in the family of Nissan. =]

G37 Sedan, extremely fast for a Sedan. Has the "jerky" feeling and frankly love that feeling due to it's extremely sensitive throttle. It's faster than the coupe, being a slightly lighter car too. Seats 5.

370z = Adrenaline. the fact that it's a two seater is what's holding me back. Just would suck to be in a position where I won't be able to give a friend a ride because of having no extra room.

RCZ 07-08-2009 10:09 AM

Oh thats not bashing...trust me.

One thing I gotta say is that if you are coming from an bigger sedan, the Z will feel a little claustrophobic for a few days (as it did for me), but then you get used to it like you would anything else and you don't notice it anymore. I have a friend that is 6'1 and he has no problems in it...in fact he tries to steal it constantly.

The oil: One could argue that it is a universal problem because everyone has it. The difference comes in whether you are going to be racing it on a track. It can handle just about anything the street could throw at it, so don't worry about that. If you were planning on maybe taking it on the track, then like most other cars, you will have to do a few tweaks; one of which being adding some added cooling for the engine.

As for the G37 vs 370z comparison... We have seen people come and go from here and it seems that if you are in the group who think the two are alternatives, then you are probably better off with the G, not the Z. Seems like you are thinking about some practicality...wont get that in the Z. If you think the Sedan is fast enough, then I think that mayhaps its the car for you :)

If you go with the Z, then welcome to the forums sir.

FricFrac 07-08-2009 03:17 PM

What he (RCZ) said :) Definately not bashing - just strongly stating our thoughts on the matter ;) The G35/37 are outstanding but for me I wanted a pure sports car. The G is sporty but not a sports car - very powerful excellent handling luxury sedan yes - sports car no. If i were to go down that road I'd likely get an '07 G35 coupe which seems to be the best for the money. A used 370Z isn't an option :)

jyhighsky 07-10-2009 06:32 AM

thanks for all your inputs and thoughts. i think ill be getting a 370z once i graduate from UCI. it's just a dilemma between white and black. i have had black cars all my life, ins and outs for knowing what to expect. but just going with which LOOKS better vs. comfort and stress the black can throw at you. Love the white on black theme, also the black on mesh silver rims. not much of a black on black theme. anyways thanks guys!!

oh btw, how durable are the Z's paints? Pertaining to white and black. thanks!

Its a bit early to be making any calls about that. However, I'd hazard to guess its like any other paint - rocks will chip it, keys will scratch it, and bird poop will stain it. Its not strong as a diamond, that's for sure.
