what do you use for mice?
so after having about $1400.00 damage to my 2013 370 with only 425 miles- the question is : what do you use or what have you tried to keep the mice out of the cars and garage ? I just started using the moth balls in the old socks also have loaded up another old car with drier sheets . what else have you tried ?

I have poison tablets all over my garage. Haven't had a issue since.

Take a 5 gallon bucket cut two small holes on each side of the top where the lid snaps down and fill the bucket with 5 or so inches of water. Next take a pop can and run a piece of haywire through it lengthwise (you will need to pop a hole in the bottom of the can) and tie the haywire to each hole in the bucket that you just made.
Take a bit of peanut butter and spear it around the can. Now put a small piece of wood leading up to the lip of the bucket to act as a ramp. Now when the mouse runs up to get the peanut butter it will jump on the can and fall into the water and drown. Works every time and you dont have to worry about only getting one, those suckers will continue to jump in till there is none left and they will leave the cars alone. My mom has a 350Z that we parked in the garage all winter long without any sort of mouse traps or anything like that. When we went to pull it out of the garage in the spring and poped the rear truck the mice had stockpiled a huge pile of dogfood (out door dogs that were fed outdoors) ontop of where the spare tire is. It must of took them all year, there was probably a good 5-8 lbs of dog food in the truck of the car. haha. |

I know the feeling. I went all summer without my streetbike because my wire-harness was chewed through. My solution involved an IR Surefire weapon light, an air rifle pellet gun, and a good set of night-vision goggles, and lots of patience.

$1,400 in damages by mice! Damn what happened.

There are a few different types of rat poison that either work by making the little critter bleed to death or mineralize its organs. Both work well (although can't be too nice for the little mice), but do have serious risks if you have any pets at home. The bucket trap can work too to drown the mice. There are also electric traps which are more humane, not sure on their price or availability. I've killed mice with rat poison to keep them out of my Morgan, and I also see a lot of dogs on emergency that have been poisoned by rat bait so just watch out.

How are mice getting into the garage in the first place? Have you tried tracing or sealing any openings?
|
they can fit through very small space...
from what i know (not much), i dont have a mouse problem at my place, but im not taking any chances cause our cars are made out of soybean products. it's quite edible for those rodents... and a $5 box of dcon is cheaper than $1K+ of harness and repair each... |

Damn that sucks dude, moth balls and dryer sheets is what I use for my car during the winter storage. But the old style mouse traps would also work if you don't want to use rat poison, I like the bucket idea to though!
|
WHAT?! I've seen some mice in my garage here and there . They run in from outside sometimes. I did not know they could harm my z :( I'm scared now! lol
|
I use my moms cat. There are no mice, birds, small animals anywhere near by the house.

Cats work great. Mine has killed 104 mice, 4 birds, 6 snakes, and one salamander in 2 years at my place. I don't have any around my house or garage anymore.

The bucket method works great for mice AND chipmunks...killed about 15 of them this summer. I use sunflower seeds on the board leading up to the can that has peanut butter with sunflower seeds stuck to it.
|
Dang this really sux. Guess i cant leave a car sitting too long. Is the poison method instant? If not i'd be afraid of the bugger crawling somewhere and rotting away. In that case i might be able to trace the decay n nasty smell. The bucket method sounds effective but i cant picture dumping a bucket full of dead mice each week, etc...gross!

Ok I live out in mountains and have come up with pretty effective tools to rid myself of rodents from my vehicles
Buy some bounce fabric softener ( it has to be bounce) and put couple sheet under seats, in spare tire area and in little cubbies by brakes and battery under the hood. Rodents hate that smell. Buy several mouse traps and bait them with peanut butter. Always set a couple close to each other. If I have particularly bad problem I will bait. But make sure you bait away from the car. It's rare that mouse will die from bait in your car as they run outside to look for water usually when they have eaten rodent poison. But be careful if you have pets. You don't want them getting into poison or eating poisoned mice. Kitty kat Get over dumping dead mice. It's war! |

I set up the bucket trap in the garage yesterday afternoon...4 dead mice in the water this morning. This is amazing!!! |
Having mice trouble in my yard, can't wait to get home today and set this bucket trap! I'm actually excited as I'm typing this lol, I got rid of 3 with glue traps but there's one more lurking around, can't take the chance of that little sucker damaging my car or gixxer

I would just introduce a natural predator to the environment or a smelling substance that repels them from the area. Call an exterminator, they will (should) have a line of effective products and use them around the location they are using to enter your storage.
The bucket seems like a good idea, yet the smell will probably attract them and you'll be left with always having to use it; same with any traps that attract the rodents. Whatever your solution, I hope it works and best of luck avoiding any varmint damage! Experience: grew up in rural Illinois in cornfield-country. '67GTO, 2 4wheelers, 3 motorcycles, and several expensive field tractors sitting in barn with possums, field mice, groundhogs, moles, etc. After a lot of $ spent in repairs and different trap-solutions that seems to intensify the number of pests, 3 cats ended up solving the problem. |

Every cat I've ever had must have been like this one. Luckily where I love now I have no mice issues I vote for the bucket trick too! |
