Got a free loaner car from Nissan dealership

Today I brought my Z to the Nissan dealership for some warranty works. Replacing brake hardwares, brake pads, refurbish brake rotors. Total about 3 hours work. The guy gave me one day rental from Hertz and told me Nissan will pay for it. I am very impressed. Of course that dealership is very friendly to me. I bring in 2 of my Nissan viecles for services all the time.

I know Infiniti gives me free loaner everytime I ask them work on my g35. Does Nissan have the same policy? Or it's just because I am very close to those service managers?

It's the dealership, not Nissan. Good dealers will give out loaners.

Yep, I get a free loaner when mine is in for service as well, but I only just noticed that I get charged another $20 for the cost of the service ............. over the "capped priice" .....

bollocks ............

I am schedule to take my car in on my baby's due date (most baby doesn't come out on the actual day). I had asked them for a loaner car so I can drive home (20 miles), they won't give it to me. I guess I can't ask for too much, at least they are actually trying to fix the problem this time.

I was at Lexus a month ago with my wife's car, got a brand new $45K car to drive. I guess you get what you paid for.

SmallermouseZ 11-15-2012 11:38 PM

u guys are so lucky. My experience with Nissan dealerships sucked really bad.

When I decided to buy the Z instead of the M1 coupe... I went toa total of 4 Stealerships and they said they can not and will not let me test drive a Z, even if they had one on the lot. They made up so many excuses such as: "We can't let you cause we can't put too many kms on a new car" "You got to order one from Japan first." "You have to put down a down payment." "we can't let you test drive that one cause it's the manager's car" BLAAH BLAAH BLAHH.....

I was like... Seriously?! "No problem i can put down a down payment of how much you want" "So you expect me to buy the car without a test drive or seeing it?" "man its just a nissan." wtf??

Last stealership(at this point I was about to reconsider) I went to was the one in burnaby where I met a sales associate who was pretty chill and talked to the manager for a while and i got a test drive in a black auto Z.

Everyone treated me like if i was some punk *** kid who just wana joyride... Slapped a bank draft down and ordered/bought a brand new 2012 pw sport pkg/navi.

Sorry about the rant. I'm pretty sure if you're in my shoes u would be pissed.

nmjaxx9 11-15-2012 11:44 PM

so thats how they do it in canada :icon17:

anyways yeah thats ghey, not letting you test drive a car is just as bad as buying the car and regretting buying it. :rofl2:

Glad to know atleast one dealership let you test drive.

boilermaker1 11-15-2012 11:53 PM

Damn, makes you wonder if they even want to sell the car. I thought Canadians were supposed to be more hospitable.:rofl2:

No, its true. When I was looking for a 370 at a dealership the salesman was trying to tell me that they don't let people test drive this car and that someone offered to put down 20 grand to go for a test drive and they said no.

Its all a bunch of bull.

that sucks, im glad my experience was the exact opposite, when i asked to test drive my nismo Z they said sure and let me test drive it(after making sure i had a valid DL which is understandable)

the only reason why my test drive was short was because the car was out of gas(no lights on the gas gauge) but once they got the car filled up they let me have another run in it and i loved it and walked out that night with the car keys in hand

i guess it depends on the dealer really, one of my friends had the same problem when he was buying his FR-S, toyota wouldnt let him test drive it even though he had the down payment in hand ready to buy the car

Bullshite... Sorry, it's Nissan's policy, they'll pay up to 3 days for a loaner or rental... Now a 3 hour repair and giving you a rental, I bet a customer could just ask and they shall receive...

Now, hook up or being nice to the dealer pay dividends for people like me, I had a 10 day rental

Japanjay 11-16-2012 04:05 AM

I am going on almost a month with mine.... I have had 2 different versas, and a titan, and one other. The titan and the other I cant remember both were from enterprise since the dealership didnt have a loaner on hand at the time. They just said they would call when a loaner came in and I could swap. All for the TSB on Oil consumption. New short block was installed, drove Z then got CEL with 1100rpm idle, replaced oxygen sensor, got back Z threw another 2 CELS. Now it is running lean and getting detenation. They cant figure out why it is doing it and it looks like it wont be out tomorrow either, so another weekend with the Versa..... :(

This is for sure true as well, at all the Nissan dealers I have gone to I always get a crappy Versa or Cube or hopefully an Altima, no matter if I came in with my Z or Maxima...
One had a FULLY loaded Maxima for GTR customers. I did get to take that for 3 days once...

And when I take my ISF to Lexus I get free cookies, donuts, soft drinks, coffee, computers to use... And as a loaner I get an IS250, CT200h, ES350 or RX350,
Same with the SL500 at Mercedes, although Mercedes had 40 C250's and 5 of the Mercedes Toyota Highlander.

At the same time, the Lexus costs $68,000, and the cheapest car they sell is what? $33k, where most 370s probably cost $33k, and the cheapest Nissan is what $16k? ISF brake job $1400, I KNOW it's not that much on the 370, so you DO get what you pay for... When I took the ISF in for that painful brake job, I informed them that I was going to use their rental for a week and not to call me, LOL

I can understand a dealershit not giving a loaner for oil changes and simple jobs like oil changes, or only offering a ride back to work because just the cost of doing the paperwork eats away at their profit margin...

All you have to do is ask IMO, I think most people hate the dealershits, which is understandable, but it's easy to fix that problem... When you get a dumb service advisor, get a different one, if they're all stupid or try to feed you BS, go to a different dealershit... Call corporate, do what you need to do... If you're willing to type an essay and bitch and moan here, might as well call corporate and do it, lol
Also, when you're calling a dealershit, sweet talk the receptionist for a bit, then say, "look I need someone in service, but who do you think is the best, no BS advisor? Don't worry, I'm not going to rat on you, LOL"
It works, it works REALLY well... But when you put shít in, you get shít out... Go in with a crap attitude, you get crap from it 99% of the time... If any of you have worked in food, or any service job, you should know, when someone gives you an attitude, you give the attitude right back vs a guy comes in cracks a joke, gives a hey, how are you, and you'll be more willing to give the customer better service!

Call corporate, tell them what's going on, have them bring a master tech out... A month is too long...
They should replace the whole thing now...
But again, try to be nice, lol

Also, if they do end up replacing your whole engine, call corporate and see if they'll write you a check for the "devaluation" of your car since it needed a new engine.

I agree with a lot on your pov of dealerships. I am a Service Advisor for BMW but before that I was just a customer. And like pretty much every service job there are 2 pov's and it natural to feel that whichever side your on is the right side. But a lot of dealerships get bad names bc of poor service given by a completely different dealership or one persons bad experience and they get all lumped together. Like DMV or chain restaurants. When in reality it could be the cause of one or two individuals in a given situation. And like you said you get what you put in. I always try and remember what it was like to be the customer. I wipe every slate clean with every interaction and try to be as thorough and informative as possible and always keep them in the loop with what is going on with there vehicle. As far as loaners go that's different between dealerships and probably the manufacturer. With BMW being a highline dealer we have over 40 loaners and we don't have any requirements. If we have one you get it. But it's never enough. Our loaners get scheduled by appointment usually a week in advance and we keep a handful on hand as back ups for large customer pay or warranty work that could not be foreseen. Plus we have to shuttles running all day. Bottom line is we give a sh!t. We have a good service manager and GM and good advisors/techs. And if we get a bad hire they get coached right out the door if need be. That's all you can ask for. And the same can be said for almost any establishment. It comes down to the people and I mean the customer too! Courtesy and respect goes a long way on both sides of the counter. Customers need to realize they go to work too and usually a sh!tty customer is somebody's sh!tty employee.

DEpointfive0 11-16-2012 10:02 AM

:iagree:
Sir, rep point for you, if you're within 200 miles of Los Angeles, I'll buy you a beer, because that's gotta be one of the best replies:tiphat:

What I was saying about the requirements for loaners/rentals is that in the warranty details it says that Nissan will pay up to $35/day (might be $30) for up to 3 days. And if the repair takes longer than 3 days that there needs to be a special request put into Nissan Corporate.
So it IS written in stone that you can/should get a loaner/rental (at least if you own a 370Z, Maxima, GTR, not sure if Nissan's warranty is the same for all their cars)
As redline said, their loaners are always used and reserved a week in advance, so all you need to do is call your dealer in advance, and just ask.

I was going to take my car in for some "problems" it has, called on a Thursday, and the dealer said they were out of loaners and the Enterprise they do business with only has the luxury whatevers so it would cost me $70/day...
No thank you, I'll schedule an appointment another time, LOL. There is no real need to complain, I SHOULD have called earlier, I just didn't know how packed my dealer here got over the weekends.

Now, god bless the '09s for having problems, if my car had steering lock failure, had it towed and they said they don't have loaners, I get my size 15 shoes primed for putting it up someone's ***... And even if they only had the luxury thing, you gotta wheel and deal a bit, you KNOW they're going to make money no matter what, tell them that, tell them they are welcome to warranty out anything else they want to help them make money... If your dealer is smart enough... Or shady enough, they'll do it, LOL!!!
If all that fails, yep, THAT'S when I'll START getting pissed off, and my preprimed shoe starts kicking ***... I'll tell the dealer that if they don't get me a rental within an hour (I think that's reasonable) that the call to corporate will be made, shítty Internet reviews, the lot. See the response, they still don't get you a car, walk outside, smoke a cigarette, call corporate, ask for the Ombudsman (and please guys, this is for BIG jobs, oil change, brake pad change, don't get pissed)

USMCASA 11-16-2012 01:52 PM

my dealer got me a rental when they had my car for a couple of days for a tsb i had done. but.... they gave me a versa

DLSTR 11-16-2012 03:06 PM

My German dealer - loaner without asking for Z owners! Thats how it should be done.

This is just my experience, but if my repair was going to last only a few hours, I can wait or they would drive me to where I need to go (home, work...) but they wouldn't give me a loaner. Now if my car was there for a day or two that's a different story. But it also depends on how well you get along with your service rep, mine is really cool and we talk about my plans for the car and I ask him about his plans for his Titan etc... he hooks me up all the time with oil changes and free car detailing.

They have had 3 Master techs looking at it. They have been in Contact with Nissan NA and still cant figure out why it is running lean. I asked them if they cant figure out what the issue is are they going to go with a Full new long block. Nissan already approved them on it, but wanted them to try the short block route first. This is the first 370z Oil TSB issue that they have had come in. First short block swap on a 370z also. So I am pretty understanding to them having a few bugs to work out. I just told them take as long as they need, I just want it right. Just keep me in a loaner and figure it out, you know what I mean?

This is the third motor. Factory got replaced at 12.9k with a new long block, clutch, and flywheel. Second motor has now been replaced at 37k with a new short block. Both due to Oil TSB.

I havent looked into the "devaluation" of the vehicle. Is this something you have first hand experience on, or is this an idea to bring up to them?

cossie1600 11-16-2012 04:15 PM

Even if you get a loaner with Nissan, chances are that you won't get equal value. When I took my Corvette in for a month long electrical issue, I was given a Cobalt to drive for a full month. The car was so $hitty that my dog pooped it in. When I took the Lexus in, they gave me a 2013 ES. I didn't like the ES, we swapped for a new GS. My wife ended up not liking the GS, ended up getting a new RX to drive.

I feel really bad for guys who dropped $90K on a GTR and still get treated like he is driving a 15K Versa

Holy crap, all you have to do is kill another engine and you're gold, not sure about your state's Lemon Laws though.

If there are 3 master techs looking at your car, then I hope it's not the "first 370z Oil TSB"... If they got approved for a new crate motor, tell them to get the crate motor and install it, don't stand for this BS of having issues and bugs fixing the car... New crated engine should have no problems, if it does, then deal with those issues...
Engine running lean, check the MAF sensors, STILL running lean, check the fuel filters, STILL running lean, check the fuel injectors... And if it's still running lean or having issues, you call corporate again, and just level with them...
Say look, you gotta lemon this phucking thing, pay me off so I can buy another one, or do something to compensate me that I'm paying payments, paying for sports car insurance, and now I have these "mechanics" working on my car every day assembling and disassembling stuff, (to me, if that was my car, it's totaled) because I do NOT trust any group of mechanics that work on a car for a MONTH and can't figure it out... Bring one Japanese tech from Japan for all I care... But your car being in for a month, GOD KNOWS what hoses and lines have been connected and reconnected and crossed and not drained or filled properly, and if they scuffed up your car, and what bolts and things weren't tightened properly and such, it's a safety issue in my mind...
And if they won't lemon it, get the phone number, name, mailing address, and email address of the guy you're in touch with at corporate and tell him that if you're not made whole on your car, or if they continue to d!ck around that you'll sell the 370Z, NOT replace it with another, and come on this forum and give them sh!tty reviews about Nissan and the dealer. And do it, mail, email, and call the guy that you're following up, show him your posts, post all his info, post pictures of your car disassembled, record conversations, have him send you an email as to when everything will be accomplished, and have proof that he didn't hold onto his end of the bargain...

Contact Nissan's Ombudsman!!!

As for getting devaluation, when you get a crate motor Nissan is usually willing to pay $1000, a know a few members of this forum have been cut checks and my contact at corporate said they DO issue checks when a crated motor gets put in a car.

So sounds like it's Nissan's policy. For people who hasn't already known this should try to ask your service adviser for a free loaner next time you bring in your car for extended time of work. Thanks for the info DEpointfive0.

Brother, I'm just trying to help and trying to make all of our lives easier. That' why if anyone wants any help off the records, which I suggest, give me a call or text, my number is on about 20 different threads so I can help as much as I can
I am VERY new to Nissan's, since January 2011, but I have used more warranty time and money than anyone else on this forum, even if they've gotten engine replacements! LOL

My Maxima had $14k of repairs in 11 months (3 of which no one used it, so 8 months) my 370Z has been in for about $4k since January and it needs about $4-6k more "work" done to it, I just need to plan a vacation so I can use their rental)
And in that time I have dealt with probably 20-30 dealershits in 3 different states, and I have called corporate so many times I have my own guy to call now. I know the way Nissan's warranty works like the back of my hand, better than the back of my hand actually
My interest is even stated as Fuc*ing dealershits over :tiphat:

I really just want people to GET what they paid for...

EDIT: I feel like I look like a prick now... Honestly, the dealershits I trust REALLY like when I come in, they KNOW they're going to get paid every time I walk in, LOL
My dealer in Houston would fill my tank for free every time I brought my car in for service/warranty work!

And again, I treat them well too, I go in with a smile, I don't bitch and moan when they take a bit too long, I don't care, they even curbed 2 of my rims, they paid for it, why do I care? Lol
I brought my service advisor and the service manager $50 gift cards to a steakhouse when my Maxima was totaled, they overestimated replacement costs to the Insurance adjuster so he'd declare it a total loss!

cossie1600 11-16-2012 11:11 PM

( Click to show/hide )
even if they had one on the lot.

When I was shopping for the 370z last year I got no test drive either, it's not because they don't let me, it's because they don't have any..!! :icon14:

Some they do have one in the lot but it was an ordered thus it was sold.

Yup, no test drive, I still order mine cos I like the Z, I was driving a 350 at that time and I was happy thus I believe the 370 is better thus I go for it.:icon17:

As for loaner, in Toronto, they don't have a loaner or rental unless you bought the extended-warranty, then they give you a rental when the car needs a 3 hours job.

The business manager told me they claim all those expanses from Nissan Canada thus they'll get the money back, but they have to follow the policy from the HQ.

BMW Canada...??? I used to drive a BMW and the BMW dealer in here is like a slaughter... charge you arm&leg and provide shitty service, they always say they have loaner and you can reserve one, but there were so many time I have reserved one and eventually they told me they don't have any... WTF

My friend's mom has a X1 and one of the tires got a puncture not long ago... she brought it to the BMW dealer and got charged $700+ to change JUST ONE tire, yup, just ONE TIRE :icon14:  :shakes head:

The dealer claimed because it costs the most for them to order just one tire, and it is run-flat, blah blah blah... blah blah blah....

And the worst part is my friend's mom fall into that... yup, $700+ for one single tire.... from a BMW dealership in Toronto....

I got similar attitude from BMW dealer before thus I am not going back to those BMW-slaughter-house anymore.

They are stupid? That's why they don't get my business anymore and the 370 will be my last Nissan.
