Steering wheel wear

I might have missed a thread if this has already been addressed, but how is the wear on the steering wheels out there?
Has anyone brutally beaten theirs yet?
Anyone cut or scratch from keys or pant rivets?

m4a1mustang 07-04-2009 09:14 AM

I have 7k on mine and it's all fine.

I have a scratch on the cheap plastic horn cover. You would think Nissan could have upped the quality on that piece.

I wear leather driving gloves, always have...Never a problem. A Steering wheel is to expensive and costly to replace.

Mine is wrapped in Sued and Red Italian leather! All is looking good! If anybody needs there's re wrapped check out JPM coachworks in my sig below!!! the best quality interior products out there!!!

I just noticed a cut in the leather portion of my steering wheel. How much do these run? I have the 40th so I'd need the red leather stitching...unless there is some way to address the cut in the leather.

Talk to tony @ carbon fiber element he is a sponsor here.

45,000 on my 09 looks brand new

dmhenderson 08-06-2012 08:56 PM

The trick with the CFE stuff is to either use it VERY sparingly or go all out because if you half-*** it, it ends up looking weird and disjointed from what I've seen.

The interlaced red/black carbon fiber looks sexy as hell though.

my steering wheel looks brand new... :p

The leather really will not wear out for along time. The red stitching will fade after a few years but that can be fixed.

i have some wear on the underside of the wheel. i think my leg keeps brushing it when getting in.

someone on this forum got their entire steering wheel replaced under warranty due to wear. im thinking of trying to get that done before my warranty is up.

I've had mine since 09 with 36k miles now, and it looks just as good as the day I bought it.

gbrettin 08-07-2012 08:58 AM

I have a question which I was going to start a new post for but this is somewhat related. I find that my steering wheel on my '09 with 14k miles is quite slippery. It doesn't look worn at all but I find my hands slipping on it especially during turns when shifting. Anyone else have this problem and do you know of a product that can be applied to the wheel to improve grip?

Every time I drive my Z - Received a pair of hand crafted Italian Leather Gloves for Christmas, and I wear them each time I drive my Z (not a daily driver). I find it prevents the sweat in my palms from getting on the steering wheel, especially in "spirited" driving situations - and it looks cool... :driving:

ps: I do have a scratch on the bottom of the steering wheel from a pocket knife I inadvertently forgot in my pants pocket. The clip grated on the bottom of the steering wheel while I was getting out - I could have stood myself up on a wall and shot myself without the benefit of a blindfold or last cigarette (and I don't smoke..!!!):shakes head:

kenchan 08-07-2012 02:55 PM

johnz-:barf: try mild hand soap on a damp cloth towel and try to rid the sweaty greasy crap.

Use leather cleaner and treatment,,,persperation and oil from your hands is a killer on leather if not treated periodically!!
